Yamauchi Apologizes, GT5 2010 Release Probable

Yesterday, we learned that Gran Turismo 5 had once again been hit with another delay .

Today, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has apologized – twice – via his personal Twitter page, and as translated at Andriasang . Sony only said the game was delayed and that it would still arrive for "the holiday season;" Yamauchi added a brief reason for the delay. Apparently, it's taking the team more time "to finalize some of the game's more complicated systems." Then, after apologizing again, he asked gamers to "wait a bit more." When someone begged him to release the game before the end of the year, Yamauchi responded with- "I believe we won't keep you waiting until then." Based on everything we've seen and heard so far, we'd guess that GT5 had slipped 3-4 weeks and will launch the week following Black Friday, or the first week of December. That would be fine, as it still lands squarely in the holiday season. Some had worried that "holiday" could extend beyond December 31, 2010, depending on your definition of the term, but it appears we don't have to worry about that.

They said we'd have a new date before the end of this month, so stay tuned. We'll just take a shot in the dark and say it'll be December 1.

There is some suggestion that the delay was due to Sony mandating that the game be built with SDK 3.5.

Could it be that Sony added some sooper sekret sauce to the 3.5 SDK (and 3.5 firmware) to help combat piracy? 3D was already in the firmware/SDK with previous versions.

Either way anything that delays the final delivery of the game to manufacture could lead to a longer delay delivering the finished game discs.

Here's hoping GT5 nails it. Cause so far this gen, games that have taken forever haven't really lived up to the hype, examples : Final Fantasy 13, God Of War 3, Tekken 6.

It's rather games that came fast like GTAIV, MW, Uncharted, Bioshock, MGS4 among others. Some of those even had 2nd iterations which were also successful like, MW2, Uncharted 2, Bioshock 2 and you could say Red Dead Redemption is filling GTAV's void and it's doing it very well.

Enough with the delays, it could really hurt them a bit as I was soooo interested in GT5 this time last year, only to hear it gets postponed to early 2010, now it's late 2010 and yet another delay, I dunno am just annoyed!

Does anyone remember when He said he could release it now? When was that 2006.

Man, that's gotta be pretty embarrassing for them. Thankfully, we all know the game will be great. And I already have it pegged for my GotY. It just has to deliver on it's promises and I think it'll achieve that pretty easily.

although delays are frustrating they just mean that they are taking this game very seriously and trying to perfect it… many people say that this game should have come out years ago. i dasagree i would rather wait a while and have a total masterpeice once the game is released for good then have a rushed game thats full of bugs coulda been better and just a better overall game… trust me it will be worth the wait once its finally here!

I agree that quality comes first. But I think they themselves even admitted that the ground work for this game got started too late. Really, over 4 years for a true GT sequel is a pretty long span for Sony's best selling franchise that helped sell through Playstations for the last 2 console generations.
Today, I believe it's still huge, and it will probably sell better now, but I think Sony could've used a few more AAA games during their first 2-3 years on the market. Quite honestly, the only reason I started playing Forza 3 was because their wasn't a GT to fill the void.

When you compare GT5 Prologue to the latest Best Buy GT5 demo it's so obvious how much better GT5 is at the moment.

The leap in quality and overall polish is mesmerizing.

I feel for Kazunori Yamauchi as this must be embarrassing. Even more so if sales end up being lackluster or the gaming experience to say the least.

If perfection is key than why is the cockpit view only for premium cars and not every car. How can you have a simulator and have to drive with a bumper cam view? I've already pre-ordered this game, but it is sad to think it took all this time and you don't get the full sim.

there will be a cockpit view with all cars just the premium cars will be a lot more detailed. That's what I herd from Ben actually

I hope for a 3-4 week delay but I'll be happy with what ever poly is comfortable with, as long as it is out before Christmas. I Wish it would be a 1 week delay so I'll have something to do once the football season is over. that's why I liked the nov. 2, my last game is on the 8th.
Come on Poly polish this beasty perfection and get it out to us. I am looking forward to those long sleepless nights.

Apparently the delay is due to piracy concerns.

That would almost be justified, if it weren't for the fact that right now the PS3 can't run ISO's from its hard drive.

the delay is due to piracy concerns.
ever since the devices released sony mandated that every game releasing after october 10th had to run on the latest FW, why MoH is the first game that requires it, and is why GT5 was delayed they have to go back and recompile it with the latest SDKs.

oh well, im happy this saves me 450 bucks!

Well I'm not 1 bit tech-savvy, so if that's the reason, that doesn't mean that anyone with a FW update lower than the 3.50 can't go online & play it, does it????

I can't imagine Sony & PD hurting their fans who haven't currently updated.

___________
___________

no, it does not mean if you have lower than 3.50 you cant play online.
it means if you have lower than 3.50 you cant play the game at all!
it will tell you that you must update the FW to play it.

this will piss allot of people off, and i can see sony getting sued for it.
nowhere when people bought the ps3, did it say you must have a net connection to play the games you buy.
only time will tell.
sony were forcing people to choose between linux or PSN support.
now there forcing people to choose between games or linux.
sony have lost there grace, they use to at least act like they cared about there fans.
now its quite crystal clear they dont!

This is actually something that has happened with other games in the past, and will continue to happen. Certain games – for example, use more memory than is available under older firmware revisions, and so they require a newer revision so that the appropriate system memory is free. Sony has made many advances in their firmware increasing the amount of memory for games with each revision.

There may be another reason with firmware 3.5 to mandate firmware 3.5, but it's not correct to say this has never been done before, or is somehow a slight against GT5 fans in general, it's not.

My Anonymous cowherd, your reaction is just way out there my friend. Many games have minimum firmware requirements for various reasons. Games that use 3D will require specific firmware. Games that allow the use of music from the HDD require a particular firmware. This is normal, and has always been a fact of life with games on the PS3 and other consoles. Don't act otherwise, that's just plain dishonest.

I could have made a damn perfect game in the time it's taking. 2 yes ago I could have been enjoying a game and now still nothing. You dont think if Forza or any other game took this long it wouldn't be amazing? The cars still feel plastic. The damage models are not good! (check even codemasters Grid or Dirt for damage). The racing lines look childish (blue with no arrows or yellow to slow down if u don't know the track). No rewind for the amatuers. And sounds, tire screech and smoke from 2005. It's too big and takes too long to model, physic, sound, damage, mod, and detail 900 cars. He figured this out 7 years ago. It's his last GT game, so he wants it perfect. You need 20 years and unlimited money for that. Not cost effective anymore. Also, regular cars will have NO cockpit view???? Are u kidding? And some cars no interior back view!!! JEEZ!!! Judt put it out and it will be very above average and that's it. There is no shake or G-force rble to the cockpit view, no sense of weight or feel either but at least better than Forza. Have u ever driven a super car around a track? Let alone a full on racing car…your teeth will fall out. So give us you 90% perfect sim/arcade game already!!
