Ben-DutkaOkay, you can all stop sending me links to the leaked footage. It's obvious that even 30 seconds of Final Fantasy Versus XIII can create a conversation maelstrom. 🙂
Anyway, you've probably already seen it, but here's a link to a supposedly non-removable video . We say "non-removable" because most others have been taken down; especially those found at YouTube. It's clear that Square-Enix doesn't want this footage to get out, which is why we won't be embedding it into this article (or anywhere on the site). But at least it's worth talking about: it appears to be a very wide open world, almost MMO-like, although it's difficult to get an idea of size and scope from that brief clip. Then there's the action, when the character takes on a massive foe in the city…thing is, we didn't really see anything there that distinguished the game as an RPG. These days, the lines between genres are more blurred than ever and we knew it wouldn't be turn-based, but we're definitely missing the role-playing aspects in that video.
It's too bad it isn't very good quality, either, because we're interested to see more about that vaunted realism and beautiful clarity . At some point, Square-Enix will release something new that shows us more in the way of gameplay, and they'll actually let people post it. In the meantime, we reserve the right to reserve judgment.

I do Ben. I know a lot of you were hopeful.
Hopeful that FFvsXIII was going to be a turn-based rpg? I don't think any of us had a slight of hope. Most of us probably knew that 99%, that this game won't be like that and more Action-RPG like KH games.
I never once entertained the possibility that Versus XIII would be turn-based.
Still, I had hoped for something like Dragon Age…you know something that would make me go, "oh, this is an RPG."
I still don't get why people are so mad about that. Tetsuya Nomura stated a LONG time ago, even before FFXIII that Versus would be like Kingdom Hearts. It's weird that people either just disregard that or miss it…
Do you think that maybe Agito will be turn-based?

i hate it when developers do this secret behind doors crap, just makes me think they have something to hide.
MGS rising for example, its been announced for almost 1 and a half years now, BUT THERE STILL MILKING THE SAME GOD DAM DEMOS YEAR IN YEAR OUT!!!!!!!!!

im starting to think these are just tech demos, and there trying to bide their time to get the game upto code before they show it off.
im starting to believe it wont have anywhere near the diversity or accuracy seen in the demos!
As for FF versus 13, i'm not that impressed with the fluidity or anything really, maybe it's the low quality video (I hope). Well actually the way the character was fighting the behemoth kind of impressed. It really reminded me of Crisis Core though, I wonder if it will play like that or more like Kingdom Hearts.
I was a bit diaspointed we did not see the menu system in the battle, becuase does make a difference. As for the free roaming, thats nice, when there is somewhere to go, it looked quite bare. I was hoping for more in that clip, i guess i'll just have to wait until next year…
Dunno what's all the fuss about. It's a 30 sec lo-quality clip that doesn't show anything, really. 3 secs of fighting and some free roam, as seen in the pics released a few months ago.
I liked what I saw, and I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for an excellent FF game, with fresh, new ideas instead of a twitch-gamer appeasing action game with almost no RPG elements at all.
When I saw the comment saying something along the lines of "unbelievable" that you can control everything on the screen, I thought it was like the trailer where he had control to like 14 plus swords. Not that I'm unimpress by the game, but what I see in that 30 sec. clip is nothing unbelievable. I've seen hack n slashing like that in games like Kingdom hearts, DMC and Dynasty Warriors.
World does seem expansive, from cities, desert, wasteland, and what appears to be a gas station? It certainly looks to be the most realistic FF world of all time.
maybe this is just the beginning of the game. They did say this area was the beginning point of the game.
All this tells me is a game called FFvs13 will exist. Graphically, there's nothing that's unique from what's already been done in FF13.

Final Fantasy 13 looks 10 times more of a Final Fantasy title than that looked. I know I talked about giving it a chance and who knows, maybe it will be good and keep an open mind but my mind is telling me no on that video. I still have 7,9,X,and 12 though so if anything I can always go back to those. I will still give it a try after you guys review it of course but that doesn't look anything like an rpg to me but who am I to complain, after all my opinion can't possibly matter. I'm just a consumer.
