The original received a lukewarm reception from critics but still managed to garner plenty of fans. And the second, based on the debut trailer (see it below), should generate even more fans, and perhaps more love from reviewers.
After debuting at the Spike TV Video Game Awards this past weekend, Activision has officially announced Prototype 2 ; Sgt. James Heller is out to destroy the original anti-hero, Alex Mercer, and things are gonna get nasty. We expect Radical Entertainment will have plenty of time to iron out the kinks found in the first game, and the final product should be well worth playing. Said studio boss Ken Rosman:
"When PROTOTYPE surpassed 2MM units we knew gamers would want a sequel to find out what happens next with Alex Mercer. The team here at Radical is sincerely grateful to the fans and we are laser focused on delivering an even bigger and better experience with PROTOTYPE 2!"
Also, if you missed out on the original title, you can download it now on the Xbox Live Marketplace for $29.99. It will be available on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, December 14, for the same price. Finally, we can expect the first "in-depth preview" to show up in EGM's April 2011 issue. We'll let you know when they nail down a release date for next year.

@Taha1
o.o
I can't believe that is actually coming to us next year…….
Yeah. me too. this game got old too fast =/. I was pissed cause i thought the posters were from a new Resident evil game. bummer
Didn't care for the first one.
Will pass on this for inFamous 2.
Yeah, even if this releases after I would rather just replay inFamous 2.
I was very much unimpressed by the first one, so I really don't intend to buy this one.
Also Infamous totally beats it, yeah, I know they're two very different titles, but still, since that discussion always surfaces around the games… Always found it more of the xbox' Infamous, since it has lesser graphics, a lesser story and lesser gameplay.
Anyways, Infamous 2 = D1P
Infamous 2.Waiting to fight the Beast!
Infamous >>> Prototype
Infamous2 >>> Prototype 2
When will these guys learn?
Never because this is as close to infamous Xboxers have besides Crackdown but that really isn't a superhero sandbox game.
Well, it seems they learned quite a bit. They aren't putting Prototype 2 at the same time as Infamous 2. For an exclusive title to blow a multiplatform game out of the water in all fronts is not something you see everyday. I am also passing on this one and would rather play Infamous 2.
Wow, did I read that right? You're hawking an Infamous wannabe on the 360?!
Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Multi-platform. so it will be on PS3 also.
Prototype & Prototype 2 is for both consoles (360, & PS3).
While I do agree with you and everybody that it's nowhere near better than Infamous, if its one thing that Prototype isn't is a Infamous wanna be it did have it's own identity at least.
Of course it's on both consoles. I just thought it was a little amusing that the 360 version was mentioned and priced, this being a PlayStation site. No biggie……Geeze, why am I explaining this?
Gotcha.
prototype is one of those mediocre games…though fun at first but as you play, you continually notice certain things wrong with the game….prototype 2 a definite pre-order….possibly a purchase if Activision really puts the polish on it……I'm waiting for infamous 2 non-the-less 🙂
activision doesnt polish they just spit shine and kick it out the door
Prototype. I have it for both PC an PS3 but sadly, both fail to impress me. The city looks like it is made out of cardboard boxes and it's bland and repetitive. The combat is okay but the superpowers/biotransformations are downright cool. Alex looks awesome in that armor thingy.
So, Prototype 2 is most likely a pass. A big pass.
Was Prototype better than InFamous? NO..yet it was still a solid game. Not a great game but solid. It was cool to me.
There were allot of things about that game that bugged me; like for example when you are your regular self the military guys will chase you all damn day but when change your disguise you run up building right in front of they're face and they military would just ignore you even though they're suppose to be on the look out for a shape-shifting super human who run at speeds of a sports, run up the side buildings, choke slam armed helicopters, and body slam armored tanks. that was just something that I found kinda of retarded. Overall I still enjoyed the game though still.
I wish people would stop comparing this infamous the only thing these 2 games have in common is the fact that they're both open-world and the protagonists each have powers, besides that they're nothing alike.

Watched one of my friends play the first one from beginning to end and although it had it's moments, it was to me at best meh. The city was bland and there were too many little things that should have been caught. If I remember right this and inFamous were released at the same time on the same day if I remember right, hence why so many people are comparing the two. As a sandbox game my money is going to inFamous2 and none to activision.
I must be the only person here that enjoyed the first game.
This culture of comparing games and getting over protective of one series over another, is getting kinda tired.
As much as I'll gripe over CoD:BO by making references to MoH, I'll offer an opinion based on each games own merits and not on what they're not.
The Prototype V' Infamous debate is equally ridiculous. Throw in the fact that one game is a PS3 exclusive and the other is a multiplat Activision supported game and you get all sorts of fanboy arguments.
I'll respect someone who will debate what they didn't like about Prototype without bringing Infamous or Activision into the fold.
It most certainly wasn't a perfect game but imo it was very enjoyable and not worthy of half of the bad press it received.
I'm definitely interested in seeing how the sequel turns out.
The game sold 2million plus so I doubt you're the only one that enjoyed it despite it's many flaws, in fact I've gone to other sites(ign) were it seems the majority preferred Prototype over infamous( even though allot them were more than likely xbox fanboys & probably never played infamous), at the end of the day its all about ones own preference.

Personal preference, I'd agree with that Guyver.
I thought the first Prototype was excellent fun. If they sharpen up the enviroment and have a few more things to do instead of speed runs….Prototype 2 will be a hit.
The transforming thing was cool and the running up the side of buildings never got old. I felt more like a superhero in Prototype than I did in Infamous, my opinion.
Dare I say it, I had more fun with Prototype too then Infamous. The only thing they had in common was the running up buildings, other than that both offered different experiences. Prototype was more my thing as much as I did enjoy Infamous. I will most likely be buying both sequels next year.
It is alright to enjoy both 'running up building' games without having to slate the one you least liked completely, just because of who is publishing it or because it's not the exclusive.
UH! Prototype doesn't come out until 2012.
and you couldn't run up the side of buildings in infamous but you could climb up them. I think that's what you meant right.
Yep,
Climb = Infamous
Run = Prototype
Fun = Both Titles
Having your arm turn into a giant blade that cuts people in half…..priceless.
"Bigger and Better" than the first Prototype should be a very easy feat to accomplish.
Story looks good.
But id much rather by infamous 2 and then watch heroes for some true bad assery.
im sorry but sylar ftw…!
I never did understand the whole inFamous vs Prototype thing. Shouldn't it have been "na na PS3 gets both and you get only one?"
Or for those who only have the Wii, well, you got none.
Very well said!
Exactly my point.
Well IMO, P1 may have not been as great as I1 was, but still, it was a fun game.
And the the only "REAL" comparison I saw to each other was that they both released on the heels of each other.
So I'll be looking forward to P2, as well as I2
I really enjoyed I1. One of my favorite exclusives. I just picked up P1 and I'm looking forward to giving it a spin based on recommendations.
I hear the trophies are a biotch though!
meh……
Cole's cooler than Alex.
i am very excited about this one! i loved it over infamous i have both but this guy is a beast so many powers great news for me anyways lol and yes infamous 2 what in reading is def a day one purchase ! both of these games are amazing
Hell, I enjoyed Prototype a lot. Had hours of fun running around and causing total mayhem once I've finished the game, but after a certain time it bored me.
Prototype 2 will be on my to get list in 2010 for sure!
:)))))
2012*

prototype was one of them games that took too long to come out. I remeber I saw the trailer and was amazed at the concept. 3 years later I was not so amazed because infamos amazed me (&came out first) and I had never heard of it before I bought it. prototype seems like my kind of game so I will pick it up when it comes to the store.
