Has anybody noticed that most any popular video game property is on the road to becoming a feature film? There's "Uncharted," "Devil May Cry," and others…but how is the biggest franchise in history not on the big screen yet?
It's painfully obvious that Hollywood is basically out of ideas, as most any big new film project is based on a game, book, or is a remake of an older movie. That being the case, and considering the statistics that number in the billions for Call of Duty , I fail to see how a CoD movie hasn't arrived yet. Fans of most any game series usually hate to see their favorite title changed into a movie, and for good reason. However, the numbers are so gigantic, even if a small percentage of avid CoD players went to see it, the box office take would have to be absolutely gigantic. Furthermore, with so many installments out there, writers would have plenty of material with which to work.
There have been various rumors about a CoD film in the past but nothing seems to have been confirmed. And it makes absolutely no sense. Activision has been accused of putting profits above the gamer's interests, of finding any way possible to bring the Call of Duty franchise to as many consumers as possible…so how are they missing this one obvious step? Well, maybe they just don't need it. Maybe the $2 billion+ they raked in from the past two installments is more than enough, and perhaps they're afraid a CoD movie might actually be a losing proposition.
But come on. I can't believe that. Not that I'm pushing for any such movie, mind you – I probably wouldn't see it – but the situation seems confusing. Of course, now that I've written this, the announcement will be here in a week or something.
I'd rather watch Saving Private Ryan again. 🙂
HELL YEAH
or black hawk down
Oh, indeed. 🙂
hahaha, now i gotta check if those movies are on netflix.
i rather watch In The Army Now.
Movie is awesome! COD ehh also @jawknee were you on IGN with the xbots bashing the ps3 cos of Crysis 2?

0.o I think I left a comment on IGN about Crysis 2 but I think I bashed Crytek, not the PS3 though.
EDIT: Oh, now I remember. No I wasn't bashing the PS3. I copied and pasted a stupid comment by some douchey Xbot saying that the reason people shouldn't buy a PS3 was because Crytek didn't live up to their promise that the PS3 version would be on top if not equal then I posted that his comment was a example of why people shouldn't smoke crack. You would have had to decollapse(if I can make up a word for a moment) to see my reply to his stupid comment I copied and pasted. I can understand how that would have looked like I was bashing the PS3 by quoting that turd as IGN's stupid comments section hide half your comment if it's longer than 2 sentences.

I know you werent. I read it and I'm like "no way, is that jawknee?" I was bored so I was reading through them and read your comment and I was agreeing with what you put. To many xbots on IGNorant. The few who supported the PS3 like you got bashed for not "knowing".
Yup, their threads are full of tards but It's good for a laugh every now and then. Haha

im surprised there isnt a cod movie, even if it sucks, i mean if people will buy those crappy games then how would they not get tricked into the crappy movie lol
My gut says that Hollywood has learned a lesson or maybe it is the gaming industry, cause a game to movie will usually turn into a flop.

judging from game to movie adaptations throughout the years, i'd say they havent learned jack $#!+.
They don't give a crap about quality; it's all about money nowadays. Sadly the gaming industry appears to be going in the same direction as Hollywood with all these shoveware, hype-trains, series milking, yearly releases, and reboots.
screw hollywood.
nuff said.
I hope one does arrive. It would be a glorious fail and a shiny nail in the ol coffin.
lol but it wouldnt be cod is way to popular
Sssshhhh Ben… Don't give them any ideas…..
My thoughts exactly when I read the title…lol
Games and movies just dont mix. I cannot understand this mentality that many people have which involve: anything that is considered great, should be a movie. Why?
If the original version of a story is in a book, leave it as a book, if it is a game, leave it as a game. Whatever is not in its original version, is not going to be as good as the original version. (if that makes sense)
I can think of very few successful movies that were first books such as harry potter and the lord of the rings.
Books and movies do have a slight connection but gaming and movies are just, not awesome.
While I agree that the original source material is always better, I still think a movie that sticks to the game story and characters (and so far none of them ever have) would be great. It simply CAN'T be impossible to translate greatness into other greatness. Hollyweird has just gotten so retarded and watered down that they can't make the right connections.
Good question. It's not like they would even need to follow the story of a CoD installment. A generic war movie with the CoD title would go gangbusters at the box office. Okay, maybe not, but it would still work better than a crime family for Uncharted, or Dante killing demons to avenge the death of his mother, and not simply because he's a bad-a$$ demon hunter for the lulz and cash.
'Why is it always the good ones?'
Peace.
Speaking of: Please, for the love of CoD, get rid of that backdrop! No seriously, are you guys trying to distract me from thinking about KZ3 or something?
eh, cant be any worse then behind enemy lines.
😉
i liked that 🙁
I believe its pretty simple. movies these days arent good enough to pull people away from videogames, especially games like uncharted 2. i'd like to see them pull those COD players from the game for a movie. hell, cod players on 360 cant even be distracted away from the game unless it has halo in the title.
not to mention that most of this COD players dont even care about the campaign/story mode. they go straight to multiplayer. maybe they should just make a movie that plays like the multiplayer aspect of the game. you know, the movie screen divided into a few screens each with different perspectives and moving like a squad. make it a standard first person view for each part of the screen like doom was. all they need to do is have endless people shooting at the squad, explosions everywhere, and the plot of "go from point A to point B". i'm not saying it will be good but its right down activisions alley.
That's what I was thinking. I think it might be difficult making a movie about multiplayer. If they do though it should be a comedy.
capitalism is ruining movies. jk

