Gameplay Details For Creepy PSN Exclusive Amy

The new PlayStation 3 exclusive, Amy , turned quite a few heads when it was announced last week. And now, developer VectorCell has revealed the first round of baseline info for the downloadable game.

You can find the full rundown at ElectronicTheatre but here's what jumped out at us: firstly, a "very unique use of camera setting to create emotion." We're not entirely sure what that means, but it could be a game-changer. They're also promising "unique gameplay" that apparently centers on "extensive cooperation with a character to be protected," sort of like what we did in ICO (and hopefully not what we had to do in Knights Contract ). Amy is not a fighter; she merely follows you, but due to her small stature, she can squeeze into otherwise inaccessible areas. She even has a few "mysterious gifts" that might assist you… You play as Lana and you probably won't be surprised to learn that she isn't stronger than most enemies. We'll have to use improvised weapons, or simply run or push them away; there's always the option to hide and use a bit of stealth.

Lana is actually infected with the same virus that has twisted the poor souls that now hunt her, and she'll mutate if exposed for too long. During this phase, she won't be attacked and she can even lure enemies. Those enemies, by the way, don't sound like your typical zombie foes: they can "detect sounds, heat, movements," and more. They can even "exchange information," which sounds downright creepy. Amy is set to be released on the PSN during the second quarter of this year.

Sounds really nice and unique. Nice image of the game up there. If it looks that good and is as original as it sounds this could be a really great game.

Now easily one of my most wanted for 2011. The fact he called it a spiritual successor to Flashback grabbed me by the balls.

The look of it is great too! Very moody futuristic CyberPunk-ish….like Flashback.

the sixth axis had an in depth preview of this game a while back, and i was pretty impressed by it for a psn game. i'm usually not into psn games becuase i prefer full budget games, but i liked what i saw.

one thing great about the sixth axis is all of its videos are compatible with the ps3 browser.

Yes it all "sounds" good, but we hear this kind of stuff from devs all the time. "Oh, our game features new stuff you've never seen." Then the game comes out and their "new tech" turns out to be no different than what's come before.

I don't have much faith in talk, especially for a downloadable game. I hear downloaded and it's like when you see a preview for a movie and it ends with, "straight to dvd."

Some downloadable ps3 exclusive games have been pretty nice, but they always lack the polish and finesse of a full title. I just don't have the money for an ok game.

Def agree about the developers always talking their product up. That's to be expected with any new video game, movie, etc. All downloadable games aren't "straight to DVD" quality though. Granted this game in particular sounds pretty ambitious for a PSN game, it doesn't mean it'll suck because its not a full on retail release. I'm hoping it can deliver on their promises.

I'm not saying they all suck, some straight to dvd movies are pretty good, but the majority of them suck. Good or bad though, their production values aren't as high.

That's how dl games are, production values are always lower, but sometimes you still get a great game. The majority of these downloadable games are terrible, but there are a rare few who shine.

Agree jimmy, although I do prefer full-priced titles this might be good. I have some downloadable titles that I've purchased over the psn that I'm pretty happy I got. Like pj shooter, blue toad (I'm a puzzle-mystery-freak amongst other things), super stardust hd…etc. As long as they deliver a interesting…technically competent title…why not right? I mean I am a gamer! Gotta watch out for those reviews first. Before a gamer, I'm a survivor! lol
