Gunmen Rob GameStop, Snag 100+ Copies Of Black Ops

Did you know that Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out this week? Did you also know it has already turned some people into raving loons?

According to The Baltimore Sun , armed robbers stole cash and over 100 copies of Black Ops from a Harford County GameStop this past weekend. At least two men were involved; they wielded semi-automatic weapons and carried away four cases full of Activision's latest CoD installment, as well as cash and hardware. Unfortunately, this must be a dangerous region, as it's the second Harford County GameStop location to get robbed in less than three weeks. What's worse is that two customers entered the store while the robbery was in progress and the gunmen forced the shoppers into a storage area, although nobody was hurt in the process. As a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office told reporters, the games stolen weren't allowed to go on sale until Tuesday; perhaps it's a fair assumption that Black Ops was the "inspiration" behind the robbery. But if that's the case, we'd just like to know what they intend to do with those 100+ copies…do they think they're going to find desperate buyers who simply can't wait until Tuesday?

Maybe. But if you're paying a large sum of money to play Black Ops – or really, any video game – a few days before it's available, you just don't have enough to do.

They had Kobe Bryant in that commercial. They are advertizing like crazy for that game. If the robbers sell it for $50 a piece that's an easy five grand. I wonder if there is some way to track the game so when they finally log on it will let the cops know it was stolen?

"Did you also know it has already turned some people into raving loons?"

Or freaking geniuses.

while armed robbery is seldom a smart thing to do, snagging 100 copies of the hottest game of the week (if not the month, at least) was very smart. those discs are worth $100 to the elite COD players who rule the leaderboards. surely there are 100 ebayers willing to pay exorbitant amounts for a head start at it.

while the method is questionable (a bit brash, maybe), and, among other things, /illegal/, they were undoubtedly the most valuable things in that store. thered be a news article on how stupid they were if they had left them.

I doubt it was stolen by COD nerds, if it was they'd have taken just enough for themselves, stealing a few cases suggests professional criminals who saw an opportunity. Though if you ask fox news it'll be because the game teaches you how to do it.
