Honestly, there just isn't much else to talk about today. Gran Turismo 5 has arrived and the world is lovin' it. Thus, the headlines must follow.
UK Boss Ray Maguire was talking to Eurogamer about the status of the revered franchise during a very different generation. Sure, things have changed but as he sees it, everyone is just going to be amazed by GT5, and that's what matters. Said Maguire:
"I didn't know until I saw it. Like you I was thinking, well, the world has moved on a little bit, social gaming has emerged, people are accepting smaller, bite-sized bits of gaming at very low value. Then I saw it, I saw the detail of it, and it does take your breath away. You go, 'Oh my God, now I understand it.'"
GT5 is the first full console release since GT4, which launched for the PS2 back in 2004. And in the past 6 years, Maguire admits that the "gaming landscape has changed" and that just because the casual gamer rules, that doesn't mean the hardcore have completely disappeared. "I want it all," Maguire added. "I don't just want Angry Birds and Doodle Jump." He believes there's room for both in today's gaming world and consumers will find a way to "fit it all together in a wider universe." As for whether or not GT5 will be a system selling piece of software, Maguire notes that the series has always been important for the PlayStation brand:
"Clearly one of the games which was very important for PS2 was Gran Turismo. It took the machine to the limits, and it continued to do that all the way through to the last iteration.
What's interesting is that there's been nothing until now on GT. That's because the hardware that we have now allows for so much more freedom. The passion and the drive for excellence that Kazunori has is taking him all the way through to try and push the technology we have now."
It's getting difficult to read all this without actually playing, isn't it? Maybe you should remedy that issue soon…hey, it's Thanksgiving week; you don't have to work that much right? …nah, just me. 😉

I thought GT5 was releasing on Black Friday?
It releases tomorrow.
why the massive thumbs down on the guy? He had a thought that was just a bit off, lol
Thanks for sticking up for me Gangun, but I deserved it lol
The biggest PS3 launch in history and I don't know the release date =D
So bring the down thumbs on suckas!
Anyway, I have the game pre-ordered online and I don't get to play until Christmas.

your welcome, it's good you forgot, it means you still human..
I'm so excited. Just received my email confirmation that my GT5 Collector's Edition from BestBuy is ready for pickup tomorrow.
If you want your copy of GT5 (non-collectors) on release day, get over to Amazon and order release day delivery before noon! It's not too late…yet!
I chose release date delivery from Amazon for my Collector's Edition so I'm anxious to get home from work tomorrow. Now if only I could take Friday off…personal/sick days ftw?
I tried that myself, but it wouldn't work. If you look closely it's being sold by Target, not Amazon. With 1 day shipping, estimated delivery date is up to December 29.
I hope that's not the case with me: I pre-ordered back in August of this year and the current status is listed as "Shipping Soon" with an estimated delivery date of "November 24, 2010". Just yesterday it was listed as "Not Yet Shipped"
don't worry the last time I got release day shipping on amazon they shipped it out at 11PM and I got it the next day
I have used release day shipping had never had a problem. Maybe the current date listing now is for new orders.
If you are seeing the correct ship/delivery date, I wouldn't worry.
it doesnt really matter if it comes a few days or even a few weeks late does it??? 😛 bring on the downward thumbs XD
I am taking Friday off after Thanksgiving for a GTHoliday.
I'm reading so much about it but then….I'm also reading about people being really mad about the standard cars not having a cockpit view other than the premium cars….Honestly I use the other views more than the cockpit view so why are they mad? The wait for this game on the other hand is the longest wait yet….CAN'T SLEEP even though i should be *sigh*
Every car I used has cock pit view. And I started with a 97 civic type R lol.
ah so everything i've been hearing is a lie then. Good to know.
Every car has a cockpit view, it's just that the premium cars have a lot more detail in their exterior and interior models. Basically, they look better, and the standard car interiors look more generic.
I hate being the bringer of bad news, but the standard cars DO NOT have interior views.
It's a bummer, yes. But you should be prepared for that.
@highlander. only premium cars have interior views.
Since when? Polyphony had confirmed that standard cars had a generic cockpit view, and that the premium cars had a more elaborate cockpit view with a detailed interior. When was the cockpit view removed from the standard cars?
It's been that way for awhile. It was confirmed on the official site.
Premiums are the only way to go it seems.
Yes. It sucks. But oh well. One pimple on a super models rear end is something anyone should get over, and quickly.
unfortunately i also thought it was that way until I seen some guy on Youtube comparing a standard civic type r vs the premium one.
I'm not sure when it was confirmed that the standard cars have n ocockpit view, but I remember the internet exploding into a near orgasmic frenzy of hatred.

