It's a significant week for updates, so isn't it nice that we get 'em a day early?
If you didn't already know, Sony has announced they'll be conducting scheduled maintenance between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PST on Tuesday, which means you won't be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, or your Account Management options during that time. However, as a sort of "hey, sorry 'bout this" gift, Sony will update the Store with this week's content between tonight and tomorrow morning. This information came from the company's official Twitter page ; you should definitely pounce now, because cool stuff like DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue arrives, as well as a demo for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West . If you're more into the over-the-top anime thing, you should look into Blade Kitten ($15) and for PSP owners, there's the 101-in-1 Megamix ($15), which boasts a massive mini-game compilation. Lastly, there's an NBA Elite 11 demo, which gives us a look at the overhauled franchise once known as NBA Live .
For more info, head on over to the PlayStation Blog . We're currently unsure about the Enslaved demo, by the way, but we know it's up on the European Store.
Sony is nice to us 🙂
I plan to check out that "Enslaved by Westernization" demo as soon as I can. Blade Kitten might be kinda cool too, perhaps I'll check out some reviews on that as I don't see a demo mentioned.
Nice play on words World
Well, just to let all you guys(and gals) in the US EST zone know, it's 5 minutes to midnight & none of it's on the PSN yet, but I will be checking later on too.
Also, we should be getting this at any time too..PS3 Blu-ray 3D Update Coming September 21.

I wanna try that Blade Kitten game. 2D goodness is always worth a try.
Cant wait to play Enslaved, Ben, does God of War 3 include english or spanish subtitles?
Played enslaved last week, nothing special there.
…interesting.

i actually liked it
I found Enslaved to be very stiff. There was also quite a bit of screen-tearing in my copy of the demo. I have no idea why Ninja Theory used the Unreal Engine on this game. The voices and facial expressions were great, though.
yeh u could tell it was the unreal engine which never really dilivers good graphics :S
AhHAH. There IS a Blade Kitten demo, I'm downloading that and Enslaved Monkeys and Pigmen.
hehe, me too! I laughed to myself after reading your comment about playing Blade Kittens and then seeing it on the PSN. There were also some nice FREE games available for us Plus members (I see you're not one of them).
nah, it isn't worth it to me at this point. My PSN and PS1 purchases are very small.
Hey world 🙂 what's your psn? haha
DonovanTheICEMAN
LOL, nice, I like the sound of it
Enslaved demo thoughts: While there were no "holy crap I need this game" moment, I was pleased it was better than I thought it'd be.
Pros: Great work on the lighting, what little bit of fighting was in it was satisfying, and I can see how the game could open up and do more with extra powers and stuff. It definitely has that special something I liked about Heavenly Sword. I still want to stay optimistic. I could see the Uncharted 2 elements they attempted, and I appreciate them.
Cons: The unreal 3 engine isn't allowing for much emotion in their faces, so the voices aren't matching well, and the lip sync is off. The graphics are multiplat 2009, except of course for those great lighting effects. Certainly better than Quantum Theory, but they need softening from time to time to hide the polys. Also there are lots of frame rate dips and screen tears in the cut scenes. Quite sloppy.
Monkey is very herky jerky and the controls are quite slow to react. It was never a joy controlling this character. The climbing and platforming is well, not as intense as it is supposed to be.
Those are my opinions. So far, I'm thinking yes I'd like to play this game, but no not at full price.
oh come on, riding down the side of the crashing ship into the city wasn't exhilarating enough for you?
=p
Well I agree with World for the most part. It seemed for every good thing they had, there was an equivalent con. The audio to the game was satisfying. Nothing over the top but good. The voice acting, IMO, was fantastic for what it was, though like world said, it never matched the facial animations.
While on the subject of animation, I found it to be quite good. loved the way monkey moved, jumped and even they way he fought. It had that cinematic feeling that I wasn't expecting, but at times the controls seemed a little clunky while controlling him. Not to where it was too noticeable, but it was there.
My major gripe though has to be the frame rate issues. Saw a lot of screen tearing. That was a huge disappointment because again, during those cinematic parts, they would take me out of the game sometimes. One other thing. I'm not sure if this happened to anyone else, but during the cut scene where monkey obtained his gloves and staff, his character model disappeared. I was like WTF! The camera was moving but he wasn't there. Couldn't believe that happened. Side note – I'm starting to get really annoyed at seeing the UE everywhere I turn my head. Come on, move from it already…like World say, it does scream 09…just saying.
The platforming sections need to improve just a little. It felt like during the end of the demo where they tried to capture that high cinematic feeling, all I was doing was mashing X. I didn't really have to know the direction of where to jump yet it still would always end up where it needed to be. I didn't explain that part right but I did feel something akin to that.
The story seems okay. I like how they binded the two characters together. Smart move. If that one section with the escape pod is any indication of how their interaction will be, I think it's safe to say this game will have some very funny parts.
Last thing. Though I DO know NT is behind the game, I was still surprised to see how much the game screamed Heavenly Sword. In fact, since I never really kept up with Enslaved, I couldn't get over how much the girl looked like Nariko. Also it was bad ass to see that this game takes place in my hometown 🙂 I was like, "oh snap lady liberty" lol! I hope that most of my quarrels with the game will be addressed because the way it is now…well lets just say it doesn't warrant a full price purchase, but that's not to say I'm not looking forward to it. It's still good and most likely, the demo was from a very old build…hopefully.

