Many gamers who enjoy the single-player experience often condemn the FPS genre for skimping on the story and focusing too heavily on the multiplayer.
But while Killzone 3 will boast quite the robust multiplayer component (did you play that beta?), we know it'll have a huge emphasis on the engaging plot. We caught a glimpse of that Hollywood-style presentation in the CES Trailer , and that was more than enough to convince us it'll be an emotional, roller-coaster ride. Now, several readers have pointed us in the direction of the British Board of Film Classification; it appears KZ3 will boast no less than 70 minutes of cut-scenes , which is nearly three times more than we had in KZ2! Of course, the campaign should be a good 10 hours in length so it's not like it'll be more movie than game, and it's nice to see such effort put into the storytelling aspect of a shooter. It makes it feel more like Half-Life than Call of Duty and really adds a semblance of life and flavor to the adventure.
February 22 isn't too far off now, and you'll have to make time, 'cuz January's lineup is pretty impressive.

Uh, oh…this is sure to bring out the people who complained MGS4 was "all cutscenes." 😉
Nice to see a FPS finally taking the story element of the game seriously.
Ya, Kojima would laugh at 70 minutes of cut-scenes.
So, the cut scenes in KZ3 will last longer then the story-mode in COD BO.
I love me some SP action. I am waiting the day when I get my hands on the Shiny new box that reads KillZone 3 on it.
ha ha ha insult Black Ops' campaign (which was actually quite good) aren't you clever?
Jawk, hoping for a superlative experience with KZ3… and those HD cut scenes in 3D… should be quite an adventure I would say…
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
Indeed. 🙂
Translation – 60 minutes more then the average Xbox Live player would watch.
@dkmrules
While better than MW2's story, Black Ops' story really wasn't that fantastic. It really wasn't. There was next to no dialogue. Honestly… how many people actually CARED about Mason? I barely knew him, let alone felt like I was him. It was SO obvious what was going on. It was a forced twist; not a natural one.
Also, it was super short. Ever tried it on the easiest setting? Under 2 hours easy. And on veteran?? All the AI did was cheat. Once you figured out how to manipulate the programming, even veteran was easy. The AI NEVER adjusts to what you do. And the game never forces you to be resourceful. The campaign was weak-sauce.
I platinum'd it within a couple weeks in 14 hours of play time. At least MW2's trophies were challenging.

Jawknee,
You mean all those little pansy-a$$ed whimpering crybabies that wouldn't know a masterpiece if they were b*tch slapped by Mona Lisa!
Yeah, let them all keep crying in all their "Halo" tears.

Halo and Half Life are my two fav FPS games. Maybe it does, in part, have something to do with story. I'm really excited for KZ3, I think it's gonna be the full package deal. I also suspect it's going to be an easy victory for FPS goty.
Well don't count on it too soon, not only do we got many FPS this year coming, we also got many GREAT FPS coming.
Nice to see a lot of work put into this.
But I'm a bit disappointed that there's no goggle to come with the Collector's Edition, seems like that rumour was bogus.
Would be sweet if they gave you a real Helghast helmet you could wear.
I never heard any thing about a goggle. Just the helmet, figurine, and other miscellaneous collectors edition stuff.
Yea, the collector's edition helmet is just a box, not wearable. Or is it? I'm not sure.

