Mass Effect 2 PS3 Loaded With DLC, Interactive Comic

Well, considering the wait, PlayStation 3 owners should expect a little something extra, right?

Almost exactly one year after launching for the Xbox 360 and PC, BioWare's excellent Mass Effect 2 will hit the PlayStation 3 in January 2011. The studio has confirmed that the benefit of Blu-Ray will allow the PS3 version to come packed with available downloadable content. This means that when you pick up ME2, you'll also nab the Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and Blood Dragon Armor DLC packs. PS3 owners will also gain access to the Cerberus Network, which allows free access to even more DLC, including Zaeed character missions.

However, bear in mind that if you buy ME2 used, you'll have to pay for this access; it's part of EA's Online Pass program, remember? Lastly, as sort of a compensation for the year delay, BioWare has teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to deliver "an interactive comic that helps fill in the story leading up to the events in Mass Effect 2 ." Added Jesse Houston, BioWare producer of the comic:

"While I can't release all the details about this yet, what I can tell you is that we want to create a stunning visual experience that not only tells the core story elements of Mass Effect 1, but also is fully interactive allowing you to be faced with some of the major choices which will have consequences your Mass Effect universe."

The comic will debut as a PS3 exclusive. Finally, BioWare revealed that more DLC packs will become available for the PS3 version, which means that although we had to wait, we're definitely getting a whole lot of preferential treatment now. Is it enough to entice you if you missed out last year…? Should be, if you're an RPG fan.

That's a lot of content, as expected of EA.

"that the benefit of Blu-Ray will allow the PS3 version to come packed with available downloadable content" – that seems like a direct burn to M$ to me, anyone else?

i watched my buddy play this on his 360 and it looked cool for a 360 game that wasnt halo or call of doody modern crapfare 2. what i want to know is, is this a port? or are they doing this ground up? what are they building on? i havent been following this so if anyone can tell me.

an interactive comic is cool idea to me. im a big comic reader or was in the past. i have a pretty big collection and now some of it is digital. i dont value my digital ones like my real ones though.

In all likelihood the game is still going to be flawed as it is made with Unreal engine.

As much as I hate the UE, it fits pretty well with the futuristic landscapes. It gives the future a shininess that looks just right, except once you go to any forest planets, then it looks like crap.

The unreal engine can't touch the epic shininess of insomniac's engine. Pretty, pretty, shinny, shinny.

I watched one of my few friends that have a 360 play ME1 and ME2 and I was impressed with what I saw. I will get this when it comes out.

I really want to get this just for the dlc, although I already have it and the first one on 360. Yet I will never get to play any of that sweet dlc on my 360 because I will never dish out $75 for a wifi adapter for a system that I will never play online with.

I just wonder if it'll have any DLC that hasn't already been released. I really don't care about the comic. If it's pretty much the exact same thing as what I have on PC, I'll pass, but it's a highly recommended title for those that love RPGs.

I already played the 360 version, but i'll be getting this one, for the DLC, and to continue the rest of the series on my choice of console. But that is also contingent on the how good the port is.

I was already happy enough that the PS3 was getting it. Now this is like frosting on the cake. Delicious butter-cream frosting, not any of that fake sugary stuff.

I'm obsessive about 'Mass Effect' and already own both games on PC and 360, but a PS3 version will definitely complete the scene.

is this interactive comic in the disc?
because some people dont have internet, and dont have played the first Mass effect, so if its coming only in the Cerberus will f-ck a lot of people, me included.

Off topic but the trailer for L.A. Noire is coming out November 11th on the Rockstar website and on Facebook.

What a f***ing joke, typical of them going after a modern apeal with digital comic book, its just sad.

Well, I may be mistaken but I think Microsoft owns a licence or some such to the first game so they can't bring it to the PS3 and there is a need to patch up the first games story and give the player the ability to make the decisions from the first game that affect the second. So, an interactive digital comic is less of a modern appeal attempt and more of a loophole to circumvent Microsoft stranglehold on the first game.

Lighten up just a bit 🙂

If they can't release the first game of the series just don't port it at all, it's a really dumb idea. I'm just sick of this era disregarding all their work to the trash.

Sounds awesome – I love sci-fi and Western RPG's. I'll be waiting for the reviews first though, due to the horrible framerate of Bioware's last PS3 game, Dragon Age Origins. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. The other problem is that with GT5 and Dead Space 2 both pre-ordered, I don't know how I'm going to find time to play this.

I almost bought this game for the 360 when it came out, but I decided to hold off for the PS3 version (that, and I do not like putting money into MS pocket).

I am glad I did.

Oooh yes this is such great news, as a matter of fact it's been a long long time since I've looked this much forward to a title.

Plus, it's using the Unreal engine, my favorite! (sorry just had to balance out the rather irrational Unreal-slander around here)

I just got Dragon Age and if it is anything close to that I am ecstatic. So I get all the DLC plus the Blood Dragon armor that came with Dragon Age. I am set.

Hey! Lucky us! We got to wait a year and so we get all this free dlc that should have been included with the first game and then when the game comes out they'll make sure to release some new dlc that we can pay for to make up for us not paying for the first round of dlc.

Score!
