I don't know if you've heard, but Final Fantasy XIV – currently only available on PC – is…well, sorta broken.
Depending on the source, the game is averaging about a 4 or 5 for an overall review score, which isn't only well below Square-Enix standards; it's well below anyone's standards. The problems seem to be severe and numerous and the response has reached the developer. Their reaction? Well, it's kind of like someone took all the wind out of their sails; they're obviously a little embarrassed and they've offered to extend the free trial . They also issued the following statement:
"We would like to assure players that the world of FINAL FANTASY XIV is constantly growing and evolving, and the voices of the community are essential to that process. The development and management teams are carefully considering all player feedback, and working diligently to implement whatever changes and additions will serve to make Eorzea a better home for adventurers. We humbly ask for your continued support to this end."
The game is supposed to show up on the PlayStation 3 at some point, but evidently, certain problems meant that a simultaneous launch was out of the question. …maybe they didn't erase those problems in the PC version, either. The point is, things are looking bleak for the game, but might PS3 owners have a glimmer of hope? As noted by Wrecked Gamer , all this backlash might be a good thing. The developers know a lot of things are wrong and in turn, they wouldn't release the same shoddy product on the PS3, right…?
They have time to fix the issues and are well aware of what happens if they don't. Personally, I don't do MMOs and I don't care if the game ever shows up, but I know fans of the genre don't want to be disappointed. Maybe we could be optimistic about this…

WOW!! This is a drive down memory lane.. Didn't we just discuss the significance of beta input?! It sounds like this game is a tangled web of trouble. First question; How did this hit the market?! Has S-E lost their faithful employees after ruining the last game by creating an Xbox port?!
Oh, back to reality… I doubt this game will be cured by the time the PS3 version is expected. In fact, I'd put money on the mission being aborted so that their crew can cast their attention to an FFVII remake.
Now, I know I sound CRAZY but here's the deal. These guys and gals need a project like that to get a frickin' clue. Maybe this is the problem? Maybe, just maybe, these devs aren't quite aware of what an FF piece should be. Maybe remaking the poster child of the FF series will spark some ingenuity the series has grown to miss/mess up/lack.
I've only read the PC review on Gamespot and I must say… The experience they depict sounds like the only fix is re-releasing the game, on media, with an pretty much overhauled system. No?
"They have time to fix the issues and are well aware of what happens if they don't."
Same EXACT issues with FFXI. Too many broken issues that went on with FFXI for YEARS while SE did nothing about them.
I haven't played FFXIV myself, but I read in one of the reviews there wasn't actually a good auction house system yet.
Same ****, different day with this game.
Voices were apparently not listened to in Beta. Why should SE by listening to people now. For that matter with anything.
its $E so dont hold your breath!
This is just sad Squeenix…
Stopped playing after FF 10 x2 , sure i bought some of the games after hoping for a return to the old FF ways but i was disapointed everytime…
They already released a huge statement/interview online about fixing every single issue with this game including the interface, lack of quests/monsters, lack of general direction, lag, etc. This, to me, seems like the PC game was simply an extended beta and they lied to fans. They're at least giving people who bought another free month to play up until the huge patch they're talking about at some point in December. By the time the game comes out for the PS3, there will have been two massive updates(they plan on them every 3 months) and I have no doubt the game will be fine. People seem to forget that a lot of people hated on FFXI too, but it is still running and, at one point, had the second largest worldwide community only below WoW.