No, it will be like the Halo 3 helmet. The game and art book will be held inside the helmet.
This is very encouraging to hear. I've read that Guerilla is getting away with the cheesiness in KZ2's story/dialog, which I'm glad to hear. With so many fps games skimping on story and single player campaigns I'm excited to hear KZ3 is keeping with the full presentation. It sounds like we have a kick ass game coming our way.
And I can't wait for my Helghast helmet!
Glad to hear someone else thought that the KZ2 story was lacking/lame. Hopefully KZ3 will have a better more engaging story.
The gen where fps had more cut scenes than the Final Fantasy.
It's like the freakin bizzaro gaming gen.
Oh I don't know. Seemed like there was a cut scene whether in game or pre-rendered every 15 feet in FFXIII.
I think Killzone and Resistance are the only shooters people buy for the story. They're just so well done. I'd have liked the online a lot more in Killzone 2 if people would have actually died when you shot them with anything besides a shotgun or a rocket launcher. Resistance doesnt have that problem because most of the weapons are sci fi, but Killzone used futuristic military rifles and stuff that shoots normal bullets without the effects of said bullets being realistic. I didn't get in the KZ3 beta so I dont know if anything's changed either way it's still a D1P it's f***ing Killzone.
I had no problem with the weapons in KZ2. If anything, I thought the shotgun was bum cakes
Only 70 min? HAH
(goes to get popcorn for MGS4 cutscene)
LOL!
is that all?
just seems really small, especially for a 10+ hour game.
oh well, im not exactly expecting KZ3 to be singularity so i guess it can only go up from here.
I'm usually more interested in different branches of storylines rather than linear SP, I hope that is included, but I doubt it. Whenever I'm on singleplayer I can close my eyes and see my rank dropping, then I switch over to MP. Red ribbon week 1 boyeee!
70 minutes worth of cut-scenes? That 1hr and 10 minutes of gameplay taken a from the gamer and they want want us to pay $60? Thankfully I'm one of those gamers who is smart enough to buy used.
But not smart enough to use the reply button?
How is that taken away from the gamer? It adds to the experience and gives us more reason to play the game than 'OH LOOK! Bad guy.' *BANG*. How can you call context a bad thing?
I think Uncharted 2 was close to that, and it's arguably the greatest game this gen.
In my book, the best ever.
Don't get that..I think I'm spoiled by MGS..70 minutes just doesn't seem like enough..but if it's more then the amount in KZ2 then it is a good addition.
@A2K78
LOL! you MUST have forgotten your /sarc/ tags. It's the only way your post has any credibility.
i dunno.
gg when we said change the character dialogue, we didn't mean get rid of the old voice actors altogether.
sev sounds gay now
What's wrong with gay people?
cut scenes are good. That's how you draw the player into the characters and plotline, add emotion for the story, get inside people's heads. Imagine Uncharted without Drake's moments of levity.
Oh I don't know…some seem to think the game developer is doing it to rip us off and deprive us of an extra 70 minutes of much needed game play. Oh boy, maybe games shouldn't have stories at all!
/
On a serious note…I agree with you. 🙂
Hey if we wanted stories we could read a book, well a picture book anyway. Games are for mashing buttons, or maybe just holding the trigger button and watching flashing lights and listening to bang bang sounds. That's what games are supposed to be.
At least some people seem to think so.
"It's like the freakin bizzaro gaming gen."
Its nothing bizzaro, but a clear demonstration that developers are paying less and less attension to gameplay and more attension to storylines. When it come that $60 just isn't worth it and as a result I buy used.
No, you buy used because you're cheap.
…haha…
If it ain't gamers having no attention span to play fighting games, it's devs having no attention spans for gameplay.
I've come to the conclusion that you also hate the word "attention," by punching it in its consenantal scrotal area and putting an "S" in it.
Makes no sense..you realize this is a team that put out arguably the best FPS in Killzone 2. Now you're saying even though they've improved everything that they are gimping us with 70 minute cut scenes. Sorry makes no sense..seems like you're just too cheap to buy new games man. It is what it is though
"Its nothing bizzaro, but a clear demonstration that developers are paying less and less attension to gameplay and more attension to storylines."
Well, congrats. You just made the single most ridiculous comment I've read in a while.
i've never really understood why people bag out the price of purchasing games brand new. Here in Australia we have to buy some games brand new for $119.95 but even still i think its worth it.
Heavy Rain was one of those for me. Worth every cent.
And I believe that works out to US$119.95 too doesn't it.
Goodness…feel sorry for ya man..that's taxation at it's finest
Same here in Uruguay dude…
What did Uncharted 2 have? About 90? Of course, the story in this will be more serious, and by the looks of it, a great deal will be dedicated to getting across the Helghast point of view. I do hope that it features some exposition of Sev's thoughts on what is happening, and has some light scenes, rather than constantly focussing on action, and combat.
Yeah, stuff my earlier reservations about waiting for this one. FPSes aren't really in my bag of tricks, but this is looking and sounding leagues better than KZ2. Bring it on Guerilla, and bring it home.
Peace.
i did a little celebration… this just gets better and better 😀
Excellent news. I was planning on getting this just to have a great shooter with move. I'm not a big shooter fan, but if I'm going to play one I want to use move and this seems like the game to play, especially since it will have an actual story to it.
