PlayStation Move: “A Benchmark In Entertainment Innovation”

Perhaps you need the reminder. And even if you don't, after talking about it for months on end, it's only proper that we provide you with the launch announcement.

Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced the arrival of PlayStation Move exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The new motion-sensing technology will be in retail stores across North America on Sunday, September 19 (some GameStops are preparing midnight launches, too). Offering the "most immersive and realistic gaming experience" yet, Move allows us to utilize a "full range of motion, as well as the opportunity to project the player's image into select games," and of course, it all includes high-definition quality. Said Jack Tretton, SCEA CEO:

"The launch of PlayStation Move is the latest in a long line of innovations over the past 15 years that demonstrate how the PlayStation® brand continues to push the videogame industry forward. We've spent a lot of time perfecting the motion control technology of PlayStation Move, and we are confident this is a benchmark in entertainment innovation that will change the way consumers interact with games."

Nearly 30 Move titles have been announced to date, and that includes EyePet , The Fight: Lights Out , Kung Fu Rider , Sports Champions , The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest , Time Crisis: Razing Storm , and Sorcery . Sony has also added Move compatibility to existing and future titles as well, including Killzone 3 , Heavy Rain , Resident Evil: Gold Edition , and SOCOM 4 .

Move is available at a range of different prices; the Move bundle – priced at $99.99 – features the Playstation Eye, one PlayStation Move controller, a copy of Sports Champions , and a Move game demo disc. If you don't yet own a PS3, there's the PS3 Sports Champions Move Bundle for $399, which features a 320GB PS3 Slim. If you've already got the PS3 and the Eye, you can nab the separate Move controller for $49.99 and the optional navigation controller for $29.99.

So, who's Moving?

I'll wait to Move. I'll be looking forward to some user feedback. Ben, will you be reviewing Move when it comes out?

I just unboxed mine. Got the bundle, an extra Move controller and the subcontroller. Can't wait to go home and beat my stepson's butt in table tennis.

I'm not sure how much content they added, but for some reason they're selling High Velocity Bowling on disc for $39.99 when its $9.99 on the PSN Store…

I feel like I really want this… but I'm not sure if my feelings are a little premature… I think I'll force myself to wait. I got a buddy that has a complex about buying everything for his PS3… and since he works for a tobacco company, he's got plenty of disposable income. I'll try his first.

And if he doesn't buy it, I'll tell him he should. Phrases like "a real Playstation fan would buy it" should work nicely.

I know how you feel. All day I have really wanted to go pick it up but I'm just not sure yet. I will buy one sooner or later but I'm a sucker for new gadgets.

Tiger Woods just transferred its Wii controls to the PS3 Move. If developers take that easy way out, we are still going to get canned Wii animations on the PS3 Move. You are going to get that with quickie Wii ports and Move patches.

Wait until next year for EA to develop Tiger Woods with Move in mind for better control and precision.

I thought it was going to be cheaper? some games require two move controllers, and if you are playing those two person, $200 ? and $30 for the navigation controller, that doesn't have any move technology in it? cmon… I wanted to get it, but I guess I'll pass until the price goes down.

None of the games require 2 move controllers. You can use 2 move controllers for a few games to get a better experience, but it's not required. And you can use a DS3 in place of the navigation controller for games that require the nav con. So the cost of admission is only $50 for those with the PS Eye and $100 for those without the PS Eye and also want a full retail game to try out as well. Or you could just by the move controller and PS Eye separate and pay $80.

For some reason I thought you needed two for archery.

No Sony has said to reduce cost on the consumer all laucnch titles can be played with one motion controller! And that is true!

I paid $180 for the bundle, an extra move controller, and a nav.

Could have lowered it to $150 w/o the Nav (haven't needed it yet).

2 controllers makes certain games like archary and gladitor duel more fun, but it isn't required.

If you are waiting for the price to go down, you may be waiting a really long time. How often do you see an official accessory drop in price?

I see sales pretty often. I added more DS3's to our inventory for 26.99 each. The Move controllers and bundles are on sale with gift cards after purchase at many retailers and the games have gift cards with purchase, as well. Right now, is a good time to Move.

Is the navigator controller necesary??

I haven´t been interested in Move, so I didn´t follow the news. But i kinda want it now.

No you can use a DS3, seems kind of awkward to me though.

I tried holding the DS3 in various fashions and it can be a very natural feeling. It just depends how you hold it.

I thought it would feel weird too, but thinking about it, sometimes I'll just hold it in one hand and make my guy run around while I'm smoking….

bigrailer19

Honestly its not awkward t me either. And for most games you wont even need it. mainly its for scrolling in the xmb and obviously games like KZ3, or Socom 4. But The navigation controller will obviously fill more comfortable in one hand than the DS3!

As I see with Kinect, in the case of Move I see Sony abandoning it within a 1 year/1 year 1/2.

I would get this but I don't have the funds at the moment and also I already have the PS Eye and well buying the navigator controller, the move controller, and the game all separate would be about the same as buying the bundle and that fact turns me off. Maybe I'm just being picky about that but whatever.

ETA: Actually, I can't find the stand alone price for Sports Champions but if it is more than 19.99 then buying everything separate would be more than the bundle and I don't need a second PS Eye. I definitely won't be picking this up until I can get it used or it comes down in price for the individual pieces.

Okay, I just realised that the bundle doesn't include a navigation controller, so I don't feel too screwed but I still will wait for used or a price drop. The whole move, kinect, wii thing doesn't interest me at the moment. Hopefully they bring some AAA titles out that will entice me.

You could use the dualshock as a navigation control

coverton341
coverton341

How does that work exactly? I would need two hands on the Dual shock leaving no hand for the move controller. At least it seems like it would work out that way.

bridgera
bridgera

You would have to try and 1 hand a Dualshock, but a lot of games don't even use the Nav. I haven't played all of the Sports Champions games yet, but I haven't even used my Nav yet.

Also, since Sports Champions is the bundle game, a lot of copies are going to sell, meaning you can probably pick it up on amazon in a month or two for $20.

I am going to take the wait and see approach with Move. The GT5 Blue PS3 Bundle is a no hesitation buy for me, if it ever comes to the US.

I will get this since i dont own a wii, and generally think it looks really cool.

But, im a student, and dont have money to burn so will wait a couple of months, GT5 is at the top of my list 😀

$100 for a new controller. I just don't find myself interested in Move as I have always disliked the Wii because of its controller. I don't mind innovation, but if its not affordable or reasonably priced…I'm not buying. That is why I am not buying a 3D TV.
