Medal Of Honor Sells 1.5 Million, EA Gives Away DLC

The NPD Group doesn't report exact figures for specific software or hardware products anymore, so the it's up to the publishers.

Well, if your game is doing well, wouldn't you wanna brag? According to GameSpot , EA has revealed that Medal of Honor has already surpassed 1.5 million in worldwide sales…and it only took five days of availability to hit that number. It sold especially well in the UK where it topped the Gfk-ChartTrack list. Furthermore, EA has offered details on new benefits for those holding the necessary Online Pass: PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners who bought the game (or bought it used and paid $10 for that Pass) will be able to grab a new Clean Sweep mode for multiplayer come November 2. It's a "team-based elimination mode that will be playable on two all-new maps (Bagram Hangar and Kyber Caves) and two redesigned maps (Diwagal Camp and Kabul City Ruins)." And yeah, it's free. After suffering through a lot of backlash for including the Taliban as a playable side in the multiplayer action, EA removed the reference and opted to call the enemy the "opposing force."

The game has also seen some lukewarm reception from the critics. But none of this seems to have had a negative impact on sales, which we kinda like, 'cuz we still say this reboot is significantly underrated .

To those that have played it (I'm pretty sure I've seen you playing it on the PSN Jawk) what do you think?

Pretty good FPS on its own, LV. It's quite addicting. I'm now level 10 rifleman, 5 spec ops and 11 sniper. The satisfaction of the snipe is much better here (probably due to the sweet crunching sound of getting the bullet off the chamber).

Still haven't done the SP, but currently playing the add-on Frontline (man, they didn't do much about Frontline. The sound is at times broken, I hear crackling and static and sometimes there's no sound. hit collision isn't too great, I played Rising Sun and had plenty good times there)

very good indeed. theres a time and place for playing a Hollywood type of war FPS, and MoH isn't it, this is about the guys who do this for real and quite frankly what they do in reality Hollywood couldn't touch.

Danger Close have done a superb job, as well as DICE for the MP. But in order to see this, you have to play the game to a finish (lol, not that hard seeing its as short as MW2) and just remember…. THIS ISNT COD!!

that last point is important because a lot of people forgot that.. :-/

I do like it a bit more now than i did when i first started playing it. The campaign started to get fun just before it ended. Should have been longer. The multiplayer is fun but hard to see whats going on at times. I have enjoyed the objective based modes more than deathmatch and the guns look pretty cool. Its not a bad game, but Bad Company 2 still reigns supreme.

I thought it was pretty good. It had great characters you could connect to and an great realism feel to it. Hopefully for the next one (please be a next one) they add about 5 or 7 more hours worth of SP campaign and fix all the glitches and bugs and they will probably have one of the best fps ever made.

The game to me is pretty awesome! And LV the auto aim is very slight in te campaign and don't even exist in the mp lol! Figured u would wanna know that!

Anyways the campaign for me was great! I really was looking forward to a long campaign, considering the two teams working on the game but alas the mp is downright awesome!

I know jawknee likes bf:bc2 more so but I think moh takes the nod in the mp! And to me the campaign was more meaningful! Both good games though just for me the mp is grabbing me more! But who am I to say I like modern warfare 2 also! 😉
But if it's any consolation I am having more fun with moh mp than mw2 lol so…

But really the sounds of the guns are spot on, which makes the game much more authentic feeling and grabs you more so. And as jawknee said they look and act like a real gun, as in the recoil is pretty good!

Also your rewarded for doing things in game rather than killstreaks! Which makes the game so much more fun and their is far less campers! U have to get points built up to call in offensive support like mortars and missiles, as well as defensive support, flak jackets and uavs! Makes everyone actually try and achieve the objective! Also is it me or is their far less trash talking in medalmof honor?!?! Havnt been bothered by it once!

Anyways great game!