Peace.
In really sick of gamers these days. Already some sites are trying to down play how good this game it going to be.
@jawknee everyone knows that its gonna be unbelievable. some sites just like to run down ps3 exclusives i.e. egde. they gave killzone 2 a 7, infamous a 7 and mgs4 an 8. its sadly inevitable that they will do the same wih gt5. thankfully it just erodes their own credibility
I was under the same impression as Higlander. I don't remember them saying they took out cockpit views only that the Premium Cars would have Premium Detail.
EDIT: Aaah that post above was meant for the bottom of the thread(stupid iPhone) but thanks for replying Naughty.

To anyone who cares, every car does have a cockpit view. The premium cars have it to where you can look around the entire interior front and back and see the meticulous detail put into them. The standard cars do not,but they do have a cockpit view while your driving.Just look at the video on Gametrailers.com,there is a mustang driving in the rain with a cockpit view and that is not a premium car of course.Sorry to rant but Gt.com calls it a GT5 video blowout but only has like 4 videos for GT5 up.I think they suck balls for that, cause they put like 10 or more for Cod Bo.
I've been playing the game since last night and oh man I was way overwhelmed! In my eyes its perfect, and I hope everyone else feels the same way when they get their copy!:)
can you clarify whether the standard cars have cock pit view or not please?
I really enjoy any driving game, but i feel as if it is a necessity to have a racing wheel with this game. 🙂
PS2 was only pushed by GT4 and GOW2.
ARGH! I *hate* this line of thinking that Ray Maguire was talking about;
"the world has moved on a little bit, social gaming has emerged, people are accepting smaller, bite-sized bits of gaming at very low value."
Ugh! The world has moved on? I call BS on that. The world hasn't moved on, commerce has. Commerce figured out that it's easier to extract more from consumers if you do it gradually in small bits instead of in one big bite. People don't help though, they want cheap and don't give a rat's ass about quality. It's cheap enough that they treat it as disposable and buy another. When a casual game costs less than a coffee at McDonalds, people will buy it without even thinking about it. It doesn't matter if the game is a steaming pile of smelly stuffy, it only cost less than a coffee, throw it away and get another, it's bound to be better.
UGH! I had this dripping roast, gradual extraction of funds from gamers. It's like those insidious Facebook games. Never mind that Facebook is less secure than leaving your front door open at night. Never mind the friend tyranny where people get ticked if you don't friend them, or put their annoying butt on ignore. No. It's 'games' like Farmville, CafeWorld, MafiaWars, Realm of Empires or whatever other piece of crap 'free' game it is. Every one of these sorry excuses for 'mouse click madness' is built to allow basic play for free, but for trivial amounts of money you can add extras, you can buy virtual costumes or additional buildings, resources whatever. You can buy extra game tools to help manage your addition more efficiently – which just drags you in further. People spend obscene amounts of money on the virtual crap in these games. they make Home and the virtual items there look like great value by comparison.
Oh, but this is apparently the *future* of gaming? NO! No, I will not accept it. I refuse to accept it. It's bad enough that the world and his dog all want to shoot each other in a game (and half of them will do it in reality given half a chance). As bad as I feel about the over dominance of shooters, this insane drive to small, cheap games or 'gamelets' with additional features and add-ins that you by for a quarter or $0.50 or $0.99 are just about the closest thing we have to evil in the gaming world. I hate them, I hate what they do to gamers and gaming. I hate how game publishers are pandering to this supposed evolution of gaming. It's not a step forward, it's a step backwards into the mire of shovel ware.
Oh, but we do everything like this now. Airline tickets used to be inclusive, but people felt they were too expensive, so the airlines broke the ticket out. Now you pay for your seat, and separately pay for your various federally mandated fees, your online booking fee, or telephone booking fee, you advanced boarding pass, your luggage, food on the aircraft, restrooms on the aircraft (Ryan air in the UK for one does this). There are almost innumerable upcharges for everything now. By the time you figure out how much you spent on the flight, you have probably paid more than you would when the tickets were priced all inclusive. But, because everything is charged in separate transactions, people don't notice.
This happens in so many areas now. Under the guise of making things less expensive, the total spend by the consumer for the same amount of product or service increases, but the consumer thinks they are getting a better deal. they aren't, they are getting a raw deal, and this "smaller, bite-sized bits of gaming at very low value" is just the latest example of it.
</rant>
I agree with you 100% highlander it really is BS. Give me my QUALITY games back. Seems the only ones that even give quality titles anymore are a few 3rd party developers and PS3 exclusives
Take A deep breath.
Deep breath taken, and I'll take a shot of tequila (or Vodka) tonight…
😀
Lol
Hear! Hear! your rant is fully in order. It's company's like Rockstar, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Polyphony that we should embrace for their quality product.
You know, sometimes I love you. Not in that "hey let's grease ourselves up and play hide the quarter" way, but in that "hey this guy makes valid points and is an educated individual" way.
Well….maybe a little bit of the first option….
Chill Highlander 🙂
This is consumerism at its [insert your opinion here]. Back then we rarely see this many people game. But now, we see all sorts of gamers, from the Farmville people to the hardcore FFVII players. I think the main culprit are these words: "casual gamer". Some of yesteryear's best were done away because of this direction. FF13 was a victim. CoD is the best example on catering to such gamers. Quite honestly, I only became a bit hardcore recently during my teen years. I played those greats: FFVII, FFVIII, Legend of Dragoon, Gran Turismo, Need For Speed, Quake etc but I appreciated it back then more for the fun not the experience (which I would confess that I used Gameshark for a majority of games back then 🙁 But yeah, now, when i get a chance to play some of these again, I do them the normal way–good ol' fashioned perseverance. Ironically though, I don't have as much time now as I did back then. Life's funny 🙂
Peoples attention spans have gotten shorter, simple as that. People these days want to sit and press buttons mindlessly and not have to deal with great storylines, but that's not even the worst of it. All these 'casual gamers' don't even recognise quality. It's sad to see gamers going out in droves and buying endless Call of Duty games and movies games and refusing to give games like Heavy Rain the sales numbers that they deserve. I'm counting on Gran Turismo 5 to upset this trend.
As a card carrying member of the short attention span, actual ADD suffers of America, I can say that reduced attention span only affects that which you are not interested in. If you are interested in something you can devote near infinite attention to it.
I apologise ,highlander, for my comment. What I meant to say is that people look for a sort of instant gratification when playing games nowadays and are unwilling to invest time into a game if it doesn't involve white knuckled action from start to finish.
The people who participate in these games are not entirely to blame. This personality type has existed all these years. It is only now that they have access to the internet and the ability to play these games and spends untold amounts of time and money. It is the companies that have conspired and through surveys, focus groups and what not have found that they too have access to this audience. An audience that simply does not care that they are being robbed blind and tricked into these addicting habits.
I wonder if usage would be the same if these companies actually displayed the amount of money that the user has spent over the lifetime of playing said game. I am seriously going to look into that because I know of at least two people who constantly send me requests and invitations and notices that they have done this or that in these games. It got to the point that I had to delete them completely. Madness.
By the way.. All my accounts are set completely to private. Although I am still weary of these so called social services.

