MK Arcade Kollection: Coming To US On November 16?

It was one of the iconic video game franchises of the '90s, so who wouldn't want to revisit the days when good ol' MK ruled the arcades?

Last week, Jeuxvideo claimed Europe would receive a Prince of Persia trilogy remake (with 3D compatibility) along with a new Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection . We had heard rumors that either or both might release in the US as well and now, we have more evidence: firstly, UK retailer GAME has the aforementioned Kollection for the PlayStation 3 listed in their database at £39.99. Secondly, according to GameSpot , the Kollection also – and accidentally – appeared in GameStop's database as well; the page has since been pulled, but it said the remakes would arrive on November 16 for the price of $39.99. No word on the PoP 3D remakes but this ought to make old-school arcade fans pretty happy. MK dominated the arcades for more than a few years; to have that experience in the home ought to be appealing to many veteran gamers.

We'll let you know when Warner Bros. decides to make this official. It's all but confirmed at this point.

The original arcade games have always been my favorite. I already have MK2(my fav stylistically) from PSN. So $40 for MK4, UMK3(my fav gameplay wise) and the original MK probably won't be worth it to me until it goes bargain bin.
I do like these collections, though. I want more =)

From what I've read, they are the same games and aren't the same games at the same time. WB is reshooting new actors as the characters using the current technology versus what the MK team used in the early 1990s. It's not going to be just an upscaling of the old sprites. How much effort is being put into the HD versions I don't know, but the games should play really well and be a lot less buggy than previous ports, including the MKII port on the PSN. WB seems to be going all out with this franchise according to everything that I've read on this project and the new MK.

It's also said to be including a playable demo of the new MK game and it might be a PS3 exclusive, as nothing I've read mentions a 360 version of the game.

There are a few more comic conventions between now and November and I suspect the announcement will come through one of them.

I'd be kidding myself if I said that I wasn't hoping for a comic book adapt of MK announced at the same time. Ha.

i was wondering, shouldn't they name it Arkade instead of Arcade?

Well it's the arcade games. Which limits it to MK through MK4.
I would rather have MK Trilogy and MK Gold, though, over UMK3 and MK4, respectively.

According to the European cover art for the MK Kollection, the disc will include Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The fourth title won't be included.

Ouch, does it at least have online play?
Because $40 seems pretty steep otherwise.

Not sure if it'll have online play or not but it looks like it will be 3D compatible. You can see it it here:

Interesting Tridon. That package looks pretty convincing. I wonder what they really mean by HD. HD as in HD upscaled output, or HD re-rendered sprites?

Maybe there's a reason it's $40. That just seems real high for three ports that were handled probably over night.

I'm not sure about online support but I guess they are polishing up the graphics …

WOA, 40 bucks? I still have MK Trilogy for Dreamcast. Not sure I wanna blow that cash.

I don't suggest it. I'll pay $40 for an ICO/SOTC collection but not $40 for this. If anyone wants to enjoy some MK just get MK2 off the PSN. It's the best in the series (critically and personally) and under $10. I got it for $3 thanks to being a Plus member.

It'll be worth it. It's not 40 bucks for the same old games, really. Each of the three games is being reshot, from what I read, in the same way they did the original games — digitized actors — with new actors and with the latest and greatest in HD technology. It's not just upscaling of the old sprites. I imagine the contols will be pretty tight, while retaining the same gameplay, and a lot less bugs that plague the other ports of the game. Even the spectacular PS3 port of MKII is riddled with the same glitches and bugs that plagued that iteration of the arcade version. I also imagine the stages will be updated to a better visual representation and the sound will probably be fixed too — MK1's sound is atrocious.

Everything is pointing towards this being the only really decent port of the games to come to the PS3 console, and it looks like its a PS3 exclusive.

It also includes a playable demo of the new MK game coming out next spring. So, there's that as a bonus as well.

Warner Bros seems to be doing right by this franchise in a big way, which is nice to say as they hadn't done well by other franchises as of late, considering the complete derailment of the WildStorm line of books since Jim Lee sold it to DC in 1998.

…heh…

Revisiting the arcade style once again. UMK3 was my favorite.

Man, I sooooooooooo want this BUT I also want the new MK coming in March. With everything else that's coming out I am not sure I would even find the time to place this. GT5 is going to dominate most of it. Guess, at the very least this deserves a rent and if the experience is as good as I remember……I'll let someone get it for me for Christmas.

Never like the Mortal Kombat franchise. The blood and all was cool though I admit. I just always passed by the MK machines and headed toward Martial Champion, Killer Instinct, and Darkstalkers. And Smash TV if I was lucky enough to find one.