And be careful out there guys, this firmware update bricked my DS3.
No kidding?!?!
Good thing I haven't updated.
It's the damnedest thing. All is well, I update, now my DS3 only works when hooked up to the USB. My old sixaxis works fine, however the DS3 is having massive syncing problems. It appears to be attempting to become controller 1 and 2, since when charging numbers 1 and 2 flash, and when charged numbers 1 and 2 are solid lights. But if I unplug the USB, all four number flash awhile and it goes off. Using the reset on the back of the controller doesn't help.
Anyone else get this all of the sudden? I tried a spare DS3 and that has the same problem. Nothing wrong with the sixaxis though. This is quite odd.

oh man thats not good i'll try do the update with my sixaxis
You mean DS3 can only work when the cable is connected eh?
Okay, I've been at this for hours and need to sleep now, here are two more strange things I learned of the condition:
1) The DS3 WILL turn on the PS3 when I hit the PS button, (even without the cord attached) but after much flashing of the numbers will then just shut off (Keep in mind it has a full charge)
2) If I play a PS2 game it behaves normally; the controller shuts down while the game loads and it asks me to press the PS button. When I do so, the #1 LED lights up like it is supposed to and even wireless functions are restored. However, when I leave the PS2 game it again won't function without the USB cord, and the #1 and #2 LEDs are both lit up.
I'm dyin here man, I can't go back to playing with a cord!

Wow that's crazy. I have been having issues myself since the update. Nothing too substantial and I'm not even sure they're related but problems are problems. After I updated I decided to put in DMC4 while waiting for the Enslaved demo to download…lo and behold the PS3 froze THREE times. This has never happened so I'm on high alert. Also that one issue I stated above about monkey's in game model disappearing…I hope that was due to a game glitch and not the system. Don't know man, now that you mention it, things have be acting funny. I'm going to keep it off till something substantial is revealed.
I had this too with both of my sixaxis controllers last week, exactly the same thing, though they fixed themselves after like 10 minutes of doing nothing…
Anyways, good luck with trying to fix it World, try just unplugging your PS3 or walk like 20 meters away from your PS3, or check your bluetooth devices maybe.
My DS3 seems to be working fine (touches wood), but I can't get my DS2 + conversion dongle to connect. I use it while browsing, etc. to save battery charge for actual gaming.
@World
I actually had the exact same problem 2 days ago (so pre-update).
After a bunch of friggin' around, stopping and starting my controller, hooking it up to the PS3 and unhooking it…. everything seemed to work after I shut down the PS3, switched off the main power switch on the back, waited a minute, then restarted.
I dunno if that will work for you, and you've likely already tried it, but it worked for me.
Again, this is why I refuse to update my PS3 right now. 3.42 KILLED my system and it took me forever to revive it. I'm NOT going through that again. Sony needs to test this $#!+ better before they throw it out to the public in a mandatory fashion.
@World On the back of the PS3 Controller there is a reset button left side of where the hole is to put a screw driver in. That should help it reset and work properly.
(It's a little hole with a white little patch in it)
Hopefully it works for you.
Thanks, but as I said in my post the reset button doesn't help, not when pressed or held.
nice, there was suppose to be a CLOTS demo too but its not up yet not sure what happened to that.
hope it releases soon ive been dying to play that!
also what happened to the STFU2 demo?
lucas arts did say it would be out a month before release.
i just downloaded the update and i have no problems always good to wait till morning to download up dates.
It's because of cases like World's I don't update immediately.
I usually wait for a few days or a week until the problems are solved.
This looks like a great update. I want to try out Blade Kitten and I'll definitely be buying Sonic Adventure. Too bad I won't accessing the PS Store any time soon, though.
I refuse to update my system until all the little firmware bugs are worked out. Update 3.42 gave my PS3 a beating and a half and it took my three full days to get it running properly again (when I say that, I literally mean that my system ran for close to 60 hours straight). Seems like the problems always happen to the Fat PS3s, too. I'm already seeing complaints on the PlayStation forum regarding the new update and their Fat consoles, so I'll be waiting a few weeks before any update touches my system.
It's interesting, eh? How come some people get hit and others don't? My fatty has never had an issue from an update. I had an issue with my DS3 connecting a few days ago, but it only took me like 2 minutes to fix it.
Anyone have any insight about what cause issues with the last 3.42 update?
EDIT: I wonder if it has to do with my schedule. With my work schedule, updates are usually live for 12-15 hours before I get a chance to update. Could be that they get ironed out before I get a chance.

@Underdog15
I usually wait a day to update firmware when it's a major update and it has worked flawlessly, but sometimes i update on the spot never had a problem.
whoa whoa… did i just see an XBOX 360 ad for Halo Reah, isnt this a playstation website?
MS pays for us to talk about Playstation 🙂
lol ya. Google ads… google's bots decide what type of ads we're most likely to click on based on the material about this site. MS probably paid big bucks for advertising which means, any site or user that contains or frequents video game sites, are extremely likely to see that ad.
My computer shows Halo Reach. My buddy? An ad for chatting with the hottest babes in our area. LOL.
Helo Reach the hottest babes in your area
