They're two of Capcom's most beloved franchises…or at least, they were. The question is whether or not we'll ever see them again.
Fans want to know: what happened to Onimusha and Dino Crisis ? Will they ever come back? Well, Capcom VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development Christian Svennson told IGN that the franchises aren't dead; the company is just trying to figure out how to bring them back for "modern day gamers." Said Svensson:
"Onimusha is tricky in particular given how Japanese-focused the franchise has been. When you look at the timing and sales trend of how Onimusha has gone each outing – I won't give you the exact numbers, but let's just say every outing subsequently has been about 60% of the prior – the brand doesn't right now have quite the resilience that you might think."
He pointed out that while the first two Onimusha titles were very successful; the last two…"not so much." He did admit an announcement might be coming soon, though, as the Onimusha name is "percolating" at the company. As for Dino Crisis , he says it has come up in several discussions but thus far, nobody has figured out a good way to bring it back.
"Dino Crisis 3 I think is where it went off the rails if I recall. Dino Crisis' success really was an out cropping of Resident Evil 1 and 2. There are discussions, Dino Crisis comes up from time to time, but there isn't any burning desire from R&D or the business side to light that franchise back up again. Until there's an internal champion with something incredible, things just sort of sit there."
Svensson added that the the pre-rendered backgrounds and tank controls probably wouldn't go over well today. Well, yeah, we could've told you that. Still, we definitely want to see another Onimusha . Figure it out, Capcom.
they were 2 of capcoms best, especially Onimusha.
id love to see a new one with move support.
the last dino crysis sucked donkey balls!
not really interested in a new one, unless there actually going to be bothered putting the effort in.
its a market they have to themselves, theres not many other dinosaur shooting games so you would think they would be all over it.
I want both franchises back. Read in another forum (IGN Ignorant Gaming Network) some idiot said it's simple just make Onimusha a God of War clone. That's a dumb idea considering the combat in Onimusha already rocked. Leave the combat alone just soup up the graphics, which should not be that hard considering Onimusha had some of the best graphics for its time. Now Dino Crisis might be a tougher nut to crack considering how it kind of abandoned its origins in Dino Crisis 3 which was fun but should have been named Space Dinos. They should just remake part 1, but beef up the story, graphics, and voice overs. Hell they already have the game engine (Resident Evil 5) that could work great with both games. As long as they stick with Onimushas combat and keep Dino Crisis on Earth both would be great! Oh yeah bring Regina back damnit! Google Dino Crisis petition they have had them for awhile now. My favorite has to be this one. I know whoever wrote this needs to go back to school not to mention the fact Capcom does not make Metal Gear Solid LOL. Here it is (By the present petition, we want to ask to make a Dino Crisis 4 but continuing the story of Dino Crisis 1 and 2, because the third version cutted the storyline and every games keep a line… So We, The Dino Crisis Fans, are waiting for some new marvelous release that keeps the spirit of this game. You did the Great Metal Gear Series now please, develop a new DC for all that are waiting this game.
We want to see Regina and Dylan Again… And what was the fate of Paula.
Thanks to all the team whom made possible this fantasy of Dino Crisis.) I'm thinking whoever wrote that particular petition was either drunk, foreign, or really needs to go back to school.
This is pure speculation on my part, and I may catch some flak for it, but I think one of the main reasons we haven't seen a DinoCrisis game in so long is because there isn't anything for Capcom to piggy back off of. When DC1 and 2 hit dinosaurs were still pretty relevant in the collective psyche of our societies. Jurassic Park had hit six years earlier, and the sequel two years before the first Dino Crisis. The novels were also really fresh in our minds and that's not to mention all the Jurassic Park related info. Since then, however, and thanks to a horrible third movie, dinosaurs and Jurassic Park have fallen off the map.
That's not me saying that DC and Capcom ripped off Michael Crichton's books or the films, but they were heavily influenced by them. Right down to the biological and morphological inaccuracies of certain dinosaur species. Like the velociraptor.
Maybe if the fourth film ever gets out of development hell and gets made — and is actually good — Capcom will change their minds.
Onimusha3 wasn't that Japan-focused given that half the game took place in modern day Paris and had Jean Reno.
This is great news. Onimusha was always my favourite hack'n'slash adventure series, and the franchise I have missed more than any other this gen. I guess it sits in the middle-ground, half way between the hardcore territory of Ninja Gaiden and the pick up and play badassery of God of War.
Needless to say, it's Japanesness was always part of the appeal to me, but this fact would just be lost on Capcom.
Wasn't that Inafune jerk recently heard to laugh condescendingly at suggestions Onimusha be bought back?
Hopefully the fact that Inafune (the guy who doesn't even like making videogames) is being flatly contradicted by other dudes at Capcom means his authority and status at the company is being the undermined.
The sooner Capcom ditch him, the better for all who love games
Some more Capcom news by the way –
You recall a few weeks back news came out about a collaboration between Capcom and Level-5, and everyone was guessing like hell what this might be.
I speculated that it would be a Professor Layton / Phoenix Wright crossover on the 3DS, and it turns out I was right, as it has just been announced by Level-5
So, maybe not such a big deal and nothing to get PS3 owners excited, but pretty good if you are into puzzle solving / crime investigating mash ups on the latest hand held
actually, both of those franchises are pretty entertaining and have a lot of charm. It's the sort of thing I would definately buy on PSN download
Don't kno if it's just me but i like the first 3 onimushas games and i also loved Dino crisis…don't kno… something about a sexy chick slaughtering dinos that's just awesome
I never played the Dino Crisis games, but I understand the sentiment.
Its the same with Resi Evil games. Sexy chicks decapitating zombies with the shotgun is spot on
I love Onimusha, but can't get too exited for it till I see some trailers. Knowing Crapcom they will probably hand the development over to Ninja Theory so they can turn the protagonist into a twilight looking pretty boy!
DAMN YOU CAPCOM!

