Gran Turismo usually has a car that sort of goes above and beyond imagination. Remember the GT-One in GT2?
Well, have a look at the all new Project X1, which is primed to destroy the competition in Gran Turismo 5 . Polyphony Digital asked, "what if you could create the ultimate racing car, a vehicle unbounded by rules or legal racing conventions?" And Red Bull stepped up with the answer :
"Red Bull’s aerodynamics expert, Adrian Newey, performed the role of technical advisor on the X1 Prototype project. Adrian is renowned in the motorsports world for designing championship winning cars. Throughout the X1 design process by Polyphony, Adrian contributed his vast experience, as well as a pure, child-like technical curiosity. As a result, the completed X1 Prototype became an extreme car, having a unique form and mechanism unlike any other racing car in history."
It's only a brief look but it'll suffice. The only question now is, "what sort of insane stuff do we have to do to unlock it…?" Maybe it'll only be a winnable prize in one of the game's most difficult races, or maybe it'll cost 10 million credits. Either way, any true hardcore GT fan will want to have it in his garage, so prepare to work…
For some screens, feel free to check out GTPlanet .

And so begins the process of figuring out how to unlock this beast. I bet it is the prize for one of those insanely long endurance races on a track that in no conceivable way could you tape the accelerator down to win. 48-hour Nurburgring anyone?
Eh, just B-Spec 'em.
Kinda reminds me of unlocking the f1 in gt3 it took a few hours but it was so worth it. Though it pissed me off how many times i won that stupid tick ford trying to get the f1 and then when i finally did get it it was pink
Oh, I can't wait to unlock this car.
I hope it's hard.
I hope it's A-Spec only.
Ben, that would be all too easy though 🙂
Max, I actually hope you're right. I hope it's god awfully, controller bustingly, new telly buying hard. That car, if anything like I think it's going to be, deserves nothing less. Maybe Gold all the licence tests, and first place all the endurance races in A-spec only.
I hope it's A-spec only too.
Some of us don't have hundreds of hours to waste on games anymore. 😉
Yep.. the life of being self-employed for nearly a decade.
Haha! Yeah I hear ya Ben. Actually now that you put it in that perspective the joy of the child inside just died in the face of my deadlines
That's why I always say "choose your career" wisely.
i've literally just started sixth form… how am i gonna get this. im already behind on work.
nice ride………..off topic, did anyone else notice that LBP2 got pushed till Jan 2011 here in North America? Sad…….well at least we got GT5.
Um…yeah, we noticed.
Yeah I wrote that comment when you posted your article.
There was another one yesterday, too.
Wish the video actually gave you a look at that vehicle.
Agreed.
I went back several times it kinda looks like an F1 car with a full aerodynamic treatment including aerodynamic cowling enclosing the wheels, and lights for endurance racing. Obviously it's an open cockpit though.
I bet it's 100% awesome.
Looks more like a LeMans car.
If you take an F1 and give it the full aero treatment including the cowlings, you almost get a Lemans car. The difference is that this one is open and has a single central seat (at least that's how it looks in the video). Lemans cars have to be designed to carry two people. If you look at pictures Lemans cars with open cockpits have two 'humps' (wish I could remember the correct term, it's been years since I watched motor-sports) and the actual cockpit is off-set from the center. The car in the video only has a single 'hump' behind the cockpit, which appears to be centrally located.
So basically this is a car I'll never see. Great.
Well…
Considering I will be dumping a mass amount of time into GT5, odds will be I will have more then one (possibly several) of these very special rides..
I might be willing to do a gift exchange with someone should it be worth my while…
Eventually everyone will have it. It just depends on how much time you're willing to put into the game.
And maybe that's how you unlock it? Once you accumulate a certain amount of racing time you'll unlock it? (200+ hours? lol)
I hope it's like this. Once you reach 200 hours of racing (living the game in the menu doesn't count) you'll definitely be ready to drive something as insane as the X1.
There will probably be a sanctioned unlock for it release as DLC somewhere down the line so that you don't need to give your life to GT5 to get the car. Which I wouldn't mind as long as the folks that go the long route to get the car still get something a bit different. Perhaps the DLC unlock doesn't let you change livery or restricts tuning options or some such, that way those that get the car through play don't feel cheated.
I read about the online features and social aspects of GT5. I wonder if trading cars will be a feature… well now you've got me thinking…
This is another fine example of why PD is THE premiere automobile game developer. Sure, Turn 10 can use "definitive" in a sentence 18 times, but the proof is in the pudding as they say, and the aforementioned pudding's main ingredient is 57 million in sales and hundreds of manufacturer specific collaborations and demos.
No other studio that specializes in the automobile genre has a semi-professional race driver as development lead. In my book, that real world, on track, behind the wheel knowledge translates to an authentic one of a kind experience that no other developer can match. Sure, their have been several quality attempts, but none of them have the race proven background as the core of the franchise.
Now, I am not saying that GT5 is a perfect game. That's an impossible feat that has to be done in the series, nor ever will be. As Kazunori-san has continually stated, he always wants more time, and his never 100% happy with his finished product. He calls the release of GT "stressful".
I know a ton of fans weren't happy with the 5 year development time, but I for one am glad that PD took their time to put out the best product they could. It may be missing a feature or two that you wanted, but when it comes to looking at the big picture, GT5 will truly be a revolution…

