We all know Red Dead Redemption warrants a sequel. And maybe the guys at Rockstar San Diego are already cranking on one…
SystemLink stumbled upon the personal website/resume of Rockstar San Diego Senior Environment Artist, Jason Muck . As you can see, it says the Rockstar team has been working on a "AAA unannounced title for PS3 and Xbox 360" since June. Some are thinking it might be the new Grand Theft Auto , but we're pretty sure another Rockstar team has been working on that since long before June. So maybe it's another Midnight Club , or something. But then again, wouldn't it make far more sense to get cranking on a sequel to an automatic Game of the Year contender? And wouldn't it make even more sense to use the same Environment Artist? The evidence might be piling up for an early 2011 announcement of the next Red Dead title; if we're lucky, maybe more info will slip before this year is out. And speaking of GTAV, we do expect to see some sort of unofficial unveiling in the first quarter of next year…no reason to predict that, really. Jut a feeling.
RDR was great and we have no doubt that a sequel will be great, too. What would you like to see in the new game?
Yes! I Really want a NEW GTA!
Ugh, I need to finish the 1st one. During my summer of VERY little game playing I let a friend borrow the game after only putting a few hrs into it and he still hasn't given it back.
He probably snickers at you everytime he pops in the game.
That's alright, his gf is ugly.
I lol'd at that comment about his girlfriend.
LOL @ LV
Buzz! Your Girlfriend… Woof!
I need to finish the first one too. I don't think I'll preorder the next one though, while a sweet game, I'm tiring of the GTA formula.
I say DO SOMETHING about Agent, then make another game. That said, I'd like to see another Bully or a much more realistic and story driven next gen State of Emergency.
Bully set in college would great and Rockstar give me a new GTA soon.
Is anyone else getting tired of the GTA style? It's hard for me to get into that kind of game.
bump
Getting tired of it? They're on the brink of perfecting it. After RDR you just know Rockstar is going to blow the doors wide open with GTAV. There's never been a more exciting time to be a fan of open worlds.
I know this is beating a dead horse so i'll rephrase it and mix it with another beaten horse.
"if R* really wants go all out with the next GTA, they need to take Kojima's approach to MGS4"
@ Alienage
Well, I'm glad developers are on the brink of perfecting a genre you enjoy. As for me, I miss the good old action games–like Otogi–before God of War took over the genre.
Eh, I'm tiring of it. It's all "Go talk to so and so, follow mission parameters, wash rinse repeat. Now go racing. Here's a new person, you know what to do."
Well now I'm confused Kangasfwa. How do you grow tired of a genre you don't enjoy? You telling me you play games you don't like? Or are you tired of other people enjoying a genre you don't like?
@ Alienage
Sorry man, I have a bad habit of skipping words when I write (or type). I meant to say I'm happy that developers are perfecting a genre you "still" enjoy. I enjoyed open world games but the way these games play is wearing thin for me. Once the initial fun of running around exploring and/or causing mayhem wears off, these games start to feel like running errands like World said. This feeling is becoming more prominent as I near the end of Assassin's Creed 2 for example.
In RDR, either *SPOILERS* a brand new story on Jack, because I'd love to know what would happen to him since he's the only Marston alive (and kicking ass with John's stuff….), but that could be DLC.
Most likely, it's a brand new story, with brand new characters, setting(ish lol), etc.
Regarding the setting though, can they still expand on more though? Because I remember RDR's story taking place at the end of the Wild West; it started in 1911, and by the time the game ended, it was 1914, the first year of WWI (the papers mentioned the news of that, so that's how I know).
If my little skepticism if right, which I hope for otherwise, they can set it before the end of the WW, probably during the "golden days" of the WW perhaps? My knowledge of the WW is sorta layman, so yeah…lol

I will buy RDR2 on day one. Rockstar's ability to tell a compelling story with the most interesting characters in gaming is unmatched.
Final Fantasy still holds that position IMO.
…besides FFVIII….
*Cough pacman *cough *cough
I just hope it shines in L.A. Noire.
@World,
L.A. Noire isn't a Rockstar project. They are only the publishers. If you want an example of what to expect, I point you in the direction of the Getaway, as it's being made by those developers. I wish that Sony hadn't've dropped the title. We could have had another great exclusive for bragging rights.