You're referring to the DMC game right , I'm going to disagree with whole twilight/pretty boy comparison, I don't know what you guys were looking at in that trailer but from my stand point the original Dante was more of a pretty boy emo more then the new one is.
You need too get your eyes checked homeboy! I respect your opinion, but I think the majority of DMC fans would disagree with your opinion. I think most fans are seeing what I'm seeing with the new Dante.
I need too get my eyes checked…No you're one who needs they're eyes checked & I don't care if the fanboys disagree & of course they're gonna disagree they're fanboys that's what to be expected, so you're telling me all white hair, sky blue eyes and long red leather jacket, & knee high boots doesn't qualify as a metro-sexual pretty boy, cmon on homie that's so typical anime-ish, looks to me like someone needs glasses & it ain't me either I see just fine "HOMEBOY."
It wasn't his looks that made him a so-called bad-ass in the first place it was his persona.

Style and looks are part of a characters persona. Fans of the series like Dante the way he is and don't care for something that's not broke to be fixed. I see where your coming from but still believe the original Dante is the better of the two. I'll just agree to disagree.

Point Taken. But people can't speculate about the old version of Dante being better than the new one based solely on looks alone they got to wait for gameplay which will make or break this new game. Now Ninja Theory isn't known for it's gameplay in fact I'd say between the two games they've made that's something that they've been lacking, but I like what Tameem Antoniades said in a Interview he said that "one thing that gets me about the DMC games is that you do all kinds of cool stuff in the cutscenes but you couldn't be that cool when it came to actually gameplay of the game, we want to make the gameplay like that" that's a statement I'll have to agree with I mean look at how cool the cutscenes were in both DMC3&4 but you couldn't do any of that stuff in the actually game itself. As far as storyline goes if it's one thing that Ninja Theory does do right it's story telling so I'm not all that worried about how the story will turn out. I just wish people would jump the gun so much before seeing more.

I meant to say wouldn't jump the gun so much before seeing more, instead would.
They'll reboot Onimusha with a mentally deranged protagonist in the Dark Knight art stylization powered by the Unreal Engine 3.
That would actually turn out to be a good game if the made right.

Loved all onimusha , even now they are great fun .
If they ever make another dino crisis i want it to be like dc 2 .Loved the non stop action and doing some chains for maximum point that you could use to buy stuff .All that game needed to make it perfect was maybe 2 hour more in another island or complex .
As a side note i must say that I never had anything against tank control/pre-rendered background and never will .
If capcom does decide to remake onimusha make focus on japan and please remake dino crisis especially Dino crisis since went in different direction didn't have old feeling of previous two Dino crisis games that fans fell in love with and I haven't play the onimusha series.
Yesss Onimusha 1 was siiick.
And Dino Crisis creeped me out as a 6 year old.
