Ubisoft Won’t Commit To Assassin’s Creed III In 2011

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will arrive almost exactly one year after Assassin's Creed II , but the one-year gap between installments may or may not continue.

This past summer, Ubisoft associate producer Jean-Francois Boivin said Assassin's Creed III would not release in 2011 but now, Ubisoft senior international brand manager Eric Gallant said that was merely "personal opinion." Speaking to CVG , Gallant said that "details of everything related to the future of [ Assassin's Creed ] aren't known by everyone" and "not everyone is in the loop."

"There are a group of people making plans at a higher level of the organisation – they are the ones that make the decision about where we are going. There are things we are working on but I can't talk about it. That was misleading information, it was more of an expression of personal opinion, or observation."

You needn't worry about Ubisoft abandoning the franchise, though; that'd be just plain silly. With 19 million copies sold between the first two installments and higher Brotherhood pre-orders in comparison to either of those previous titles, AC is a huge money-maker for the publisher. And hey, we love it, too. As Gallant finished, "…we're always thinking about new ways of keeping our fans excited and into the brand, so there could be surprises…"

Brotherhood should be awesome but can it top the brilliance of ACII…?

I hope not. This game does not need to turn into a EA Sports title.

But people love the EA Sports titles.

@Alienage, the majority of people that love EA sports titles are:
1. People that love the sport
2. Casual/Non-Gamers (those ppl that buy a system just play sports games or buy the game because their friend has it)
3. Combination of the 2
4. Gamers that love the sport

yea their are other types of consumers but to me these are the majority, and there is way too many of number 2.

I wouldn't call gamers who play EA sports casual. Many have been around since the early days and just happen to enjoy that genre. Nothing casual about it.

What I want is a soccer game that 100% allows you to create your own transitions and plays on the field entirely depending on the situation.

@Alienage, That would be number 4 which there is indeed a lot of but I know too many people with just sports games… tis' a shame

Sports gamers are "casual" in that they only buy a few games a year, unlike most of the people here, but they do tend to play the cr*p out of those few games.

Of course, you can be a "traditional" gamer and still enjoy sports games and vice versa.

I can wait for them to spend extra time on development of AC3. I love the franchise, but they needn't rush things.

I'm just curious what time period they're thinking of doing next? I mean, there aren't a whole lot of areas left that feature such rich architecture and structures, are there? (Russia? Asia?)

Feudal Japan?
That would be quite an interesting era to play in. I wont be getting Brotherhood, but if they make a full* sequel i'll be all over it.

*What with recent games being little more than mods of the previous game? FO:NV is basically a FO3 mod, Brotherhood shares a ton of stuff with ACII…. It makes me appreciate studios like Naughty Dog, who build a game from the ground up instead of making Uncharted 2.5.

i hope that you play as Desmond in the third installment. I want to know how this all ends, let me play as the main assassin desmond going through and ripping the scientists an people after him to shreds. That is what im expecting but i've been let down before.

They need to really polish assassin's creed 3 and release it with an awesome ending to the series!

Think of it as what Vice City was to Grand Theft Auto III.

Brotherhood is a continuation of AC 2, so it's really AC 2.5.

So, what happened to Ubisoft's idea of releasing a title ineach of their major titles every year… Don't tell me that they're going to do another spin-off next year?
Peace.

I'd rather they broke a promise of releasing one major title a year and make us wait for AC 3 until its 100% prepared personally. The wait is well worth it for an amazing finished product. Id rather they didin't even to a spin-off and just continually worked on AC 3 until its done to be totally honest..

I believe Brotherhood is going to be better than AC2 gameplay wise…not sure about the story. But AC2 story (very good) wasn't the best thing in gaming so I believe Ubisoft can one up themselves. After GOWIII/Fall New Vegas, this is my most anticipated game this year. GOWIII dissapointed storywise…just wanted to say this. I mean MGS4 gave Snake one hell of a send off, expected the same for Kratos, but we got 'that' ending. The story was entertaing and the rap up at the end was needed, but the conclusion/ending (scene right before the credits) of the series needed more time to play out to give it meaning and to actually understand why this happened. I just felt like sayig this. GOWIII is the most entertaining SP game I ever played, but sadly I have no attachment to the core story like I had with the first. GOWI had the best storytelling in the series.

I would love to see it earlier but if we have to wait I don't mind. I thought ACII was an extremely vast improvement over ACI. ACII was much more vast and added so many more features to make it amazing though would have liked to see more out-of-animus gameplay (probably see mroe in ACIII). I'm really looking forward to the new title and hope Ubisoft keeps improving the series.

That its what I am intrigued by. Out of the Animus. What is Abstergos ultimate goal? Will we see a leap of faith off of the Empire State Building???

More time should equate to more quality. Is this becoming a trend? 1st Resistance and now this. As long as they dont get to GT5 development cycles then I am fine with it.

I remember seeing an AC teaser image months ago that implied an Egyptian setting. Could AC3 show us the origins of the Templar/Assassin secret war?

In other thoughts I personally am a little worried about the idea of a modern day setting for AC. Yeah, there could be some cool moments but would you really want to spend ten minutes (guesstimate) climbing up a sky scraper? And adding guns would transform the series into a third person shooter.

leaping off roofs landing on peoples backs stabbing them in the neck.