Peace.
Getaway!! That's the game is was talking about a while back and no one could tell me what it was. They used actual maps of London and British people claimed they could navigate the game from memory.
So I hear, but I hope R* has a little oversight on the project.
When it comes I'll be happy!
Also in all honesty im almost tired of GTA. I think after 5, they need to hang it up for awhile or come with something completely new. Which isn't to say they wont do something with 5 to make it set apart, but they need to do something.
As world said its getting tiresome. The wild west in RDR made it feel new as far as accomplishing it goes, and I enjoyed it much better!

If they could give us the quality and production value of RDR and place it in a different setting, say the protagonist being a viking, a ninja/samurai, a spartan warrior, or some other cool time period then I would be sold day one. As Alienage say, they are on the brink of perfecting it, and new setting could be what takes it over the top.
Yeah…I loved GTA III-IV and all, but this open world 'yes man' gameplay might need to take a vacation or get revamped. RDR stand out feature was the story…the shooting was fun, but I'm tired of shooters. Rockstar needs to start making dramatic cut scenes with music to match. RDR tried this formula a little, but I want to see touching cutscenes like what you get in Japanese games. MGS, FFXIII, and Bayonetta had some compelling stories solely due to the presentation. Rockstar is going for the real life approach, but that will only get you so far. All games have you following people's orders, but Rockstar did a great job making fun of it in RDR. Dead Space on the other hand didn't. I will definitely buy RDR2 on the first day, but I will go in with low expectations as far as originality goes.
Not sure what Dead Space has to do with anything except maybe following some orders. But if you didn't do that you were a dead man so it's a bit different.
meh, who cares about another RD game?
come on R* give us some more info and maybe a demo for LA Noire?
or at least a live demo of Agent, max payne 3.
only R* could announce a game and show nothing on it for 3+ years!
looks like remedy should of held onto the MP IP after all.
Erm, S-E hasn't shown off bugger all of Versus XIII, so R* isn't alone. But yeah, I want to see at least one of the projects already in the pipeline on store shelves before they announce anything else.
By the way, L.A. Noire wasn't announced by R*. It was done by either Sony before they dropped the title, or Team Bondi itself. I don't remember which.
Peace.
ok only R* & $E could announce a game and show nothing on it for 3+ years!
looks like remedy should of held onto the MP IP after all.
happy?
Isn't Red Dead Redemption already a sequel? I remember there being a game called Red Dead Revolver on the PS2. So is Rockstar aiming for a trilogy?
Redemption isn't a true sequel to Revolver, they have different characters and storylines. Although I don't see the next Read Dead game continuing the storyline of Redemption, because that story is finished.
I guess if you consider GTAIV to be the sequel to GTAIII, then Redemption is the sequel to Revolver.
Well, Rocktstar was absent from E3 because they're having their own conference right?
But when is their conference?
Is it over or still haven't happen?
It hasn't happened yet, to the great annoyance of, well, me at least. Damnit, I want to see what R* have to show me, and I swear to Kratos that if they reveal a new GTA and Midnight Club without giving us a release date and info for LA Noire and Agent, I'm going to go on a GTA:LCS style rampage, grab a flamethrower and burn everything. Or not.
Peace.
Any idea when will they hold the conference?
Just to make it look like I'm on topic in this thread, RDRevelations will most likely be a D1P for me, provided is isn't exactly the same as RDRedemption. I want an even more personal story. Perhaps one in which the main character is driven by their own motivations, rather than those of other people. I think that's my biggest gripe with R* games. You're almost always doing what everyone else wants, and stuff who the protagonist's wishes and wants.
Peace.
I was about to say that it's too early, but it will take a few years to make it so it's all good.
I hope it's another all new story ala the transition of Revolver and Redemption, but in this day and age, familiarity unfortunately reigns, so i can't see that happening.
The time line for RDRemption was only about 100 years ago, and the horse and buggy era was just about to end.
The next one may be about the Old West's downfall and/or the last gun slinger.
I was thinking they might be working on Midnight Club but for sure it is not GTV, they been working on that for a while now and I really think it is the RDR sequel, I now for one think the day it's announced is the day I lose $60.
GT5 countdown: 25 days