@NaughtyDog Fan,
No reason for an apology at all. I was just saying that the usual misconception about short attention span is that everyone is somehow becoming ADD. What's funny is that it's partially true, and partially the complete opposite. For a person with ADD (and there is a wide spectrum of severity of symptoms), when you're engaged in a task you're not all that interested in it's hard to maintain focus. The flip side is something called hyperfocus. When you are interested in the thing you're doing it's easier to maintain focus (naturally). But, if it's something you really like, one of your favorite things so to speak, you actually go way beyond that into hyperfocus. This is a state of highly focused attention, so focused that you are quite oblivious the other things around you. It requires a strong stimulus to break you out of it, such as a sudden very loud noise, or someone literally giving you a shake.
Seriously, no problem at all, no offense at all, really.
I do agree with the shorter attention span thing, but I think it's because the pace of life has accelerated, we're all expected to multi-task, and everything is consumed in the equivalent of sound bytes. If you look at TV shows and movies over the last 50 years and analyze the length of scenes and the frequency of cutting to another shot, the scene length has gone down and the frequency of cut has shot up. So whether it's a reflection of society or a driver behind it, the short attention space thing is definitely a factor.
well i apologize if it isnt allowed… but this is perfect for the situation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dib2-HBsF08
in case my post with the youtube link doesnt get approved lol
just look up the speech from the movie network for the perfect picture of how this argument should be presented 😀
In response to your first post( yes, I did hit that reply button, honest, LOL)
Hear Ye Hear Ye…
"King Highlander has spoken"
(I agree 100%, just take a look at my peeved rebuttal post I just made at the bottom of the "unlock DLC cars for NFS:HP" thread).

Beautifully written Highlander. I absolutely agree with the points you've made, although I would go so far as to add modern MMO's into the problem that you bring up. So many of them offer mini-transactions in order to raise revenue, and gamers actually consider this a better option. It's mind boggling.
Also, I blame a lot of it on society. Life is almost schizophrenic in its speed and need nowadays, and people don't seem to realise that it is essential to lean back every now and again, turn everything off and just think 'F**k it, I don't care about today. It's just another day, and I'm going to use it to be off.' Just completely switch off to the cares and worries of the world. I understand that some people are unable to do this because of commitments, but for most, it needs to be done.
Peace.
One of the editors, the racing guru, over at GameSpot recorded his first hour of play ( he sucks) and, through his commentary as he played, had nothing nice to say about GT5.
I hate to say it, but this is pretty much to be expected. Then again, Gamespot's reviews are often of the "I has game" variety.
I don't know about that TheHighlander. Ben often cites Gamespot's reviews and scores when defending his own.
