EA Sports: Madden NFL 12 Unfazed By NFL Lockout

With the NFL lockout seemingly inevitable, some have been wondering how it might affect EA's popular Madden franchise.

Negotiations have not gone well and it appears that football fans won't even get a season this year, or if they do, it'll be shortened. Nobody knows anything concrete just yet, but things just aren't going well. Even so, EA Sports says not to worry- spokesman Bob Semsey stepped up on Twitter and delivered the following reassuring words:

"Madden NFL 12 will be released in August as always. All the NFL teams, all the NFL players, all Madden."

Although the NFLPA (Player's Association) has been "decertified," EA Sports can still use real players and real teams, and the team and league logos are licensed separately, so they don't have to be removed, either. Semsey also went on to confirm that rookie players will be included on the rosters of teams who select them in April's draft, so that's a definite plus.

Well, of course EA is going to release it. We could be wrong, but with no football on TV and one's only option being the new Madden …wouldn't sales skyrocket? Or would it work the other way; i.e., hardcore fans want to play while following the season, and if there's no season, they lose interest in playing… Guess we'll find out in August.

I hope there is a lockout.

Why would you say that!
There are millions of fans all over the world that enjoy watching their favorite teams play. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean the rest of us care what you think. We love the NFL!
Just keep your mouth shout.

by the way, the lock out started at 12am this morning… 🙁

Football is America's #1 sport. A lockout would be bad

Wouldn't really say millions of fans around the world.

Millions of fans in the US, sure. They would be pretty crushed about this lockout.

I'd say a few hundred thousand fans around the rest of the world might be a little iffed by this lockout. The rest of the millions around the world are following football (or soccer) and the FIFA world cup.

I think it is a little funny that so many Americans consider what is most popular to them must be popular around the world too. It is a little funny. This NFL lockout isn't though.

The next world cup is in 2014…
I would say there's at least 1 million people outside of the US who will be upset, seeing that's only 0.015% of the rest of the world.

I just figure that if there is no football, Americans will actually focus on things that matter.

I have high hopes for Madden 12. Madden 11 is full of so many problems and its pretty much the same game as madden 05, Which is the best of the franchise argued by many. If madden 12 fixes and perfects all the features and AI I'll be happy.

The tackling sucks! once one player makes contact the others just slide off of him and doesn't change the forward progress of the ball carrier no matter how many opponent players are in "hit" him.
It's sad when you have a football game and you can't even get the tackling down, EA!

Fight for the Ball! I hate it when the receiver doesn't try to catch the ball when it is clearly catch able and the defenders don't try to catch the ball either. The thing tht gets me the most is once the ball makes contact w/ a player the players give up even though the play is still going because the ball hit the ground!

This lock out sucks so bad. I hope everything gets put together where both sides are happy. Why can't they just meet half way.
I want to see my favorite teams play.
In the 80s the last time the lock out happened they had a 16-game season rather then the 10-game season we have now.

Doesn't bother me. I won't suffer withdrawal from no football. As for Madden this will be the 1st game in over 12 yrs that I buy.

ea might be unfazed, but i sure will be. i'm from indiana, and the superbowl is going to be in indianapolis. a mere 2 hours from where i live. somehow, i don't think i'll get the same experience firing up the latest copy of madden.

Yeah same here man, I'm from Greencastle, IN. About an hour and half drive to INDY. I was really hoping we could get the Super Bowl and when we did I was so excited, then this corporate BS is gonna get in the way of my good time.

I bet will see the faces of the commissioner and the head of the player's union on the Madden 12 cover…

With new features like:
career mode – owner or union rep? decide on lockout or union dissolve
CBA table – instead of all NFL stadiums, we get a variety of tables, paper notes and suits for our teams.
Unlocakble – you be the judge! decide who's right when it comes to TV rights, etc.

NFL jeopardy! the show where answering questions correctly could salvage the seasons…

And much more!

Honestly, this is the first I've heard of a lockout. Living in Australia, or anyone living outside the US, NFL is not that popular. In fact, no one here really cares.

We're too busy watching that crazy sport where the bowler hurls the ball down the pitch while the batsman attempts to have a crack at it to get it past leg stump in an attempt to achieve a 4 or a 6. Mmmm… please pass the crumpets.

good lad dance machine, and the real football season is starting in 2 weeks, the Australian Football League!

but on a side note i still enjoy madden, the AFL games suck because it will only be popular in Australia, therefore it wont sell very well, therefore a small budget is needed

Is there a decent cricket game for the PS3? We never would hear of it here, but if there was a decent one, I could be persuaded, I miss cricket.

Ashes 2010 was a very good cricket game for the PS3. There was only one other cricket game going against it, but mind you, the Ashes franchise, while good, cannot compare to the quality of Sports games like Madden.

If you want quality, Ricky Ponting Cricket 2007 for the PS2 and 360 was considered one of the best cricket games to date.

However, for the PS3, International Cricket 2010 isn't bad, not great, but you're better of putting your money on Ashes 2010.

But, if you want a good cricket game on the PS3, the Ashes series is the way to go. (It also called the Ashes because the middle stump of the first tournament held was burned and the ashes of this stump were placed in a small sealed trophy which Australia and England battle fiercely over to win)

no way in hell EAs dropping this years title!
you would have to send them 100M lawsuits to even get them to think about not releasing it!
sells far too well.
i just wish they would pick up the NRL license.
they do every other sport game, so why not that?
a new pool game using move would be cool too.

I'm not a huge fan of football but i do enjoy watching it. If it does happen, i'd like to see Soccer/Futbol come to the forefront. I think that would be super sweet!!! I'd rather watch a Futbol game then a Football game anyday. Bring it on MLS!!! LOL

Won't miss football in the least. Stopped watching it about 10-11 years ago. Hockey season starts around the same time, and is much more interesting if you ask me. I'd rather pay to see a full game than the 10-15 minutes or so a football game actually lasts.