Medal of honor is great both single and multiplayer. even though tier 1 mode is challenging its great. i wish they increased the point limits on the game modes though because sometimes the games end pretty quickly.

my suggestion is to wait till black ops to play multiplayer though so they can move on. theres a lot of people playing it like call of duty like getting in each others way just to get the kills. it just doesnt fit well with the size of the maps. there are also a lot of snipers. kinda pissed me off at first until i adjusted and found relatively safe passages.

@bigrailer
wow, i wish i was playing the games you were. i run into a lot of campers, although less than in mw2. mostly snipers though. most of the maps are a snipers haven. sometimes they dont even need to move far from their spawn points. what i was disappointed at was that reaching the max level only gave you an extra grenade. also i wish we were given the choice whether we use smoke or frag grenades instead of just having smoke for riflemen and frag for the other classes because the grenade launcher is pretty useless.

johnld, spot on the snipe comment. Most of the spawn points are out in the open, leaving people open for snipers. And agree on the grenade launchers–I think I've fired off more than 100 shots but only killed 2 or 3. Even some close-to-direct hits don't do lethal damage. Splash damage area is too small; and coming to that, the grenade damage area is a bit small than I expected. They really should fix those spawn points and damage splash..

Eh….It's not too bad. The single player is great, story should have been longer as others have said. The multiplayer is OK but i am used to the CoD set up. I still need some adjusting, i hate that everyone is playing it none stop, where everyone has the max weapons an i dont even stand much of a chance. It's BS, spawning is a huge issue but i see it was talked about. Cant tell where i get shot from over half the time. Makes me wanna throw this game in the trash….but other then that the games alright. outta 10…i give it 6.9. Probably gonna use it for another game within the next few weeks. maybe Naruto or Force Unleashed II

The Tier 1 mode is pretty hard, buts lots of fun (I finally beat it this morning). Its just as addicting as the campaign.

Bigrailer, auto aim does exist in the multiplayer. There is an option to turn it off and on. I also noticed when an enemy runs past you, your gun will follow him automatically for a split second. Auto aim is there. Trust me.

bigrailer19
bigrailer19

Sorry jawknee didn't ever notice, I guess I'm always moving my Sticks so it doesn't have a chance to follow! I will say in the sp I notice if your cross hairs are pointed at an enemy an you zoom it goes to him. But again
In the mp I never notice it where as in mw2 it's very relevant that it's there, which is a complaint for LV!

With that said if you can turn it on or off this conversation is pointless lol! I really appreciate that option, as should LV considering he's not an auto aim fan! Nor am I!

Jawknee

Sucks though because even if i turn it off that doesn't mean everyone else in the room has it turned off.

Though I think Hardcore mode forces everyone to have it turned off.

EDIT: No need to apologize. lol, i wasn't reprimanding you, just correcting the record.

Yeah you have a point! I havn't tried much hardcore, which is normally what I like. But I think your right that it forces you to have it off.

Oh thats alright I just didnt notice it that much, and I was wrong and thought it didn't exist in the mp. But at least there is an option which I may already have off which is why I dont notice it lol!

Hopefully this is a trend-starter in free DLC. Maybe i'm spoiled from playing a lot of PC games, but i'm just used to addons being free. I guess thats why i only buy exclusives for my ps3.

actually its probably DICE's way of doing things. they gave away map packs for bad company 2 for vip owners. although it was just unlocking modes for different existing maps.

Good for the franchise. My first and only war franchise for up until COD the Big Red One.

Gameplay looks tight but I was under the impression the multiplayer would be more realistic. Still seems better than MW online though. More excited about single player though!

Don't u mean better than MW2? cause the multiplayer was so messed up, good single player and spec ops mode though. Well I don't know about MW cause I haven't played MOH yet.

I find it interesting that many of the features the CallofDuty series and now MoH are implementing in their MP have been stapes of the Counterstrike community for nearly a decade.

