You know, in retrospect, I think we did a damn good job of keeping up-to-date with all the big releases.
We missed a few games during the insane October/November blitz but in looking at that list, there don't seem to be any grievous omissions. Even so, I've vowed to review the game that you most want to see reviewed, and it wasn't much of a contest: it seems I'll have to take a look at The Sly Collection . I'm actually quite glad this won because in all honesty, there were several titles on the poll that I really didn't want to play. And after the sheer amount of games I've been forced to analyze for work purposes in the past few months, I'm not sure I could've handled another sub-par disappointment. But at least I got to play and review some unbelievably great titles, too, and I've no doubt that Sly in high-definition is well worth the time and money. I'm just hoping the gameplay holds up over time… We'll have to see.
This week, it's the start of something new: we're adding a new category in our Game of the Year Awards this year; it's the Reader's Pick, and that will be the game that gets the most votes in our final poll. We'll start with a selection of 20 titles and work with 10 each week. The top 5 from each week will comprise the finalists and that will run for the last two weeks of the month, right up until we do our Awards between December 31 and January 1. So yeah, y'all get your say this year. 🙂
I voted for The Fight because I need games to justify my move purchase, but The Sly Collection is good to because I never played it on ps2 because my cousins broke mine 3 months after launch.
i picked the exact same game to get reviewed… trying to see if it justifies a purchase 🙂
Sly also uses the move if that helps.
HEAVY RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yep. Heavy Rain all the way.
Same here.
Yeah I voted for the sly collection!
Heavy Rain deserves the Game Of the Year Award
but it they might not pick it.

I think that The Sly Collection was a good choice for the review. But this current GOTY Poll seems to be missing an important candidate. Where is Battlefield Bad Company 2 at? It is one of the few games I actually enjoy going online with. The people I play online with for the most part work together as a team which makes multi-player awesome. Even the single player is pretty good. I just wondering if it got lost in the shuffle because it came out early in the year.

It'll be in the next voting phase.
got 100% playing the 1st sly cooper game. on my 2nd one now. can't find the 40th clue bottle in india. its driving me nuts.
Just listen for the clinking. The louder it gets, the closer you are. I've racked up all the bottles in the first 5 chapters. There are no trophies tied into the bottles in Sly 2 other than collecting 30 bottles overall.
The Sly Collection. Need I say more?
My overall GOTY remains Red Dead Redemption. No game I played in 2010 came even close. The writing, the voice acting, the gameplay; everything was near perfect. If you haven't played this, what are you waiting for?
Heavy rain is the only game that has made me tear up since final fantasy 7. It made my heart race and made me feel the consequences of each and every action. It should be game of the year all over the place but I don't think it will get it's fair share of praise. Especially from the xbot lovers over at gamespot with their 8.0 for gran turismo.
Heavy Rain is my pick for the 1st phase.
Heavy Rain deserves the GotY. It was one of the most amazing experiences in gaming I had in a long time! It made me feel so deeply sad for the main characters and I got connected with them so closely.
Waiting for the Sly Collection Review! 🙂
Red Dead Redemption has been some of the most fun I had this year. On top along with GoW3. Still have not tried GT5. (wife says not until Christmas) I'm already having fun going through Sly Collection, only played the first one when it came out on ps2.
I've been wondering Ben. How many trophies do you have? I'm only 60% through Level 10.
I really don't know. All I know is I have a ton of Trophies I DON'T want and I can't get rid of them…
Sony needs to send us a patch where you can erase trophies you don't want.There are a few games that some of my family members have played on my PS3 and now I have some dumb trophies of games I haven't even played,(it sucks).
I totally agree on Sony needing to give us a trophy delete button.
In my case, since I'm a collector, I buy every game I can(even the crapola games), but I won't play about a 1/3 of those.
But I still sample every one in case I might wind up liking it. And every now & then while sampling a game & then deciding I don't like it, I still managed to get 1 trophy, so it now stays in my list forever.
GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sony could, of course, change the way trophies work but erasing trophies wouldn't work AS IS because when the system synchs trophies, it adds any omissions from either source (local and server) to whichever is missing.
So, when you deleted trophies locally (on any of your PS3s), it would also have to send a specific message to the server that those trophies must be deleted there as well or else it would just re-add them the next time you synched. Otherwise, it would assume you earned those trophies on a different PS3 and "fix" your local count.
I don't get why people don't want the trophies they earned, but I can see why you wouldn't want trophies someone else earned on your account.
p.s. I voted for Heavy Rain because it pushed the envelope of game design more than any of the others.

