EA Puts NBA Elite 11 On The Bench

Well, considering the situation, it was probably the right move.

EA recently scrapped the long-running NBA Live franchise and had intended the new NBA Elite name to take its place. However, EA Sports was inclined to delay the game until next year, all the while watching 2K Sports grab the attention of all b-ball fans with the stellar NBA 2K11 . Now, EA has announced that the reboot, NBA Elite 11 , has been canceled . The update came as part of EA's post-earnings conference call but the company wouldn't give any particulars about the cancellation; all they would say is that any future Elite titles would be handled by Madden developer EA Tiburon. NBA Elite 11 had been in the works at EA Canada. Analyst Michael Pachter had stated that the unfortunate delay would've cost EA around $60 million, and publisher Take-Two stands to make a killing in Elite 's absence.

Well, now that basketball aficionados know there is only one game that might satisfy their desire, they can just pick up NBA 2K11 . No worrying about whether or not they should wait.

Wow. EA's not putting out a basketball game AT ALL for 2011?? Who's making these bonehead decisions? Looks like we won't "get in the game" and they won't "get paid."

never imagined this would happen, however im glad it happened for EA.
The high pricing for their games @ $69.99 (plus tax, candian currency) is a sham.
MoH with such a short campaign was a rip off at the very same price.

I could see a chance of this happening and they really should of built upon Live '10 because I actually really enjoyed it. I wonder how happy the people are who bought the leaked copies on eBay. People were offering $1000 before the cancellation, imagine what they are worth now from a collectors point of view.

Jam rules!

Too bad the copy I got was a stupid dud. Didn't work on my Sega 16-bit. Oh well, at least I got to play it on computer shops….

I can't understand how a company can spend millions on a project, and it doesn't occur to them that it's going to be unreleasable until it's pretty much finished. I mean, no oversight during the development process, at one of their own development studios?

Well, I guess that was a rather expensive lesson.

Doesn't surprise me at all, good move by EA.
And with this out of the door, I want them to make an even greater B-ball game for 2012.

This isn't the first time EA canceled an NBA game. They canceled NBA Live 07 for the PlayStation 3.

NBA 2k11 is the greatest basketball game ever made for the greatest basketball player ever played the game. perfect fit!

I don't need an Elite 11 in addition, so never mind