GT5…ahh I can not wait to get my hands on it. The cars, tracks just scream to be played for hours on end. To top it all off, this monster of a car. Just thinking about tuning it up gives me a warm feeling deep inside. Ths game will be better then eating the "Macho Grande Burrito Combo!" at Del Taco………….(drool)
I played the demo at best buy. Beautiful…, you could almost feel the wind.
It really feels like you're in a real race. Definitely the most polished version of GT ever….
I love the physics, it truly is the most amazing part of GT. Every car handles differently, you'll notice this right away.

Anyway, the X1 looks to be a legendary car. Only available in GT5! Hell yeah! Man, imagine an online race where everyone races against every one using this car? A X1 exclusive race? OMG!
November 2nd!
(Blade Kitten is my favorite game right now. What a beautiful platforming masterpiece! Great character, fun gameplay, lots of fun treasures and goodies, upgradable everything, and amazingly huge levels. Blade Kitten for the win!)

Indeed, Blade kitten is fun. I watched my wife playing it last night and have to download it myself tonight.
Er… why can't you play the same copy your wife has, Highlander?
-Arvis
Different PS3… 😉
@Highlander
since its your wifes ps3, there wouldnt be a problem sharing the game right? i mean let her sign on her account on your ps3 with a subaccount, check previous downloads, download blade kitten, and that should be fine. i think you can actually share content with up to 5 ps3s. you'll have that blade kitten game as long as your wifes account is still on your ps3.
Exactly John, we each benefit from each others' purchase, which results in us purchasing more that we otherwise would.
For those not aware, this car beat the F1 world record lap on Suzuka Circuit by 20 seconds, driven by Sebastian Vettel.
Just another layer of icing on what is already perfection. I cannot _wait_ to get this in my hands.
Isn't that amazing? 20 seconds in the race world is a wide margin..
That is a huge margin in racing.
I can't even begin to imagine how fast this car must be, and how well it retains speed around corners. It's gotta be on par with Wipeout at zone 60+ lol.
I don't care how hard it will be to get this car, I expect to put an easy thousand hours in this game, easy.
I am also going to get 100% of the trophies too, all 5 or so platinums(I'm not sure how the trophies will work, there most be hundreds of 'em).
I just have to get a logitech racing to prepare for Nov. it's coming up 38 days until nov. 2nd.
Kinda looks like an Audi r10
What a tease of a video! Doesn't matter, game is going to kick all sorts of AZZ.
On a side note, what games (other than GT5) is the G27 wheel compatible with. I really want to get one see, but I can't really justify spending five hundred dollars if I'm only going to use it with one game. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm already spending three hundred on it for the SigEd. But yeah, help anyone?
Peace.
I believe F1 2010 is compatible, I know my G25 works great with it. If you go to codemasters I think they posted what wheels were supported with F1.
I saw this vid last week & I got to thinking about it…..that they should make the Project X1 insanely hard.
Then, as an added incentive, they should add a grand prize to it for the very first person who unlocks the X1.
And the prize should be that they get a new 1-of a-kind GT-skinned 640GB PS3, blazoned with the look of faux look of diamond-plate, and also, the whole catalog of Polyphony games free for life, both past, present, & all future games made.
Plus, put their accomplishment into GT-6 for prosperity, somehow.
With that said, I already know I'll never unlock that X1.
But….if they decide to let us unlock a crash-test dummy, don't even bother thinking about it cause I've already got that one nailed!

cant wait for this, i just hope they fix the clutch pedal and the flaps behind the wheel for the full game.
GT5P and the latest demo did not have those working, so you could not use the clutch to change gears which was really disappointing!
WTF is the point of having a racing sim, if you cant use the clutch?
tis like buying a super car in automatic, completely utterly pathetic and ridiculous!
