Ben-DutkaThe PlayStation Suite will allow the world of PlayStation content to appear on Android mobile devices, and it'll all start with original PS1 classics. Sony also is setting up a "neutral development environment" for generating new Suite games and content, and they'll start a logo licensing program called PlayStation Certified for hardware.
In a roundtable session after last week's PlayStation Meeting, SCE CEO Kaz Hirai said the Suite won't end with Android devices. As reported by Andriasang , Hirai said they "have a completely open stance. With carriers and with hand set makers." The bottom line is that Sony wants to bring their PlayStation brand to as many different people as possible. Added Hirai:
"There are a variety of OSes. But we're focusing first on Android. There's also Windows, iOS and so forth, but we don't have the resources to make it compatible with everything from the start."
As far as Android units go, Sony will target the smartphones first, and up next are the tablets. At this point, it all depends on "user adoption," and they aren't ruling out PSS on platforms like Google TV. Sony will have a review process for Suite software and thanks to this QA, "Sony hopes to establish an ecosystem that runs on Sony certified hardware, differentiating PlayStation Suite from the anything-goes PC world." Yeah, PlayStation is gonna be everywhere .

The sooner, the better. All I want to know is what Android phones support it.
Any Android phone that's rockin Android 2.3…which is only the Nexus S at the moment. Rumor has it that Motorola's about to roll out a 2.3 update for the Droid X (which means the Droid 2's probably going to get it as well) which also leads me to believe that when my Droid Bionic comes out, it should be Gingerbread ready as well! I'm looking at you Motorola!
In that case, I'm betting that my old skool, original model Droid will be left explaining to the Imperial Troopers why it's not the Droid they're looking for.
I think it's a smart move. You have to get with the times and realize that you're not the only platform that people use. Spreading yourself around with software is what it takes these days.
This is absolutely phenomonal, this will bring unparalleled brand recognition. Open up who knows what new relationships with developers with this burgeoning scene and ultimately bring people over to the big platforms of ps3 and psp aswell as bring playstation to uncharted audiences.
I truely didn't even realise the significance of this announcement until I watched the footage of Kaz talking about this cross platform development, this is the most open development stance Sony has taken yet. Open is good and it's always been a reason, apart from great hardware and games that I've been a follower and used playstation consoles and ultimately respected the company.
Yeah, going cross platform is something I used to throw out there for shock value wondering what would happen if Sony opened the doors to licensing PS1 games to other platforms. Now they're doing it. I wonder whether Microsoft can swallow their pride long enough to support this on XBL? ROTFLMAO!
Seriously though, I have often wondered why Nintendo does do this with it's incredible catalog of games. Then we could potentially play those classics on anything from a phone to an NGP or even a PS3. That would be a great next step moving away from the really tight lock in. I mean, I don't mind Sony and Nintendo, and even Microsoft limiting their cross platform play on emulation to games a couple of generations old. No one expects Sony to license their exclusive PS3 titles as cross platform games. But PS1 titles can definitely appear elsewhere courtesy of a Sony licensed emulation platform. Nintendo could do this with everything from the N64 backwards. There is a gold mine there for those that want ti mine it.
So I'm betting that MS will now try & counter this by trying to get their filthy lil "Micro-Screwed" logo out on everything too.

wheres the old looney tunes games, apocalypse, the old james bond games, mission impossible.
only reason i had a PSP 3000 was so i could install CFW to play ps1 games!
there were so many fantastic ps1 games out there, but sony is just ignoring them!
for the love of god sony, stop your love affair with disney and release a decent game onto the store!
i swear to god if they release another disney game on there im going to scream!
I've got about 25+ PS1 games from the PSN now… all on various memory cards for my PSP…
none of them are Disney Interactive titles…
And I love Bugs like nobodies business, but I fail to see how WB is any better than DI…
WB games are WAY better than Disney games!

by far the 2 best ps1 games ever released!
wish they would add all the bond games too, especially tomorrow never dies!
or even the mission impossible game was really good!

well, that doesn't make me feel too left out! i really hope Sony can work something with Apple and release it on the iOS's. that would REALLY open up their market.
