Gran Turismo 5 was co-holder of our illustrious 2010 Game of the Year Award (along with Heavy Rain ), and we issued a full editorial explaining that decision .
So if you have yet to try one of the most ambitious, unbelievably in-depth experiences of the generation, we may have tickled your buying bone. Or, if you've been playing it with a standard controller, you heard us say that GT5 simply isn't a driving simulator without a wheel…and you sorta felt guilty. But wheels are expensive, right? And you just dropped a whole lot of cash during the holidays, huh? Well, Buy.com has the answer: you can purchase the Logitech Driving Force GT Wheel (essentially, the official GT5 wheel) for the low low price of $89.99 ! The wheel usually costs $149.99 in most retail stores but with this big discount and free shipping, you can slash about 40% off the price tag, which means you can experience the new GT the way it was meant to be experienced. Remember, there's no knowing how many they have in stock; when all the wheels are gone, so is this deal.
Polyphony went to all that effort to create the most realistic racing simulator out there. The least you could do is play along. …no, seriously. Get a wheel.

No seriously, please stop.
I'm sorry. If it's official then go for it. By the way Ben (i said i was sorry), was this sold at gamestop (or what i would like to call xbox 1st, ps3 2nd or 3rd shop)? Are they literally sold at best buy?
Take care.

LoL. is this guy trollin or he's just dumb?
Nice deal. I think TES37 said he got his for about the same price. I need one but money is a little tight at the moment.
I still my wheel from GT4. Problem is, I don't have a base for it.
Sitting on the couch and using a TV tray does not work!!
Lol! I can imagine.
Do one of you know a good wheel that's affordable, or it this wheel worth looking at?
I have heard good things about this wheel. I really want that new Thrustmaster one but as I said, $599 is a lot! haha
This wheel is great, considering the price gap from any other units. I do wish it had a clutch pedal, but I just tell myself everything has an f1 shiftronic paddle shifter setup.. 🙂 feedback is great, unit makes probably a bit more than moderate noise.. Overall, the price its amazing.
The wheel does have a minor deadzone in regards to the force feedback. It's generally not notciable.. You really can't go wrong! I personally love the quick tuning controls, especially when something in the setup is just pissing me off!

@maxpontiac
I use a tv tray and my computer chair for my wheel and it actually works pretty good except when I get loose and throw the wheel around to get straight and the tv tray comes with it.
I bought an Xelerator wheel stand to hold mine. I paid $99 for it at Amazon. I'd try to describe it to you but it would be easier to search for it and see for yourself.
The Logitech wheel is awesome, but I did feel like an idiot for the first 15 to 20 minutes before I got a handle on things. Now, I don't want to play without it.
I registered just to offer my 2 cents on this wheel and a stand. Please dont waste your money and time on the expensive stands that are over $120 and wont ship until Feb; just go to your home depot or www and pick up this stand for $29. RIDGID Flip Top Portable Work Support Model # AC9934 Internet # 100618242
Store SKU # 379422. This stand works perfectly and folds completely flat for easy storage… AND its only $29!
As for the wheel I think it is a great deal at this price; just picked up one. The only drawback I can see is that it is not wireless and needs a USB connection which is kind of short (so I also stopped by Frys to pick up a USB extension).
The wheel is improving my lap times and improving my license test medals from bronze to gold by allowing me to partially break and accelerate. Its helped me a ton. enjoy…
You are probably going to see this go on sale a lot since the new wheel that GT5 will endorse comes out in the spring.
I have this wheel, but the new one actually has a clutch pedal and boasts more responsiveness.
Are you talking about that $599 wheel from Thrustmaster?
Sweet looking wheel but $599 is a lot.
$599 is not a lot, it's insane!
ooooh, it looks sweet though. If it came with a stick shift and not just paddle shifters, I'd consider saving for it.
