When it first arrived, it was one of the most critically acclaimed titles of the early PlayStation era. And now…it's time to snag more apes.
This time, however, we're going to have the benefit of Sony's new motion-sensing technology. As revealed at the PlayStation Blog , PlayStation Move Ape Escape is headed to North America this summer. "Fun and accessible for gamers of all ages," this new series iteration will feature 15 new levels, and your Move controller will transform into all sorts of gadgets that will let you "scoop, swat and target monkeys." Your goal- find Specter, the leader of the monkey invasion. For all you collector buffs out there, you can try to nab over 500 monkeys and keep track of your acquisitions with the "MonkeyPedia." …smells like Pokemon in here. At any rate, this one will be available on the PlayStation Network; it doesn't seem as if it'll be released in standard Blu-Ray format. But hey, the speed of digital delivery is just getting faster and faster (I downloaded that 1.8GB Dragon Age II demo in like 55 minutes) and times are changing.
So anyway, who's ready to trap some fleeing monkeys? And who remembers that very first game I mentioned above…? It was crazy fun.
Related Game(s): Ape Escape
I have actually never played an ape escape game. Somehow they have all come and gone while I was not gaming and I've never known anyone to say I needed to try one.
Ben, will you be reviewing this when it comes out, because I am always on the lookout for good move games, but I don't know anything about ape escape.
They're proper good fun.
I compel you to get this one!
lol
I'll try.
i remember playing this back on the ps1 but i dont remember much. i bet my kid would love to play this with the move.
wasnt one of these monkeys in mgs3?

They had an entire side quest deal on MGS 3 where you played Ape Escape and you had to shoot the monkeys.
While Ape Escape 3 had a whole side quest called "Mesal Gear Solid" where you played through a small, but actually quite long MGS based storyline.
Epic stuff
I so remember putting in some hours of ape catching in the first one, loved it so gonna give this one a try.
Awesome avatar (profile pic whatev) Squidbillies is my favorite! No one I know except my cousin and I watches it

Oh man, this brings back memories of the first Ape Escape on the PS1. If I recall, the first title was aimed at having people upgrade to the first Dual Shock since the use of the 2 joysticks was needed for certain gadgets. Perhaps this title will be the reason I finally get a Move peripheral.
The controls were revolutionary at the time. It was like one of the first games to take advantage of the dual shock controller. This looks interesting unfortunately I don't own a move controller!
I haven't played any since the first one. That was a fun game at that time. I loved experimenting with the gadgets coming up with different ways to capture the apes.
Yes I remember first reading about the first Ape Escape in a PS Magazine called PS Extreme back in the day. It was the first game to make full use of the analog sticks in the DS controller. Massive fun game. It's somewhere in the back of my basement closet with my old PS1. Memories.
you are 100% correct, sir. you could use the analog sticks to crawl, and sneak up on the monkeys. i hate monkeys, by the way. poo slinging, butt slapping filthy creatures.
@ Excelsior1
"butt slapping"? …lol
Ape Escape was one of my all time fav for PS1. Good times
The only memories I have of Ape Escape are from a PS1 demo of it and the MGS version of it. Hideo must have had special spot for Ape Escape.
What I remember most about the demo was the control scheme. I didn't like it at the time but in retro spec i kinda wish it had taken off and carried over into the next gen.
I remember as a kid playing the demo over and over. I really wanted that game then I liked it so much. This excites me kinda. I'll need to get the move though unless theres a non-move version.
Man this is awesome. Though ape escape 4 would be better, I will get this to hold me over. ape escape 1-3 are some of my favorite games ever.
Dude, so sad that didn't bring over AP4… Hope to import it someday.
Proud owner of the original Ape Escape and AE3. Missed on part 2 for some reason. Will try to get that some day if possible.
Really looking forward to this. I see a first person camera though, I hope that's not how it will be or I'll have to pass on it, big time.
By the way Ben, there was a monkeypedia in Ape Escape 3. Full descriptions and horoscopes too lol. Funny stuff

Yes it is 1st person. When I 1st heard about it I was excited but that exciment vanished as soon as I had seen gameplay of it last year. I like the 1st 4 Ape Escapes though. Specially part 3 that was awesome!
Could be good fun! Loved the earlier titles. We'll see what happens.
APE ESCAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
about bloody time one of my favorite ps1 games came back!
what happened to the ape escape game sony announced at E3 last year?
i just hope this is true to the series, not a cheap lazy knockoff to bring in some sales.
