New Yakuza: “Gun Shot Battle” vs. Standard TPS

Yakuza is a big deal in Japan. And the next iteration – which oddly includes zombies – made a big splash at TGS 2010 .

Only days after its official unveiling, plenty of details are starting to flood the Internet. You can find a full rundown over at Andriasang , complete with all new screenshots. Scheduled to hit Japan in April, the rush of the undead threatens Kamurocho; the city's Self Defense barrier means the rest of the country will be okay, but inside that barrier – the city itself – all hell will break loose. You saw them already in that trailer (linked above) but as a reminder, four familiar faces will be included: the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, Shun Akiyama, Goro Majima, and Ryuji Goda.

Also, Sega will be adding a "Gun Shot Battle" system, which is basically akin to a third-person shooter; each major character will have a particular weapon, too. Other weapons, including grenades, will be made available as you progress, and then there's the new "Heat Snipe" feature. It's a spin-off of the Heat Action melee skills in previous installments, and it allows for more precise targeting of offending foes.

But don't forget that Of The End will also bring back many of the familiar features fans know, like mini games, hostesses, collaborations, etc. If you want to learn more about the story behind this new Yakuza , feel free to visit the source link above. The only question is, have they completely eliminated melee combat; is this a straightforward third-person shooter now? If not, might there be a 50/50 split between the two types of action? Series director Toshihiro Nagoshi did say it'll be "different from typical zombie or panic games," and they say it's "Gun Shot Battle" rather than "TPS." Said Nagoshi:

"The gameplay is being made so that even those who aren't good at action games will be able to enjoy themselves. The hurdles will definitely not be high, so take ease."

What say the Yakuza fans?

I love yakuza, and as long as this doesnt influence the story of whatever comes after it and just stays a fun spinoff I'm all for it

Yakuza series is not about shooting zombies or shooting at all. It's about exploring.Dating Hostesses playing all the Games available.Buying some food.Helping people with their problems in the city.Using a very awesome fighting mechanic to fight the Yakuza. And plaing a very entertaining and engaging story about Yakuza people.

Well kazuma never really kills anybody so it would be expected that he would never shoot someone, however if kazuma had to defend all those orphans from some zombies i doubt he not use guns

Nah just jumping on the popularity of Zombies in games, and trying to compete with Dead Rising. The good thing is that unlike Kenzan we might actually get this spin off.

Yeah World, it surely sounds like it.
Damn, I sure hope these don't start screwing this franchise up.

Great…another games with guns. Tired of shooters…I'll just wait until UC3 and KZ3 come out to satisfy my needs. Thank god GT5, Fallout NV and ACBrotherhood are coming out. I still want to play part 3, but its still full price and I can't find it anywhere to rent to see if I like it. Well whatever.

I never play a yakuza game before but I know those zombies dont belong there. Is this like a different story or a spin off?

From the gameplay footage this doesn't seem like no ordinary tps. Yakuza and zombies!? Did you see how awesome the gameplay is? Its like the melee combat from previous yakuza but added guns. They are probably trying to westernize it but from the looks of it, its pure japanese.

And wow there's huge monsters in the game too hah, talk about breaking tradition. Not many developers or publishers break out of their norm, they deserve props lol.

Not a fan of Yakuza, but I may have to invest in the third just to get me up to speed after hearing this. I know the basics of the franchise, but no more than that. My hope is that it retains the melee combat of the originals (just imagine taking on a zombie swarm with only your fists), while the added guns is used sparingly. Something I read a couple of days ago, I think, said that these characters had guns for arms and all sorts of crazy stuff, but I wasn't paying too much attention to that.

My biggest question is this: If you were caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, where would you find the time to visit a hostess club, or play mahjong. It boggles the mind, boggles I say!
Peace

ohh, if its the end of the world i'll rather spend it at hostess clubs, hahaha. just reinforce street level entrances and use ladders to get up since i've never seen a zombie use ladders.

you never played resi 4?
there was heaps of zombies climbing on ladders in that.
tis one thing i really hate about RE5 you can kick down ladders, try and use the environment to your advantage and trap zombies but than they can just leap up.
WTF is the point of kicking down a ladder if the zombies can just jump up?

RE4 and 5 didn't have zombies. They had Las Plagas. Either way, I think I'd have a bit more fun sitting on top of the club with a sniper rifle. Go inside when you start to get a bit tired 😛
Peace.

ive only really played yakuza 3 and i really liked it. loved the gameplay and story. and especially the way guns werent that big of a part of the game. It seems world is right about westernizing the game. its a great game as it is. i'm really kicking myself for not playing 1 and 2 because i thought it was just gta in japan.

They got balls….i can say that.

Who else would dare take a game that relies on pretty serious stuff that's had a following for 6 years….and turn it upside down and risk everything? I'll tell you who, the thriving and still number one Japanese gaming industry.

Fucking ruined the Yakuza Franchise!
Still will wait to play the game.
I was waiting to see ryuji again and play as majima Finally with their both fighting styles in a dark and engaging story but that might never happen.
I Hate Expert Japanese Developers telling a story about Japan following American Games.

Relax! All those great things you mention will still be there. There will also be a combination of shooting and melee attacks.

This is a side story, or spin off, like Kenzan. That is why this isn't a numbered entry, e.g. Yakuza 5 or Yakuza 6 (if you include Kenzan). Just think of it as an alternate reality Yakuza and enjoy it for what it is.

Finally, even Kazuma, who doesn't use guns, might actually pick up a gun and fire off a few rounds to clear some of the Zombie horde bearing down on him before he goes back to using his melee attacks.

So, again, relax!

But ryuji is coming back.He should be part of the story not in a side story!Do you understand me?I don't want One of my favorite characters of the PS2 era to come back in a game with Zombies which doesn't happen in real life.

I just hope that in addition to the shooting elements they allow me to fight the zombies. I love Yakuza's battle system and mixing that with Dead Rising sounds awesome to me.