I blame space nazis.
Ruining? Long since ruined. So long in fact, that who cares for the reasons.
Trolls are ruining this thread.
jk. 😉
Best to drop that capitalistic reasoning… no real point to it… break your piggy bank and go and buy a Mars bar…

hehehe a movie about CoD, if there were to be such thing people that would go watch it would be like WTF? call of duty has a story???, you know because 99.999999 just play MP…
What would be funny is that since there's a lot of kids that play it despite the rating, they would have to make the movie PG13. That's the kiss of death for any movie, though it does make those ever important ticket sales possibly higher.
Speaking of game to movie adaptations, thank god they canned BioShock. Releasing a movie of that would sting me as a fan of the great games.
If done by the right people with the right actors that could have been a good videogame adaptation.
Yeah, true fella. The realisation of Rapture & the blood curdling commentary of Andrew Ryan could be executed well if they really put thought into it but sadly nine times out of ten the result just never works out the way people & the fans anticipate it.
If the film was made & done well, i'd lap it up day one but with the recent history of these tie-ins doesn't give me much confidence in them unfortunately.

What will set this movie apart from all of the other army movies, the name?
And if they did make it, will they give the main character perks & abilities like: Commando Pro, Cold Blooded Pro and Sligh of Hands Pro lol
don't give kotick any ideas…remember when he was talking about the quakity of starcraft 2 cgi footage, and imagined people would come to theatres to see it.
there a lot of poular games that haven't been made into movies. halo and metal gear solid come to mind.
People don't play CoD for the story….
They play it for the carnage – and… to help them take out their frustrations after using Facebook and Twitter 🙂

i play cod4 and mw2 for the story i actually liked it with its big movie style set peices and events and think it is good blockbuster material
Wait wait, you can make a movie outta CoD?
They have a preview out for it, mind you the special effects for it is kind of lame.
Actually Clamedeus, that was a fan-made movie. To the best of my knowledge, there are no plans, at this time, to adapt CoD to the silver screen.
I don't think movie fans are ready for a yearly installment of the same crap over and over.
CoD moviehouse:
People go in, put on blindfolds and then escorted inside.
*Blindfolds open*
Surprise surprise, YOU'RE ONE THE MOVIE. There are guns and grenades everywhere. It's the ultimate free-for-all. Then, after the last blood spills, curtains. That's all folks for CoD: The Movie part 1.
Tomorrow–part 2: the setting will be "slightly" changed, and the gun paints will be added.
Up until CoD: The Movie nth….
well if this happens, the Twitchers of this generation (perhaps majority XBOTs) population will decrease, so I may be supportive.. LOL :p
Wheres the uncharted movie? and the MGS movie? And the heavy rain movie?
They've all been announced, Uncharted is the apparently the furthest along, but Heavy Rain has a writer attached and MGS has been in development hell for years. It's better not to ask for them.
That's all we need, then we could have an installment of COD every 6 months instead of every year…yippee….
There are some games that would absolutely work as movies and do very well. Half-Life, Bioshock, inFAMOUS, Killzone, Assassins Creed, Metal Gear Solid, Mass Effect, Halo and Dead Space. I am sure there are others but that's all I could think of right now. If the right people get behind these projects like a Zemeckis or Speilberg they would shine and buck the trend. It can happen and will happen, it's just got to be done right and with more care than a normal movie. Once one comes out and shines others will follow!