Does having a wheel really make a difference? I'm thinking yes but never bought one. I find it sometimes hard cornering with a thumb on an analog stick. I'm sure us controller people are at a disadvantage when racing against wheel users online.
I think it does. I have never tried it but TES and others on my PSN list have said the wheel improved their game. I feel like I am doing fine with a Duelshock 3 but I suspect a wheel might help me complete some of the harder challenges.
Thanks Jawknee
Yes it does make a difference!
But, there always is a but… You have to get used to it.
I always played with a controller and used the little car in front of me. With a wheel, in my opinion, it is stupid to have a little car in front of you. So I had to really learn to drive bumpercamera, it took some time and a lot of frustration because my times were slower then with a controller. Now it is changed, my times with a wheel become much faster.
I have a DFGT and i love it. For $90 you cannot go wrong. It doesnt have a clutch pedal and only sequential shifting, but its awesome.
There is no comparison to playing with a DS3. You can feel every bump in the road. You can instantly tell when your front tires are breaking free and you get that "oh sh!t" feeling when the wheel doesnt resist you at all and you stomp the brakes hoping to get your front tires to grip before you hit the wall.
You can feel the curb gently nudge you back onto the road when you get a little too close.
If you like racing games at all you should buy this. The DFGT works on PC as well, so you can use it with GTR Evolution and whatnot.
Ya if using a manual transmission scares you at all then this is the wheel for you. Its like driving an auto stick but it has great response.
You probably don't mean it literally, but just in case, you definitely don't feel every bump in the road. However, force feedback is very decent.
Paste2TheNuggs:
I like using the paddle shifters, so i'm always shifting sequential anyway. I can drive stick just fine in real life, and i love it, but paddle shifters are just fun.
daus26:
Compared to a DS3, it feels that way. Yeah, its not 100% perfect, but with a DS3 you'll never feel a bump yank your wheel while you fight to maintain control. It feels like a completely different game with a good wheel.
NoSmokingBandit is right, you can feel every bump in the road. At least I do anyway. I feel an up and down jarring motion in my wheel as well as force feedback in the steering from left to right.
This post could not have come at a better time for my endorsement. You see I just bought the Driving Force GT wheel at BestBuy for $100 Boxing week sale, and GT5 for $40 (with 2 other games) at another store, boxing week, all with gift certificates.
I have since tuned a Honda s2000 to perfection, reached level 10 in a matter of hours, and any and all negative opinions of GT5 Prologue using a standard controller, are out the window.
GT5 is amazing. With a wheel.
So what do you put it on? I have a coffee table like I'm sure we all do, but I can't imagine being hunched over it driving with a wheel. But you make having a wheel sound pretty enticing. My thumb gets shaky after a while and make bad mistakes with the dual shock.
I found an old side table which is the exact width of the armchair I sit in. The table is about 23 inches high and 12 inches deep. It's high enough that my legs pass through underneath to the pedals that sit on the floor on opposite side. So chair, table with wheel, pedals and tv. It's a low-fi solution to be sure, but it works really well.
If you're really into racing check out http://www.wheelstandpro.com/
Damn even 90 is a lot of money, what do you people do with these things? Where do ya put em when you are in your chair or on your couch or whatever?
Several retail sell stands for it, but a lot of people custom built their own or just clamp it to their tables if its not too thick for the clamps. I personally just clamp it to my wooden coffee table, sit on my game chair an play on. The wheel really adds to the experience so it's worth the money, especially 90 bucks.
$90 is worth it if you play tons of racing games. I use my DFGT in GTR-Evolution, NFS Shift, DiRT, etc. Well worth the investment for me.
sad this item is only available at the USA with no ability to ship world world wide , I'm still using the dualshock controller but it has no chance to deliver the same accuracy and enjoyable experience as this wheel would do
If anyone is planning to gold the Sebastien Vettel Challenge, this really helps. No joke. Granted it still took me hours, but I fared way better than I did with the controller.
