If you've always wanted to give ModNation Racers a try but never got around to it, now's the time.
It has been announced that both the PS3 and PSP versions of the game have dropped significantly in price. You can nab the PS3 one for $39.99 and the PSP version for $19.99, and with over 1.5 million track, kart and mod creations available right now, that's one heck of a good deal. As revealed at the Blog:
"For the low cost of $39.99, there are over 300,000 tracks to race against friends via split-screen, online against players around the globe, or with AI in single-player. You never have to worry about players memorizing tracks–you can make each race a unique experience that levels the playing field. And if you want to race on the go, you have over 15,000 tracks to choose from on your PSP for $19.99!"
Yep, it's the concept of Play, Create, Share taken into the charming racing venue, and it has worked rather well. In only five months time, over 600,000 players have logged into the Network and that number made the aforementioned 1.5 million fresh inventions. With the holidays right around the corner, one must seek out the savings, all the while remaining entertained. Well, ModNation Racers is great for the whole family, and you can really lose yourself in the customization features. Have fun!

600,000 people logging in and over 1.5 million creations. That's a statistical average of 2.5 creations per player. Got a figure the majority of them are simply vehicle customizations, and you a have a remaining .9 million creations (additional vehicles as well as tracks) by the productive crowd. I'd say that's a healthy community, and handsome dose of replay for all newcomers. Count me in.
Well, in this case, even one vehicle creation per each player would account for .6 million creations. The remaining 900,000 (tracks and additional vehicle creations) would still stand to be the majority made by the productive minority. That is a VERY healthy community.
Did they ever address the load times for this game? Since its release that's a big sticking point I've continued to hear.
Doesn't matter.
Loading has never mattered. All consoles have it. If a game's fun enough 20-30 seconds of loading doesn't matter.
It's such a small issue in my eyes.
From what I heard it wasn't 20-30 seconds, more like minutes.
In a game like this where you're in and out of races and various menus minutes of loading can hinder the fun level.
30 second load times?! Per race?? Sorry but that's pants and it most definitely takes away from the fun.
Just finished playing through inFamous for the second time and it loads in three entire islands full of cars and pedestrians in oh, about 10 seconds.
There was a patch released actually several lol. Less load times maybe 15 seconds, also they unlocked the region lock. I usually hang out in the japanese modspots.
The patch fixed load times pretty well. The initial load when you start up the game is long (about 45 seconds) but that's the longest by far. Races start in 15 seconds or so every time now.
It was NEVER "minutes". People just think it feels that way. After release, the longest load time I ever experienced was 52 seconds at start up. After start-up, you would occasionally wait 25-30 seconds. but now it's less.
I loved this game and platinumed it, so… to each their own, I guess.
The loading times are ok. It gives my fingers time to rest and stretch out. But man, are the AI something else. This was the first game I almost threw my controller out of anger on the AI. But yes, patience is a virtue….

Sorry bout that. Something's wrong with my browser; the icons don't show up 🙁
Great game! If you love racing and don't mind thousands of unique tracks then get this!
I've always wanted to play more than just 30 tracks in past Kart games like Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing, etc.
This game truly allows that feeling of racing in a limitless world.
Great price, Sony should advertise it for the holidays. This is game is a good game to market for the holidays.
Seeing as how these racing games are not my gaming forte, I have to be really choosy if I decide to get one. For now, I'm going to save my money.
This game is an addicting if you are a good artist and love to make things. I love to draw anime so a lot of my mods are inspired by that, even the sexual ones hah. If you like anime stuff and play this game add me to psn, which is sayword. Also they unlocked the region lock so you can visit othe regions.
The Japanese and their power sliding.
I chose Split Second out of the 3 (Blur and MNR being the other 2) and I've had alot of fun with that, but I'm definitely getting MNR at this price. I know it has a big install, though and my 250 gig is 2 gigs from being filled. Guess I'll have to uninstall Siren: Blood Curse again. Dang.
mod nation – mariokart for the ps3.
it's a great game – even the loading time dont detract!
would not even spend 9.99 on that cheating piece of tripe!
i was sooooooooooooooooo excited for this, ive always been a massive kart racing fan, got into the beta late last year and it left me as giddy as a school girl!
finally got to play it, and o boy was i disappointed!
cheap cheating AI is what mainly put me off, i mean every single time i attack a enemy he either dodges or blocks my attack.
if i had a nickle for every time i have been tailgating a enemy, fired off a rocket and he blocked it i would be the worlds richest man by now!
come on, not even flash himself could react that quickly!
If i remember correctly, with the patch, didn't they add a casual difficulty setting as well?
Yeah, they added a casual difficulty. But I think _____ is just no good at figuring out these games. I platinum'd this title… and it wasn't exactly the toughest platinum I've ever had. I don't know what he's going on about. It was challenging, but you adjust. I don't think he realizes you can change the way your kart handles and accelerates whenever you want.
I wouldn't want it any easier.
The patch did some work on the difficulty, but there are times when my casual enemies suddenly got some balls and attack me..all at once! but hey, the overall game's too fun for this to tear me away from MNR 🙂
Sorta-side note: I'm so proud of my Spider-Man Noir creation. Awesome lil thing. haha
lol yeah. If you have the lead, a little tip to prevent as many all-at-once attacks…
Typically, the AI will save up a full 3-tiered attack and fire it as soon as it's charged. You can slow it down by dropping two-tiered bombs behind you (getting hit with a tier-2 attack, takes off one charge on your weapon) or you can drop 3-tiered weapons behind you which removes their weapon altogether.
Keep in mind, you should drop them right AFTER the mnr weapons bubbles. Like… not far after… 2 feet maybe. Since 3-tier drops have an AOE, you can take out more than one person. (Which boosts your charge and removes some threat.) Those familiar can see how this helps.
Also, spend time practicing your timing on blocking attacks. I now know how to block everything. I just get the lead, then protect it. No boosting or anything. My charge is 100% committed to blocking attacks.
Lastly, in races with lots of racers (more than 7 I'd say), do NOT give your kart full speed in lieu of acceleration. If you get hit, it will take you FOREVER to get up to max speed again. Obviously, max out acceleration over speed if you still haven't figured out how to block well.
