Think PlayStation Move and Microsoft's Kinect are just passing fads? Some overblown Wii envy that will soon…blow over?
Ubisoft doesn't think so. According to CVG citing MCV, the publisher's CEO, Yves Guillemot, doesn't want to talk about who will "win" the motion war, but he does believe both will be around for a long time. He does, however, say he thinks one piece of technology will take the sales crown in the US, and the other in Europe. He doesn't specify which is which but I think we all know the answer to that, especially after early sales results for Move, and the common knowledge that this country is Microsoft's best territory.
Anyway, Ubisoft will be supporting both, for both this generation and next. Said Guillemot:
"… It's not just an investment in this generation, it's building the next one too. The next generation of console will automatically use all of these motion-sensing innovations and so a lot more people will be able to play with the next generation of consoles."
So the next round of consoles will come with Move and Kinect capability, eh? That sounds about right, considering the size of the respective investments, and it has been rumored that Microsoft will drop a gigantic chunk of change to promote Kinect. Sony has been advertising Move as well, and the result is 1.5 million units sold in Europe during its first month of availability, and perhaps around 500,000 in the US (there were 300,000 in the first two weeks). Microsoft intends to sell 3 million Kinect units this holiday season.
So knowing this, maybe you want to wait for the next generation of consoles before "moving" about? …nah, that's too far off, right?
