The Honorable Route In New Vegas: No Killing Ever

You may have already seen this story on other sites; it's because as gamers ourselves, journalists and critics are always amazed at…well, amazing gaming feats.

Okay, so how's it going with Fallout: New Vegas ? How many people have you killed thus far? Did you kill somebody in the first ten minutes? Have you been trying to abstain but you just can't help yourself every now and then? Well, meet the person who finished the entire game without taking a single solitary life: it's Water_Wendi, who posted a screenshot of his final stats over at the NeoGAF forums . As you can see, zero people and zero creatures were killed during the whole quest…and that's just insane. Fallout has never been my thing but it's not difficult to understand how hard this must be…so who wants to give it a try? Maybe the designers should add a special Trophy for such an accomplishment. Hey, if one person can do it, others can too, right? We're just not sure who will be able to suppress the urge for so long; isn't it against standard gamer instinct, or something?

Well, anyhow, that's worth some attention. Anybody do anything extra special in New Vegas we should know about?

Yes, I didn't buy the game.

Uh… how is that even possible? If it's anything like Fallout 3, you have to kill people, as they generally try to kill you. That's… insane.
Peace.

Yeah, I'm just trying to fathom how it's possible. Running away can't work all the time… NPCs are always crackshots.

I think WorldEndsWithMe has a good point or suggestion on how he did it. Took his sweet time & avoided conflict!

Which is why I commented on his post just after I did on my own. 😀

I believe it, there are amazing ways to negotiate with (and impersonate) member of each faction. If you are sneaky enough you can also avoid most conflicts or have the local wildlife do your fighting for you. But your companions kills count as yours so you'd have to not recruit them.

The game is a bit of a let down and kinda buggy but I'm still addicted. It doesn't have that Fallout 3 magic, but it's pretty close.

Ultimately though, as I am taking the hero route as best I can in most instances, I can tell you the game is more fun when you create mayhem versus talking your way through and negotiation and blackmailing. The problem with that is even just killing some random dude who had the balls to tell me to F off automatically made me fail a mission and I want to do as many missions as possible so I have to be fairly nice.

I'd say this guy's playthrough was probably boring and he stayed away from side quests.

That's it. He had to have just snuck about everywhere and generally been a coward. It's impossible.

Seriously, games kind of make you want to kill all the randoms. We're indoctrinated to do so… Maybe it's a non-gamer who tried to be nice to everyone. Who knows?
Peace.

Thats awesome. Really showcases the range of gameplay, you can beat the whole thing without taking one life. Ghandi mode.

it's amazing how different each person's game plays out… i've never played a game that felt new each time i started a new file… i am still on my first file but in fallout 3, each file felt different…

the honorable route is just too hard to do though for me, my goodness how can you not shoot a creature that comes after you?! there are bean bag rounds for the 12 gauge shotgun though so, it is possible…

but that is just amazing…

Interesting, but that must have been an awfully boring playthrough. I doubt devs are dumb enough to put a trophy in their game that makes it this boring… right?

I dunno… I find the battles the *least* interesting thing to do in Fallout. That's just point-and-click, get a good gun and you're done. It has to be there, but it's almost a neccesary evil.

It's the discovery that makes Fallout for me. Wandering around finding stuff, unwrap new, funny stories along the way. Man I love these kinda games.

Does anyone plan on even trying Hardcore mode? I sure don't. That sounds too painful.

I do and it's actually a lot easier than you think it is. Still harder than normal though.

The thing is, I'm a hoarder in video games, but all my stimpacks would take up room so I'd be skipping back to my hotel room a lot just to save weapons and materials. It might not be hard but it would be infuriating.

world, stimpacks are weightless even in hardcore. the only thing that has weight that doesn't have it on normal is ammo.

Hardcore really isn't that much harder at all

Its going to be annoying enough to get the hardcore trophy

They'd need to add a trophy class outside of the Platinum called "Insane"

They could call it "diamond encrusted uranium trophy" getting one would consist of doing this or beating demons souls in under an hour

All I can do is clap, because I can't personally go without killing something in some form. It's not in my nature. That's why I play games like DMC 1-4 on DMD, Ninja Gaiden on Master Nin, and Monster Hunter. When I have access to FPS games I'm an excellent traditional style sniper (none of that twitch gamer crap, or my name was never Road_kil). To play a game and not kill something is an impressive feat.

The only games I have that don't have killing, are Soul Calibur 3&4, Battle Arena Toshinden, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Ehrgeiz, and Yugioh: Forbidden Memories (And possibly LBP, but I'm not sure about that one…).

So basically two PS3 fighters, 3 Psone fighters, and an old Psone card game… out of nearly a hundred titles from this generation and the two before it.

For not killing anything you getz mad props!

The only glitches on F3 were funny ones like jittering bodies. New Vegas has locked up on me a couple times though.

When I traded in my original copy of Fallout 3 and bought the GOTY edition, I noticed the game freezing a lot more regularly. I still played it way too much though.

Ive experioenced two freezes but the game saves so often it's really not a problem in my opinion – just annoying the two times it happened.

I've already succeeded!

I'm just not interested in this game. Doesn't help that I really hate Obsidian developed games.

Corak

The design concept for Fallout 1 (and Fallout 2) was to have three ways for every quest:
One by force – kill 'em
One by stealth – sneak by, pickpocket or lockpick
One by talking – speech, charisma, intelligence

Seeing that the guys made FNV are part of the team that made the original Fallouts its not that surprising its possible to beat the game without a kill.

Having played FNV on the other hand, makes this a great feat! Props!

Pfft, it's Obsidian predominantly, through and through. No.

The craptastic guys who made Alpha Protocal, couldn't finish an Alien RPG. others like were extremely bug ridden like Kotor 2. Neverwinter 2 the list goes on.

Seriously I have NOT played a game by these guys which has been polished and well designed.

Now I'm not saying this is impossible, BUT in a world where people are figuring out how to mod games and consoles right out of the box, I'm skeptical.
