SCEA Cancels GT Academy Round 2 Due To Cheaters

Hey! You. Yeah, you. The one who thinks you can cheat and get away with it… Okay, you got away with it but you won't get away with it again .

The Gran Turismo Driving Academy is supposed to be all about precision driving, but we've been hearing reports of cheaters in Round 2 of the US GT Academy. Participants have complained about cheaters cutting corners and doing a bit of "wall-banging" on the Madrid and Rome courses. But instead of trying to figure out who did what and when, SCEA has decided to simply cancel Round 2 . Everyone involved will just move on to Round 3, which has been delayed; it was supposed to start on February 14 but we're awaiting the next GT5 update. This update will "introduce more sophisticated corner-cutting and wall-banging detection mechanisms to prevent this type of inappropriate driving." It's probably the best course of action at this point.

In our estimation, Madrid should never have been used, anyway; that thing is ridiculous and not really one of our favorites. Let's take a turn on Nurburgring…won't really have to worry about "wall-banging" or cutting corners there; only fine driving will produce good times.

Find that to be funny. They should just majorly slow down people when they try to cut corners, or just make the corner cutters fail the course and try again…like how they did with the x1 challenge.

Honestly, the GT community as a whole disgusts me.

Prior to the release the forums over at GTPlanet were littered with speculations, complaints and vibe of entitlement. "We waited for 5 years, so we are due!!" was the cry of some.

After the release, the topics and posts may of changed, but the mindset as a whole stayed the same. People are complaining about everything under the sun. Now mind you, some of it's warranted, for GT5 has issues, but just this morning, someone posted a thread about GT5's false advertising. Laughable!!

Let us fast forward 2-3 months down the road. People are cheating. Yes, I understand that cheating and video games in nothing new, but this time, it actually frustrates me.

I missed the cut for Round 2 by around a 100 or so places. How many people were cheating that had faster times then I did? How many seconds could I have gained if I cut corners? These are the questions that I pose!!

I didn't participate in the GT academy, but I completely agree with you about the GTPlanet "community", where most of the posts are about how the game, PD and Kaz sucks…

The entitlement mentality of this generation is one of the most destructive forces within our society. So many believe that they are entitled to things without having to put any effort into it. When they don't get what they want, that entitlement leads people to think that they are therefore entitled to act out in some fashion because they're entitled to their anger and hurt.

I check GTPlanet occasionally, the guys there sound like a mixture of xbots & Turn10 employees.

daus26

RadioHeader, I swear it seems like that at times. There are a couple or so member that just seems like it. Seriously though, a lot of people there even act like lawyers. Every flaw, even the tiniest bit are made into a big deal.

Now, don't get me wrong. I don't like a lot of the whiners there, but there are a few dedicated members there that gets news fast, and that's something I appreciate. I guess with a community that big, it's imminent that there are gonna be some annoying bunch of whiners as well.

I agree with Daus that GTPlanet is THE place for Gran Turismo info, some members there are insanely dedicated to the game. But those whiners are really getting on my nerves lately…

maxpontiac

That's exactly my point. In the first round, people were using the E-brake to gain faster times. That won't happen in the real world, but alas, I believe that PD seriously underestimated the gaming community's drive to win at all costs!

Shameful!!

daus26
daus26

Which track did they use the e-brake on? E-brakes would always make me slower.

There are top ten replays that they will review. I don't think they're gonna declare anyone a winner if they see a replay in which the player uses unfair advantages.

maxpontiac

I read it one of the "discussions" on GTPlanet.

I believe they should start over, with full mechanical damage and penalty systems in place.

daus26
daus26

Wait.. yeah! Why can't they just do that? Get some mechanical damage into it to prevent the wall bangers from doing it again.

Actually, if the penalty was really strict like it should be, they wouldn't need it, but they should just do mechanical damage anyway. I don't see why not.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

I don't know why, but this has the smell of inevitability about it. As far as I can remember, none of my times included cut corners or wall banging, and who has time to use the e-brake in a turn? About the worst you could accuse me of is hugging the rumblestrip on the inside of the corner on the odd occasion when I manage to get my approach just right. I can't remember how far I was from the cut, but it wasn't too far.

It's a shame that some people just can't stop themselves from cheating, but that is apparently the way of the gaming world now. Thank goodness I decided a long time ago that it was a 'world' I wanted to opt out of.

@Max,

No worries, I was meaning that I opted out of that weird gaming world where people believe that the ends justify the means. I just can't be bothered with cheaters or exploiters who don't play fair and get annoyed if you call them on it. It's one of the reasons I do so little online gaming.

@Killa,

I added Aeris to the avatar in between Sophitia and KOS-MOS.

I don't have the game but if they don't want people doing certain things can't they just make them undoable?

Killa Tequilla
Killa Tequilla

Yea. Developers are trying. Very hard. But people cheat developers's games anyway. Like all Call of Dutys'. There are more cheaters than there are developers. So developers are tryng to make things undoable, but there's always a way.