This is very tempting but I've got too many titles on my current (and future) backlog that I have to start setting time aside for. That plus I unfortunately realized the effort for a platinum in GT5; most likely I'll end up will all but 1 Gold Trophy (getting all golds in License and Special Events) thus negating my platinum. *le sigh
This wheel makes a huge difference. It just makes an incredible game all the more immersive. I would say that if GT5 is one of you favorite games, and you can afford it, its worth it.
It is a bit of a challenge setting it up but if you're mildly resourceful you'll be able to figure out a solution to mount the wheel ergonomically. I knocked out the drawers out of a small mdf dresser and locked it to the top, with the pedals underneath, its kind of ugly but it works.
I made a table out of an old bass cabinet 😀 The speakers needed a new home and my DFGT has a nice tolex covered stand.
Does someone know if the price of $89.99 is a mail-in-rebate??? or is it normal buy??
I picked this up at costco for 30 bucks. Its not the best wheel I know, but it beats the ds3 imo.

Is it compatible with ps3?? and does it have feedback?
works on my ps3 and yeah theres force feedback
First of all, for me to spend $599 on a wheel, I would have to use it to drive to work!
Second, I don't play GT5 but desperately need some help with NFS:Hot Pursuit. Is this $90 wheel the answer or something else?
No wheels are supported in NFS:Hot Pursuit. I'm not sure if they plan to add it later.
no. hot pursuit is not adding wheel support.
EA are lucky they have not been sued yet, they said the game will have wheel and 3D support but it does not.
what happened to the days where false advertisement was illegal?
EA, count your lucky stars i dont have the time!
please for the love of god DONT buy that piece of sh*t wheel!
a friend of mine got it a few weeks ago from wireless 1 for 40 bucks!
was over his house the other day and its already broken!
the pedals wont register, the wheel works everything works but when you get in game the pedal wont register.
plus when i used it at the motor show a few months ago the pedals were so soft you could honestly push the pedals down all the way with a feather!
and i thought the G27 pedals did not have enough resistance!
i honestly would not even spend 5 bucks on this POS!
honestly, if you want to get a wheel look around on ebay or other sites, or retail stores for a G25 or G27.
its stupid, some places have the G25 more than the G27 some are the other way around.
but i got my G27 for 340, not bad for a wheel with a RRP of 600 bucks!
seriously, its totally worth the 600!
its not 100 times better than the driving force gt, its not 1000 times better, its 10000 times better!
worth every penny!
spend the money now so you dont have to pay it in a few months time.
better paying 400 or so now and never pay again than pay 90 now and another 90 just to get it fixed every few months!
It is a lie…. This wheel works very good with GT5. Price/Quality is more then OK.
If you want to have more feeling then take of your shoes and handle the pedals with your socks.
go try the G25 or G27 than say that!
theres no freaking feel in the pedals what so ever!
a product breaking after a few weeks is more than OK?
wow, you really do have low standards!
no wonder quality of products have gone down the sh*tter as of late.
hell my father still has his toshiba laptop from 20 years ago, both of us bought ourselves new ones a few months ago and have been into repairs a few times already!
not to mention cars, my mother still has a 92 honda civic never had any problems!
my father had a 98 WRX till this year again never had any problems, bought the latest model and for the last week the electronics are playing up.
& this is a Japanese car, the car thats suppose to be bullet proof!
It is a very solid product! Maybe your friend got a bad wheel. For cases like that you have warranty you know, just go to store and demand a new one.
Just because your friend got a bad wheel does not make the product as a whole bad. If you go and read the product review on the wheel then you see that far most customers are very satisfied.
Did you say your friend got a wireless one?..cause that's a totally different product, and infact inferior to the DFGT. You can never get a DFGT for 40 bucks..
i just had the DFGT with GT5 and its real good !! no problems with the quality of the steering wheel wot so ever
and i found this racing wheel mount looks real sweet!!