I agree as well, it would be nice to have more management control over our account's trophies. I also would like it if we could manage/delete things in our download history.
Dang it! How come you had to put peace walker and Gran turismo in at the same time? I think you could only make this harder for me uf there was an ape escape game this year,
Ape Escape is coming next year for the Move.
Heavy Rain for me. RDR was excellent as well but didn't have the emotional impact of HR.
When a video game makes you tear up then you know it's something special…
My favorite game this year is BF:Bad Company 2, but the best game this year is Heavy Rain. It should win for doing something new in gaming and doing it well.
Yep, Sly Trilogy all the way. I'll enjoy reading your review to get amped up for the opportunity to buy it.
As for the new poll, I've got half, played four of them, and my vote goes straight to Heavy Rain. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Wonder what other choices there'll be next week…
Peace.
P.S. I think it's pretty clear to see what the people on this site think of Black Ops… Although with only three standouts thus far, it'll be strange if the balance doesn't grow.

Aaarrgghhh…there are 3 games on this list I wanaa vote for – Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5 and Red Dead Redemption.
I voted for The Fight, by the way. I'm especially interested in knowing how it works after the new transperency patch.
Ben's sly review, and H R G O T Y
That's all there is to say!
In my opinion, 'The Sly Collection' is one of the best deals you can get right now, but it doesn't seem to be getting nearly enough attention, so I'm hoping more and more sites review it.
As for the 2010 Game of the Year, my pick would have to be 'Heavy Rain.'
Besides a plot hole and some minor technical issues (I've heard of the worse ones, but have yet to experience them in my 20+ playthrus, so I won't count them against it), the game was virtually flawless. The only title I think approaches 'Heavy Rain' is 'Mass Effect 2' (I need a lot more time with 'Gran Turismo 5' before passing final judgment on it), so my choice is obvious.
I also voted for Heavy Rain. I just finished my first playthrough of the game and I was amazed with pretty much everything about it. I am so glad that people on this site are mature enough to give a title like Heavy Rain a fighting chance for GOTY. There's a lot of awesome games that came out this year, and Heavy Rain deserves to be up there in the top tier.
i picked red dead, i just love how some sceneries just look endless. and all the side little challanges u can do. had heaps to offer, LOVED IT. then Heavy rain would be my 2nd pick. havent played it for awhile. definitely gonna finish it again sometime over the holidays.
This was a good year! The games imo that got me hooked this year.
* Red Dead Redemption
* God of War 3
* God of War collection
* Darksiders
* Gran Turismo 5
Hope 2011 will be just as good
I've got to be honest here, the thought of a new TM title fails to excite me in any way :(. Now, on the other hand, thinking about the imminent announcement of Uncharted 3 after the VGAs, that sends chills down my spine 🙂
ben if you really didnt want to play those games why didnt you let arnold or john do the review???
That's a tough list to pick from but I'm going to have to go with Heavy Rain and I've only played the demo. I just picked it up finally and I plan to play through it over and over again during the holidays. My girlfriend's ecstatic to watch it. Still though, from the little bit I've played and from what I've seen and know about, Heavy Rain should easily be the GotY. Mature storytelling through an innovative gaming scheme should definitely grant it that.
Oh, and Ben, do you plan on adding PSN games to your GotY options or will you include those in an individual category?
They are in an individual category for the regular PSXE awards, but Joe Danger will be included in the Reader's Pick Phase 2.
Right on, thanks. There was definitely a lot of stellar PSN titles this past year so that should be an interesting category.
The Sly Collection should get more reviews and more visibility. Anytime a franchise gets a revamping they should definitely support it by doing nothing less than supporting it.
It'll be fun to play these games in HD and have Sly Cooper in the minds of PS3 owners. That way the newest installment can be appreciated and become a success.
I had a hard time picking in this new poll. I love Fallout: New Vegas and I'm a longtime hardcore fan of the series. But Heavy Rain was such an emotional and thrilling rollercoaster, and it was really fun too. But my vote goes to Red Dead Redemption, because that game made me skip on going swimming and such during summer, because it was so much fun. None of the other games would do that, even though I've spent well over 50 hours in Fallout: New Vegas.
🙂
So unfair…
We should get 5 votes each. LOL.
Honestly, I can't pick GOW3 over heavy rain and vice versa.
I had to go with Heavy Rain on this one. It's been a while since I've played, but that was one hell of an experience. It's a shame that this game hasn't, and probably never will get the praise it deserves.
ben for one of the next 10 titles you need to include bad company 2. its at least worthy of a mention