I don't even know what's going on with the CoD games, it's like they haven't learned anything since the Cod4 cheaters.

Killa Tequilla

Well every game has cheaters. It's just a matter of time. People always find a way. Personally I don't blame Sony for giving us so many updates with no new features in a long time due to hackers and cheaters. Why do cheaters do what it is they do in the first place? Specially in CoD… have you seen youtube? There is CoD commentaries everywhere and quite often in the home page. They do it for that recognition or that #1 spot.

LMAO…they ought to have a COD Academy going on. Winner of the game automatically gets recruited into the army.

Inevitably a cheater would win. But don't worry I hear that you can use aimbot in real life, so he/she should really be helpful.

AND YES AIMBOT DOES EXIST…how does this guy do it?

Quick question, and no I'm not really complaining, more just wondering.

Can you fully adjust all the gear ratios yet? Has there been a patch that addresses this yet, or any word on if there will be one?

Thanks in advance

If you are talking about the Transmission, then no. You can only set the top speed.

True, it just baffles me why you can't do it when the info button pretty much states that you can, you just shouldn't if you don't know what you are doing.

I wonder if it was just something that slipped through in QA.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

@Coverton
The game manual and help text indicates that you should be able to customize the ratios, so it's a feature that should be there.

Whatever the reasons for it's removal it very much hurts the customization of vehicles not having the ability to set custom ratios.

maxpontiac

Agreed gents. The transmission issue is a huge deal right now. I hopeful that the mid-February update fixes this.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

Funnily enough, the lack of ability to customize the transmission fully is a real problem for me, one of my favorite things to do in GT4 is to take a car that shouldn't be capable of winning a particular race and setting it up just right to match my driving style and the course so that I can take the win. Without that ability I get stuck with the game's top speed control which I personally find to be misleading anyway.

DemonNeno

@ Highlander – This is too true, man. The whole top speed estimation is so far off, I don't even pay attention to it. I spend more time trying to iron out the unbalanced results I generally get from making adjustments.

I'm still confused as to why this customization isn't entirely allowed, to best my frustrations. If it's for the sake of competition, well then don't allow certain modifications… Scratch that, I'd be pissed about that too! 🙂

coverton341

It honestly is a huge thing for me too. Every GT that I have ever played I have had a binder full of gear ratios for cars for given tracks that work the best for me.

It was always a large part of my enjoyment, finding that perfect set of ratios to get the very best time on any given track with any of my favourite cars.

Sadly, I have kind of been neglecting the game because I can't set the ratios. I'm not saying I dislike it, I just guess I don't enjoy it as much as past entries because of it.

Coverton,

You and I are on the same page completely on this one. I hate to say that it spoils it for me, but as I got to the higher races, it did spoil it a bit. It's not so much that Idislike playing it because of the lack, it's more that the irritation with that lack lets other games grab my attention. Plus I'm in more of a JRPG mood right now.

I guess we call it "cheating" for no other reason than the lack of a better word. The software let's you bounce off of walls to take corners faster. Back in the day we used to call it a "trick." You don't learn the trick, you get left in the dust. Doesn't give you the right to go calling smarter players cheaters.

Right…this is poor game design. Why lets us do that if you want precision driving. Punish us like in other racers. Also leveling up past level 25 or so is annoyingly hard…stupid.

TheHighlander

I'd love to know how people are bouncing off the walls to take corners faster. Anytime I slam the wall because I hit the breaks too late and have to go round a corner too quickly, my time is voided.

In competition, it's cheating.

Plus, as Highlander stated, most of the time, you get disqualified.

I don't participate in GT academy, but when the seasonal events hit and forced a certain tire restriction and hp limit, I found it incredibly hard just to place second or third. Then I realized I could cut corners and jesus, I was in first the lap before the finish line. Is that cheating? Yes, but that early seasonal set up was bogus and unfair if anything forcing you to play with a certain car while the competition had way better cars. And forget the driving perfect bullish, because I drove a perfect as possible and 2 was always the highest.

But they fixed the limitations for seasonal events, but now I come overpowered sometimes and now that big lingering issue with GT5 appears…lackluster competition. This is one reason why I haven't played it in a while…it will most likely be shelved by March along with most games…ish is getting serious now for me.

Why do some of GT5's fan base need their collective hand's held?

GT5's difficulty is up to the player due to the challenging nature of this game type.

Auntie Phanboi

So the "Real Driving Simulator", that the average game reviewer isn't qualified to review, allows you to bang your car into walls to pick up speed? How charming.

You would think some damage modeling would of taken care of that problem.

As obvious as it is with your flame bait-troll type post….

GT5 has damage modeling online and in practice mode. It can cripple your car until you make it to the pits.

PD needs to implement it to the TT, I can't argue that.
