No Medal Of Honor Demo, Army “Surprised” At Multiplayer

If you're still on the fence concerning a Medal of Honor purchase, you'd probably look for a demo before the game arrives.

But unfortunately, that won't happen. According to an update on the official Medal of Honor forums , DICE associate producer Barrie Tingle (known as Bazajaytee), no demo will be released before the highly anticipated shooter hits store shelves next week. The update was short and to the point- "Just got confirmation, there will be no Demo before launch of MoH." However, we have heard that a multiplayer demo should be available at some point and remember, that update came from a UK site, so…who knows what might happen? By the way, the Taliban controversy continues, as we learn the U.S. Army was surprised at the multiplaye issue . Why? It seems military consultants never even saw the multiplayer mode until August, although if any of them had been gamers, wouldn't they have made the assumption…? Two sides in a typical multiplayer battle; one side has to be the Americans and the other side has to be the Taliban. Yes? But anyway, the controversy continues, even after EA opted to remove the Taliban reference from the multiplayer action.

The final question will be whether or not the game is worthy of the demanding shooter fan, and whether or not it can compete with Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops this holiday season. Guess we'll have to wait and see…should be interesting.

I'd like to see a poll taken with the active troops to see what they think about this game.

Yeah same here.

But I wonder… Did they think people would be fighting giant furby dolls with guns or something?

And what, they would have prefered it to be an american vs american kinda thing? Like omg there is no way the talibans can win a match but lets have us americans kill other americans so that way americans will always win. *Brain IQ -40* And if this is how they think I don't give our country a lot of time to live XD lol

And to think they would give this much attention to a video game they must really be bored outta their minds -_-

Most of the soldiers i know are gamers and are close to my age so i know they wouldn't have a problem with this understanding that this is the reality of things at the moment. I mean most of them played Counter Strike with me and understood that in a multiplayer game one team is the good guys and the other is the bad guys. Like when kids played Cowboys and Indians. Unfortunately we have quickly turned into a PC culture where uncomfortable truths are silenced or watered down with nonsense lies like renaming the Taliban "Opposing Force."

Over the last couple months since the media-made controversy first started, both, the media, and some gaming sites went to the Special Forces & Ops groups to interview them in order to get their reactions to allowing the taliban to be playable.

And not one of those interviewed were against it, most were glad that MOH would've been so realistic, and that gamers everywhere could get more of a truer feel for what conflicts are really like.
Plus they said it right, "It's only a game"

Plus, factor in the fact that some Spec Op's people were actual advisers in helping to the game's developers craft this new MOH reboot.

And I also believe the Army bigwigs already knew about the multi-player part of MOH.

Oh come on now, seeing how the Army, themselves, had already contracted out to Ubisoft, "The Official U.S. Army" Video Game, called "America's Army: Rise Of A Soldier" & had even started on a 2nd America's Army game before deciding to cancel it.
So how could they not expect that a modern military game just might include modern realistic enemies.

Anyway, my stand on the whole thing now, is that I call BS & that EA has sold out.

In the Kotaku article that John linked to, there was a US Army official that upon hearing about the controversy in August, wished to see a demonstration of the multiplayer game, as the Army was only involved in the consulting for the single player game. He came out "a little disappointed" but stressed that he "didn't grow up with video games".

The article goes on to say that they did not ask EA to remove the content (nor could they force them to do it) but there was discussions about pulling official US military support. My perspective is that could have had possible implications for military cooperation on future EA titles.

I wonder was they mad about it or or happy…….

I would imagine most of the younger soldiers who are gamers could care less while the older Generals and leadership probably blew a gasket over this. I doubt there are many gamers in the upper leadership ranks of the military.

The link John had from Kotaku states that a US military official was "a little disappointed".

No demo?
Too bad, and I was hoping to get a taste of this.

Guess I'll have to read a lot of reviews.

Well I guess I'll read the reviews before I decide whether or not to get it. If it's good enough, the special edition would totally be worth it to get the updated version of Frontline.

I haven't seen a special edition. Where was this at?

Well I haven't heard anything about it recently, but I remember EA announcing an exclusive PS3 special edition at E3. Unless they cancelled it, that would suck.

Edit: I'm not completely sure but I think it's an extra for the PS3 Limited Edition, which appears to be the only version of the game for any console.

