Sony Ships 1 Million Move Units In The Western Territory

Although we didn't have exact numbers for the NPD Group's report for September, they did note that accessories were up 13%, and they attributed that increase to the freshly launched PlayStation Move.

Reports from Europe have been that retailers have had difficulty keeping the new motion-sensing tech in stock, and 1.5 million units had already been sold. But since the estimate that around 300,000 units had sold in North America during Move's first few weeks of availability, we haven't heard anything official. Until now: Sony has announced that they've shipped – shipped , not sold – 1 million Move units in the Western hemisphere (i.e., North America and Latin America). This is "in line" with analyst predictions that Move had a relatively modest launch, but SCEA president Jack Tretton says production is an issue: "We had to go back and increase production twice, we're absolutely maxed out right now," he told Reuters . As of now, there are no less than 24 Move games on the market and 16 more are planned to launch this fiscal year (before March 31, 2011).

So, are you on board with Move yet? We've looked at Sports Champions and EyePet for you, and a review for Time Crisis: Razing Storm is coming this weekend. Any other requests? …if there are, just stuff 'em in your shorts for now because we won't be free of crunch time for another month at least.

I'm interested in Move, but there really isn't anything I'm interested in playing on it for now. My upcoming games are Star Wars: TFU 2, Gran Turismo, then nothing till Dead Space 2. KZ3 will be the first new game that I would get that would be Move compatible…..and I just really don't see myself playing KZ3 with anything but the Dualshock.

I'll get Move eventually… I just don't know when.

We bought it on launch, and played the heck out of it for about a week or so.

My issue with it now is that games that like (IE – Fallout Vegas) are not supporting it. I did play the Lord of the Rings game last week with the Move though..

The Force Unleashed II needs to support Move and it does fast.

I'm not on board. My biggest complaint with the Wii (besides it being a Gamecube 1.5) is the motion controls. I'm not a fan of that style of control so regardless of how precise and "better" Move is over what the Wii offers I don't care.

Glad to see Sony having success with it, as long as it doesn't effect my standard gaming in any way.

I'm with you but I do say this- you should at least try Move. They might have it set up at a Best Buy near you.

You know I've been pretty vocal about my skepticism over the past year and while I still won't be dumping a lot of hours into Move titles, I'm still pretty impressed.

I'll end up doing what I've done with the Wii. I have several friends with Wiis and it can provide some fun during parties. One of them recently picked up the Move bundle so I'll check it out and enjoy it for what it is in my eyes, a good party gaming accessory.

Unless I can use Move while sitting down, due to lack of room for standing, I won't be getting Move anytime soon. Also I think I'd just prefer using my DS3 controller. Happy to see that people who have bought into Move, are at least happy with their purchase! For me, motion sensing tech just doesn't float my boat!

Good thing that accessible couch-gaming is one of the main draws for Move. I AM going to get Move, it's just a matter of having enough money to spend a little extra on gaming… I haven't bought anything gaming-wise in months. Otherwise I'd already have Move and be enjoying it.

That Time Crisis: Razing Storm looks interesting, especially seeing how there's 2 more different games on the disc, besides just TC:RS, a pirate game and a….. (ah damn, I just forgot what the 3rd game is).

i personally do not want to use motion controllers when im playing video games, when im gaming im playing for relaxment/fun or just hanging out and talking to freinds… i just dont like the whole idea of using motion controllers while gaming! besides contollers allow you to make more sudden and percise movements

im gonna say this right now, i play every single move game sitting down. even the bowling. provided i sit in my office chair i have the room for the down motion.

You prefer it to standing? Doesn't it kinda take away from the whole "realism" the Move is attempting to offer?

You also won't do as well for certain games. You just can't get away with it all the time like you can with the Wii.

Wow… that's a lot. And if demand is keeping up with supply, I think that we'll be seeing those early estimates smashed. This kind of makes me worry about how well the Kinect will sell though. Given that M$ are hyping it as a revolution, it'll go gangbusters because people are silly enough to buy into it.

I say, good for Sony, now show us what this is truly capable of, and give us a bona fide reason to own it, and not just excuses. (I assure you that that made more sense in my head than it seems to there)
Peace.

P.S. Ben, error in the quote. You spelt go wrong.

Anyone else get the feeling John's just Ben's alter ego that comes out on certain week nights?

My bad… I keep forgetting to read the names. I'll shut up for a while.

LV,
Yeah, maybe he should start doing the occasional editorial. That'll make him feel more like a real person, and as such, a bit more identifiable.

Peace and Sorrow.

Give it time my friend. I have no doubt that Sony has some tricks up their sleeve for next year's titles. Sony has a notorious reputation for doing a poor job at showcasing launch titles.
I have complete faith that Little Big Planet 2 will incorporate Move controls in a VERY good way, a la Mario Galaxy.
I will buy "The Fight" and/or Time Crisis if the reviews are good (8 or higher) and I can get them on sale.
Next year's Tiger Woods game should be pretty good as well.
The Move game I'm looking most forward to is Sorcery though.
Impressive tech, but not much use for anything else at this point.

i know, come next year theres pleanty using move.
socom 4 and sorcery look the best so far.
but it was a massive waste buying it now, i could of waited till next year bought it when KZ3 came out and 50 bucks says it would of been 20 or so bucks cheaper.
i cant understand sonys logic, they are thick as mules!
they released the ps3 with a crap lineup, it sold poorly.
they released the PSP with a poor launch line up (most games were not available on PSN at release, still aren't).
so you think they would of learned there lesson with the move?
look at kinect theres heaps of launch games releasing for that.
theres so many games i want for it, kinect joy ride looks really cool, kinect adventures looks like a lot of fun just to name a few.
if i remember right this years harry potter game has move support, so will tron evolution so i guess they will have to do.

I think I've seen 3 or 4 commercials for the Move on TV. Granted I watch very little TV, but during the same time period I've probably seen 20+ commercials for other video game products. Sony needs to realize that if you don't advertise the hell out of something, about 95% of the general public won't even know it exists.

I haven't bought it yet. Sort of plan to, some day. I guess the turnoff is that some games need one Move controller, some need two, some need a Move plus a nav controller. And with all that stuff you probably should get a charging station. And of course the camera and the little clip to hold it on top of the TV. That's runs into a fair bit of money, and I haven't even played Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, or God of War 3 yet. Not to mention the huge slug of really exciting non-Move games coming out over the next few months.

So, Sony is already on course to have sold (literally) millions of Move units by the time Kinect launches?

I'm actually really impressed by the sales of Move so far, it will sell sufficiently well by the end of the Holiday season to earn a permanent place in the market, and a large enough audience to justify game development for it. Well done by Sony getting it to grow that quickly. As long as they can keep pushing *good* games on it, it will continue to drive purchases.

As for all those pre-launch, E3 comments by A.N.Other game console maker? What say ye Mr. Microsoft spin-meister? Someone needs to review the claims made by the usual MS spin merchants. All those statements about how Kinect was going to sell millions and Move would do next to nothing. Of course that was back when Kinect was coming out before Move. Before Kinect's feature set was eviscerated by cost cutting. *AND* before the actual price of Kinect was known.

I'm having a bad case of the "I hate Microsoft" blues this week, can you tell?
