No matter what, you just can't keep the good talent down. Regardless of where they might end up, they'll produce something special; that's a given. We brought you the story of ex-Clover members founding a new development studio called Seeds, and now, we find out what those other former Clover members are doing.
Capcom's vice-president of marketing, Charles Bellfield, recently spoke with Gamasutra about a variety of topics, including the surprising popularity (in the U.S.) of their Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney franchise and the current situation of certain ex-Clovers. As it turns out, while three did indeed leave to create Seeds, several have simply moved to other teams within Capcom…and they're working on at least one blockbuster.
"…some of the team that worked on Clover titles are now helping Takeuchi-san on
, helping Inafune-san on a new title for the Wii, so I think it's very much the skill set still stays in the company when those individuals stay and, unfortunately, three individuals chose to leave."
Obviously, the aforementioned three are Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya, and Atsushi Inaba, who are now Seed members. But make no mistake: after its liquidation, Clover didn't leave as one entire group to form a new development house; Capcom still retains some of that now-fragmented talent. And if they're working on the likes of RE 5 and this mystery Wii title, we're plenty happy about that.
