Well…all right. We had too many WWII shooters but that doesn't mean developers are ready to leave the WWII theme behind.
But if you think about the history, such a project might be far more reasonable than initially believed. See, Captain America actually debuted way back in 1941, which just so happens to coincide with the second great war and in fact, the superhero was created to aid the U.S. in the war effort. And yes, that included battling Nazis. So, perhaps it isn't a stretch at all to say that a new Captain America , based in WWII, in both video game and movie form, is on the way . The movie will star Chris Evans ("Fantastic 4"), Tommy Lee Jones (take your pick), and Samuel L. Jackson (again) and it'll be entitled, "Captain America: First Avenger." The game will be called Captain America: Super Soldier , and it'll be a "third-person action adventure" set in a large castle complex and various foes from the original comic books (Iron Cross included). Gameplay will revolve around hand-to-hand combat, platforming, and that patented invincible shield.
Super Soldier is in development at Next Level (they made the new Punch-Out ) and is slated to arrive for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP and DS some time next year.
Related Game(s): Captain America: Super Soldier
Finally, I get to punch a Nazi in the face.
Just when we finally get CoD to give up on WWII, in steps Next Level with their latest brilliant idea.
Someone doesn't remember the golden age of comics.
Fighting Nazis….Captain America's dream :D.

Great site for sore eyes for us older gamers who remember CA.
But all I've got to say about the game right now, is that….
Next Level had better do justice taking Captain America to their Next Level
I love taking out Nazi's, but I have absolutely no interest in this. I've always thought Captain America was up there with the gayness of Captain Planet et al. But I took a look at a trailer of the movie and at least he doesn't look quite as flamboyant. Still, just stop making games of movies… just stop.
I was like you for the longest time. Couldn't stand Captain America at all. Then I read Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's Ultimates. That'll change definitely change one's opinion of Cap.
Captain Planet was the shit! I still remember playing a NES captain planet game, in fact… It was really tough too.
Almost as flamboyant as that dude with the swordsman avatar, ay? lol
Swords and black scarves aren't flamboyant.
Another Videogame adaptation of a movie. Them Iron Man games & that Incredible hulk game sucked so hard. I don't know bout this but then again the last Wolverine game was a pretty good comic book hero game considering it was a adaptation of the movie so I'll keep an open-mind about this.
Why do we have to have a movie based Captain America game? Is a game based on the original comics too much to ask?
The movie isn't based on the game it's based on the comic book. The game is based off the movie which will more then likely have a small touch of the comic books. Remember the wolverine movie game.
uh Guyver, "movie based Captain America game" means a game based on the movie 🙂
that's pretty much what I was trying to say man, I just worded it wrong.

good idea! educate the younger crowed that just think CA is just a super hero when actuality he was a symbol of hope for the US and the world….BUT a game based on a movie is not the way to go. look @ arkum asylum it was great and not based on a movie.
and further more why do devs wait til a comic book movie to come out? im dying for a x-force , x-factor, wet works (image), lobo (dc), cyclops, u name it game to be made without a movie. (Bleach rpg or movie(cough).
WETWORKS. Oh, man. If there was ever a comic property that was dying to get made into a video game, it's WetWorks. I've been saying it for years now. This property is just… perfect for video games.
Posted too soon! Now that DC/Warner owns the property, I keep hope that one day it'll happen. After all, for a short while, the book was being published again through DC Comics/WildStorm with the original creator drawing it. XD!
I for one was appalled when they removed the American panache from Wonder Woman… The new outfit covered more skin.
Games based on movies based on something else almost always suck and will continue to almost always suck until it stops. Wolverine was the only one I played that was a step in the right direction, but connecting it to the movie held it back a few steps — especially since the prologue and epilogue of the game make no sense whatsoever within the context of the filmed version of the project.
Cap, Iron Man, and the rest of the Avengers should either get games that do them justice (like Arkham Asylum and Shattered Dimensions) and have no connection to a previous existing or soon to be released comic or movie, or they should just drop it. It's little more than a marketing ploy by the studio/developers/property owners to make extra cash off of the films, and the games really show that in their lack of quality.
hmmm, interesting.
hopefully this is more like xmen origins wolverine and less like iron man 2!
origins was actually a really good game, albeit buggy, really really buggy, but good.
Sigh.. Yeah let's have Captain America go back and fight WWII when we are currently in a very dangerous war against islamic fundamentalists who fly airliners into office buildings on our homeland, chop off people's heads on video tape and are seeking nuclear weapons and will not hesitate to use them. WTF? Have we in the West lost our minds? We can't have Captain America in a video game battling these people? The enemy who's name we dare not speak? Like little lambs we've become. Defending what the western democracies have done with this world should be a source of pride and certainly a video game should have no shame portraying this.
Weak.
PS. I'm no fan of Captain America the comic so if he's already taken out Al Qaeda in some other game I stand corrected.
@dan,
If your not a fan and obviously dont follow the comic books…Why did you care?(simple question) I mean wow…we really dont need CA boosting our troops anymore or our youth for that matter we are a little stronger now compared to 1941.
u see how Medal of Honor got a lady upset…a comic book game with the current war would be burned so quick.
Well I thought the MoH complaint was that players could play as Taliban. I can see why that might get some people mad. I don't agree but I can see their point.
I think all this going back to WWII, USSR or Vietnam for game scenarios is weak when their is a current real life war going on now that for PC reasons can't be portrayed. It's the same with movies and TV. I am very happy MoH has the balls to do what they are doing.
So you think that basing the game on the comic book hero is lame? You want to change the awesomeness that people remember from the comic book and "dress it up" so that the little kiddies can enjoy it?
So an American buddy of mine told me WWII began in 1941… which is taught in schools across America.
But… I'm pretty sure that's just when America got involved (after Pearl Harbor)… Cause…. I know for a fact, based on the promotions and medals my late grandfather had, that he began fighting in WWII in 1938…. and in MY history classes, I was taught it began in 1937.
Just throwing that out there.
@underdog CA was created in 1941.
@dan the game would be "themed" in the CA origin which happens to be in that time. its really not going back its telling the origin of CA (hopefully without screwing it up) but if you was a FAN you would know that. i still would love to here your answer to my question too. for the record im not trying to argue just saying.
this is for the non-Cpt. America fans. a little education goes well….here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America
Sega had 2 chances with the Iron-man games, and dropped the ball twice.
I want this to be a good game. It could be like a current gen Rygar if they get it right. But Sega doesn't have a very good track record with Marvel movie tie ins.
Who made that wolverine movie game? They should hand the project over to them instead of sega, at least that game was pretty good.

agree…forget sega
do xbox fans deserve Capt'n America?
