CyberConnect2 Reveals Early Details For Asura’s Wrath

Although that insane debut video at TGS 2010 turned a lot of heads, details were few and far between.

But at least we get some baseline information from developer CyberConnect2; those details were found in Famitsu (as cited by Play.tm ), and they're sort of encouraging. Firstly, the team won't be using Capcom's internal MT Framework engine; instead, they've opted for the popular Unreal 3 engine. Secondly, there will be no online multiplayer (either competitive or co-op) and they don't plan to add it via DLC at a future date. We've seen this same approach from Platinum Games with their new project Vanquish ; it's an effort to focus on the single-player campaign, which we certainly appreciate in this day and age. Thirdly, they say there will be a "high barrier to entry," which translates to a high learning curve in our minds. Fourthly and lastly: CyberConnect2 quite simply "wants to push the boundaries of traditional action games." Yeah, well, that much was obvious when viewing the trailer. So it's too early to have a release date just yet but so far, Asura's Wrath is shaping up to be a very hot title.

Perhaps "action/brawler" would be an apt description of the game. If so, the whole thing should be a total blast.

Looks like Japan's answer to GOW.

I hear it is coming in Winter, as in early next year.

It's gonna be an over-the-top brawler.

By the way, the guy that was stabbed a dozen times in the trailer seriously need some anger management.

Seeing that it's running on the UE3 it'll probably run at 30fps like most UE3 games.
I preference my fast action hack 'n slash games (NG, Bayonetta, DMC) at 60fps. Not a game breaker just a preference.

Didn't really know how I felt about this game when I saw the video, sure I was impressed but I just didn't know.

Now that I hear they are not adding online MP, I am more intrigued. I have been feeling a lot of games lately are suffering from this need to add MP and it takes away from the SP aspect but hearing them state they are making this an entire SP experience has me hopefully.

Maybe this will be crazy awesome like Godhand was.

Knowing there is no Online Multiplayer is great! Too many games put online in their games, and games that are better experienced by yourself, whenyou go online with it, ends up getting a bit ruined. I know when I used Ad Hoc Party with Birth by Sleep, I didn't look at the Arena the same way, it felt more annoying for some reason…

Although I like Uncharted 2's online portion the game didn't need it at all…

I would have preferred if they added side-missions to the game instead. Or for co-op.

Looks great, if the gameplay is fun and the characters are engaging/likable I'll defintely get it.

So good to hear 'bout not adding online stuff to it. Hopefully more companies will take notice of this.

No online? Why would Capcom allow such a thing? No wonder their R&D thinks they're five years behind. They ARE.

Because crapcom isntt making the game it would appear, essentially its just CC2 either taking an idea or crapcoms money to produce an actually good game under crapcoms name to make them seem like a better developer, which is interesting since as far as I know CC2 has always worked with namco bandai making incredible games, like the ultimate ninja series and .hack games.

I'm glad it won't have multiplayer – 100% of the time and money will be spent on the single player campaign. Besides, some games just don't translate well to multiplayer. And I kind of doubt that a game like this would ever be played by the typical Halo / MW2 fans anyway; it won't have controls and gameplay that are identical to the last 5 games they've played, and all their friends won't be playing it.

That trailer is pretty cool. If you want to watch it in HD, then go to Japan PSN and download the video and alot more from TGS.

Being the UT3 engine, they would literally have to take out the online component. Why would you go through the added expense of taking something out of a game that would literally lead to higher sales?

lol, why does everyone hate on the UE3?

I can't say I'm a fan of everything UE3 because I like seeing variety.
And some game design choices will better accommodate the UE3 than others, but where it works, it works well.

But does anyone deny that the Gears series was a really good match artistically and technically with UE3?

Also, Snaaake, the UE3, like most engines, goes through constant updates in efficiency and capabilities. So it really isn't accurate to call it outdated.

It doesn't work on the PS3, even Arkham Asylum was still significantly better in performance on 360 in a side by side comparison.

World, I can agree to that. The UE3 usually preferences the 360 in multi-plat comparisons, but that's unfortunately the norm with most multi-plat games in general. Your fav Dante's Inferno game is actually a rare exception with both games being virtually identical from my research =)

I will defend Batman in saying that while the 360 edges it out with 2xMSAA implementation (not too noticeable because of the darker more grittier palette) and ambient occlusion (another really minor effect) the games were remarkably similar in execution. I think considering the FMV compression advantages of the PS3 version and additional Joker content, I'd probably preference the PS3 version.

weve seen and heard so little about this to make any judgments about it, but that said it certainly has potential.

This reminds me of Sword of the Berserk. It looks freaking awesome. I just hope the combination of Unreal Engine 3 + Japanese developer does not equal shitty PS3 port.