Yes, I hope it will keep selling very well and sell really well for the holidays. If MOH sells 1.5mill in 5 days, How much will black ops sell?
MOH is way underrated and the COD franchise is way overrated

Alienange,

Um there is no way I'm shelling out $60 for every game I intend on playing. Honestly unless you're rich it's stupid to buy every game new at $60 when you can find it used a month later for half the price.

Me, I like to buy new a month later for half the price.

Please, there is no way a majority of the GREAT/GOOD games released drop by half a price for new within a month.

When a new game drops by half the price within a month it's because the game sucks, thus no point in buying it new.

@world
if you buy it new, you dont need to pay for it. but given that the game just came out, gamestop usually prices used games for 5 bucks less. 5 bucks, why buy it used just to save 5 bucks? I'm sure you can find a place that would sell it for 5 to 10 bucks cheaper new.

BTW, did anybody find the game to be a bit unstable on launch model PS3s? The game made my PS3 very noisy. I also wished they Frontlines on a separate disc; you can't choose which game to play unless you turn of the auto-start.

Simcoe

I have a launch system too and while I find the SP game fairly stable, I've had many issues with stability for the MP game. There have been many times (more than I can count on both hand) where the game has frozen, sometimes after two or three seconds it resumes other times I have to reboot the system.
Also, I'm not pleased that Frontlines stays in the "Game" section of the XMB when the MoH disc is not loaded but yet still needs the MoH disc to play. And if it still needs the MoH disc to play, why did we have to install a 4.5 GB game onto our HDD? While I appreciate the extra game included, I think it could have been handled better.

A bit of a catch 22 if you ask me. They should have taken the time to really perfect their game but if they had, they'd be releasing it alongside New Vegas, Brotherhood and Black Ops.

Totally agree, it had to be released before CoD to be able to gain the market share and sales numbers reported above.

Here you have one publisher being thankful and gives out free DLC.

On the other hand, Activision are not one bit grateful to the fans and they charge them $15 for 5 friggin' map which of 2 are reused.

It doesn't matter, their costumers will gladly pay that $15. They're fools.

From what Ive read, everyone (except this cod hating site) said that MoH sucked massive balls. IGN gave it a mid-6 for gods sake! Why would anyone (apart from this site) buy this over Black Ops? Bad company 2 was better!

coz we trust the opinion of this site? to clarify, this community does not hate cod. it hates games who offer little innovation when a sequel comes up. it just so happens that MW2 falls into that (as well as GH). But hey, W@W, you don't see anyone saying that many bad stuff on that did you?

and personally, I'll be purchasing Black Ops when it comes out, coz those types of games are a release for me. but whether it stays on my library or not, depends on my satisfaction with the game (of which I've outgrew with MW2 so I sold my copy)

dillonthebunny

yeah IGN is DA man huh, they great :-/

out of 40 reviews, 7 gave it a 6/10 that means 33 review sites and mags gave it a higher mark than 6/10.

hell, even The Edge gave it a 7! lol… that for me was the most amusing thing Ive seen in a while, they liked it.. in fact a lot of people liked it.

but some people just believe that COD is the best darn game ever, some people are very one dimensional and fear change, I believe that even though this industry survives through change, people fear it as much as they need it.

so although MoH is bloody good, some just couldn't stop saying to themselves while writing reviews "well, cod wouldn't of done it that way " or "hmmm, where's the nukes and stealth bombers?? wtf" and "…why the hell dont I have 60 weapons, and why do snipers keep killing me, whut the hell is going on!"

i believe this to be true. IGN review (the Video review is the one I saw) was terrible, that man went in to this game with a total preconception of what he was going to accept and nothing else. very rigid

but you know, maybe we shouldn't believe everything we read, after all a review is just one persons 'educated' opinion, it really doesn't mean anything at the end of the day. we use these opinions to form a decision on what we want to do next. if we only listened to one opinion ..that would be pretty dumb.. no?
