We can't wait for Resistance 3 . It's really the only reason we plan to tune into the Spike VGAs this weekend.
In the meantime, Insomniac Creative Director Marcus Smith has loaded up the PlayStation Blog with a "story so far" update that tells you everything you need to know about the new plot's background. There are some R2 spoilers – if you care – so fair warning. They tell you all about the main character, Joseph Capelli, who is hiding from the invading hordes with his wife, Susan, and his son, Jack, along with other survivors in the town of Haven, Oklahoma. It's not about fighting, anymore; it's about staying in the shadows and surviving. But when he's given the opportunity to do something about the Chimera, he strikes off across the country, heading for New York City…that ought to be one hell of a cross-country trek. The atmosphere is always downright awesome in these games, so we're expecting nothing less than brilliance in that respect.
You can also learn about how the Chimera now hunt humans with death squads, check out the new screenshots, and hit the link for that live action GamesCom trailer, which you've probably already seen many times. From a "treacherous boat journey" to weapon information (the Bullseye is back and the Marksman has been overhauled again), to enemy details to multiplayer stuff, it's a big update well worth reading. Hey, who likes upgradeable weapons? This guy.

So does that mean there is going to be some stealth in this game? That would be interesting. I still hate Capelli, but this game is gonna be sweet any way. Maybe he will run into a mutated and severely pissed off Hale remnant.
I know what you mean. Capelli is a bit of a meathead character. Maybe he'll act a little smarter with his wife and kid around.
Seeing as how it quite possibly will be Insomniac's PS3 exclusive swan song, I hope it's really good.
I like how they're willing to change some things up. There's always room for improvement.
Sort of like Bungje did with Halo Reach. The swan song being the best of the series. But Insomniac will supposedly still be creating PS3 exclusives.
I could harldy recognize Capelli in those scans. But I'm glad it's releasing in late 2011 – there is just TOO many games to purchase next year.
Looking at the exclusives releasing in late 2011 i think Uncharted 3 might not make it next year.
The Last Guardian will be epic.
Last G, KZ3, and R2 will probly be our exclusive lineup.
well that and also infamous 2, lbp2
Doh, yeah inFamous 2 will be my GOTY prolly.
Infamous 2 is a day one preorder. But i'm concerned about cole's voice but if the new voice actor pulls it off good then no concern because the story is already going to be epic.
It's sounding good, but I still miss Hale. It'll be great to play as humanity decimated. I just hope that you really do get the feeling of ridiculously overwhelming odds, because that was talked up for R2, but I never felt it. I also like that it sounds like they are going to be varying the gameplay somewhat, as I always get tired of just shooting things. Oh, and a journey like that just promises a long game, doesn't it?
Peace.
So excited. This is my favorite FPS series and what eventually led me to giving other FPS games a try. This and BioShock are my tops.
I'm officially renaming Bioshock a First Person Adventure.
Haha, I can agree with that. I'd rather just call it a horror or dark fantasy game, but games have weird genre labels.
this game will be great, cant wait…..well i can wait actually. like yas have all stated "SO MANY GAMES DUE IN 2011" i am literally gonna have no life…….and proud of it
actually i see it as a form of investment. buying al these quality games will ecourage me to stay home all weekend nearly every weekend. saves me spending 2 or 3 sometimes 400 bucks goin out to clubs with mates all the time. hehe
That is an excellent way of putting it. Stay home. Play games. Save money. Buy and play more games. I find much more entertainment value with video games. I too sometimes over spend when I am out and about.
I won't be able to Resist this game.
I can't wait to see some footage of this game.
Has anyone else noticed that more and more PS3 exclusives from the top devs are starting to resemble the awesome graphics found in Uncharted series?
Is ND sharing their engine?
They share techniques with them yes.
Capelli looks like one of the characters out of Heavy Rain now…
I was a little curious as to where they were going to go with this after the end of R2…this should be interesting..
The only thing that I don't like about the game so far is the removal of the online co-op. That was the most played game mode by most people who played R2.
Story wise I wish R2 would've ended differently. You get these special powers at the end only to get shot in the head. The Resistance series is great for the playstation and has one of the best story lines out there..
I agree with the whole powers and then not getting to really use them….thats kinda like Playing any God of War and not getting to use your culmination of powers you gain throughout the game in the final battle.
Doesnt matter to me though, I am still waiting on Resistance 3, Killzone 3, LBP2, inFamous 2, Bioshock Infinite, and The Last Guardian and I can die a happy man, AFTER I've been locked away in a windowsless room with those games for at least a year! LoL!

It would be nice if they could retain the online co-op, as well as reinstating the co-op for the main campaign (maybe incorporating some extra co-op only stuff?).
I thought the ending of R2 was neat, but kinda jarring and abrupt yeah. Not that I think those things make it horrible, just different. Overall though I liked it (except for the missing co-op main campaign).
As for the weapons, R:FoM had the weapon wheel while R2 had the main and a secondary option as anyone who's played it knows. Having a vast array of weapons available (once picked up of course) is cool, yet not as realistic as having two or three at once (especially depending on the size). In this regard I'm kind of torn as I like the expanded choice, but it's not as to be able to carry a dozen weapons (even in a game, movie or any other fictional/hypothetical situation). I guess it would be nice again to have the option, I'm all about options as long as it's not released with glearing bugs/glitches and devs continue to optimize/patch/upgrade their games until it runs the best it can.
Overall though hopefully they add all they can and really use the potential of those BDs.
Ill have to pass on R3. I was really disappointed with R2, so much that I think its one of the worst fps Ive ever played. I only like the first one and R:R for the PSP.
I realize that this is your opinion, but it's a completely asinine opinion…
What about that game makes it one of the WORST fps games youve ever played….unless you've only played about 4 fps's, in which case you at least have some type of an argument for saying that it's one of the worst….which it's NOT! but anyway, that's just my opinion.
Not going to knock your opinion. Not sure how R2 is the worst FPS you've ever played though. There was nothing wrong with R2 at all except maybe the story was a little short. Other then that I saw nothing wrong with it at all. Hell it's still a better game than Call of Duty..and I mean any Call of Duty
Didn't mean to offend anybody, just sayin, I, me personally just didn't have a good time with it. Of all the fps Ive played in my life (and trust me its been many) it just didn't hit the spot like I had hoped and turned out to be one of the most disappointing fps I have ever played, not the worst fps, just not the best. But that's just me, everyone has their likes and dislikes.

At Gamestop we have a current release date of September 2nd….I'm so excited though. I really don't want to wait that long…Just make it hurrryyyy D:

After the last two they've earned a day one pick up from me. On a side note, I am so glad they brought the weapon wheel back!
I AGREE. The weapon wheel was so much more convenient, even though it was less realistic….I could just LAARK the sh** out of whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.
Yeah, they both have their pros and cons, one pro being it's nice having more choice. Being upgradable too, I think, is cool and a nice addition.