The ps3 version has an hd remake of moh frontlines on it. The 360 edition says limited edition so they dont feel left out

My understanding was that every copy of the PS3 version of MoH would have Frontlines.

I wonder if Frontlines is included on the disc or if it's a code to download it.

Nope, the gameplay is exactly the same except instead of "Taliban" as the title of that team, it will read "Opposing Force".

Not my thing, but (unless it is a Rockstar game) I often liken a lack of a Demo to when a movie isn't screened for the press before opening day.

What IS nice to see is that the quality of demos vis-a-vis them being a good feel for the full product, has really increased since this gen began.

Thinking about this US controversy a bit more, and apologies if it's already been discussed, but I wonder why they didn't reverse the whole scenario. Instead of renaming the Taliban to "opposing force", why not leave the Taliban as is and rename the American force as the justice or allied force or something similar. Even if someone plays as the "opposing force" they are still trying to kill American soldiers.

WorldEndsWithMe
WorldEndsWithMe

'cuz it ain't cool to be the Taliban in any case.

Neo_Aeon666

Yah but the thing here is that those are not REALLY american soldiers. They are a hunk of pixels and textures part of a fictive story based on true facts.

I can guarantee there are much worse books or movies out there.

Thinking like you are or like they are would imply the simple fact of virtually killing anything that has a human shape in a videogame is wrong. Because why would it be ok to kill just anyone else if it is not ok to kill americans in a game huh? Doesnt that make them feel like a selfish little lot 😛

So it is either allow people to kill virtual pixels shaped like humans or don't. No crap about: * But this pixel shaped human has the american label on it so it is not right to kill him boo hoo *

We have been killing human shaped pixels in so many innovative ways since the dawn of computers (time) that it makes no sense to call it wrong now just because those pixels got a resolution boost 😛

This is what I think anyway 😀 But I sincerely think there is some truth in what I said

Tired of military shooters…only one I own is KZ2. Never owned a CoD title or Medal of Honor. Played MW2 and BC2 through rentals as well previous MoH titles on PS2 and this game might get the same treatment. Not even a fan of FPS's, but Bioshock changed my opinion as well as Resistance 2 and Killzone 2.

Reminds me of Ben's editorial a while back "Will games become too realistic", whoever put the Taliban in was going for realism, but not considering the feelings of the families. Isn't DICE Swedish? The Swedes may have a different view of that sort of thing, I dont really know their culture like that.

I already have this game pre-ordered and Im really looking forward to it. Hopefully its as powerful as the devs describe it to be. Im not playing it for the action, Im gonna play it to see an emotional story of what our current soldiers are going through, and hopefully it portrays their story honorably and the right way. Black Ops is what Im going to get for sheer action.

EA should just make it like American Army. That free pc game from the american army to promote emselves on the net lol. Whatever the side you take you are always the americans and the enemies are the evil terrorists. Like you see yourself as an American soldier but your enemy sees you as a terrorist. So basically Americans always win XD.

I think they should do that because once americans start whining about something they won't stop until everything has changed and they felt they made a difference for the best (in their minds) * This does not apply to the majority it's just that the only people we hear are the ones who complain lol *

Its crazy how sometimes I wish some gaming super hero would come and tell all the annoying people to just shut up and skip the game if they dont like it. And that applies to any earthling lol Just like those other doods who delayed the first little big planet because they thought they heard words from their holy book in a song of the game… XD

Anyway here I am complaining about people who complain lol god that will never end 😀

Peace to all and death to the infidels of the god of games! I guess is what I meant to say 😀

This all started when a politician got a hold of the story that you can play as the Taliban. Up until then, no one cared. When you think about it, in the world of right/wrong, being able to play as a group as evil as them isn't a good thing. For us gamers, we don't even think twice about it. It's randomly picked and someone has got to be the bad guys.

The US Army didn't realize because nothing was done out of malice. It's just the way games are. Simply changing the name corrects it. Now, everyone should be happy and we can get on with playing an awesome game…hopefully.

I'd eat a triple fudge King Cone every day of the week if my budget and weight agreed. Once again _____, you never cease to amaze me how strange you are.

Before EA caved in, an ex-Congressman and a General, both gave MOH some grief
