Dreamcast Reprint Program Portal Open For Business

This is more of a reminder than anything else, just because it's so freakin' cool.

We found out some time ago that Sega would be bringing Dreamcast classics to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace and now, the endeavor has been dubbed the Dreamcast Reprint Project , with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as targeted platforms. In fact, Sonic Adventure should release to both online services on September 29, and Crazy Taxi is en route as well. Now that they've opened a full portal site, perhaps the entire thing will really take off; it already includes several titles set for future re-release under the program. The Dreamcast's timing may have been bad but there are still hordes of fans out there, and they'll definitely appreciate the reemergence of Sega classics. When we heard PS1 classics would be hitting the PSN, we were all sorts of excited; as of now, we want to see what Sega will bring…we kindly ask for Shenmue , Skies of Arcadia , Soul Calibur , one of the NFL 2K games, and maybe Seaman . Any other requests?

We'll let you know when Sega officially unveils Dreamcast games headed for the PS3/360 in the future.

I remember when Crazy Taxi was a big hit. Now that kind of game play is thrown in as optional "side missions" in open world games.

Crazy Taxi could never just be thrown in another game as a side mission. Yea you have taxi sims, but none as ridiculous as CT.

The taxi missions in open world games couldn't hold a candle to Crazy Taxi. Come on who's with me on that? *waits patiently for someone to exclaim "Yea, Yea, Yea, Yea, Yeah!"*

Games have come along way since the simplistic, repetitive arcade game play of Crazy Taxi. I doubt you could release a game based on that alone anymore.

I never owned a Dreamcast. Any good RPG's for that system?

Oh did you mean any good RPGs only available on the DC?

NOPE.

Skies of Arcadia wasn't on PS2, it did get a special edition on Gamecube though.

Oh yeah, and Grandia II was better on DC versus the PS2 port.

Oops. You’re right. It was supposed to come out on the PS2 as well but was cancelled. Either way, I have the DC version and the GC version.

“Skies of Arcadia, released in Japan as Eternal Arcadia, is a console role-playing game developed by Overworks for the Dreamcast and published by Sega in 2000. Skies of Arcadia Legends, a port, was released for the GameCube in 2002. Legends was also in development for the PlayStation 2; however, it was canceled shortly before the GameCube release.” – Wikipedia

Great news, I love me some Dreamcast. I loved playing Code Veronica and I'll never forget driving to EB with my dad on 9/9/99 to pick up the system as giddy as a 5 year old at Disneyland.

I was never a fan, but I will say I played the HELL out of the three games I had for that system-

Soul Calibur
NFL 2K
Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Couldn't get into Arcadia and Shenmue, for some reason. And I was hardcore into PS1 RPGs at the time. Weird.

Forgot to mention my love for the System quickly left the building when the PS2 came out. The Dreamcast was like your favorite tasting gum, great for a short time.

There just weren't enough RPGs for the system to keep me interested and it turned into an Arcade-at-home box.

Sonic Adventure is out on XBLA today and PSN on the 21st.

Definitely the upcoming Crazy Taxi. Others include Skies Of Arcadia, Daytona U.S.A., Samba De Amigo with Move support and Sega GT.

I hope Sega will also release some games published by others. I didn't list a game like Power Stone or Soulcalibur since they were published by other companies like CapCom and Namco.

Hell ya it's a fun game but freaking hard as hell. Did you ever play the first MDK? It was for the PS1 and PC. The original isn't as "cartoony" as the sequel.

nah, i only played the sequel… the scientist guy was a lot of fun to play as… the atomic toaster, lol…

MDK 2 was one of BioWares' first games. And it still holds up today to some extent. Still have the first one but the second one disappeared somewhere over the years 🙁 The Wii is getting MDK 2 next year though.

Ya, the original MDK was made by Shiny (now no more). They were known for taking huge risks when developing new games and it eventually destroyed them and they were bought out.

I know 🙁 RIP Shiny. But thank you for giving us Earthworm Jim. But it's not all bad, the company that they are now is the one developing Front Mission: Evolved.

I'm with you 100%

Shenmue is Sega's greatest and STILL one of the most innovative and original…..and it's 10 years old. Says a lot.

One of my most cherished moments in gaming history, playing Shenmue one and a half day straight.

I borrowed Shenmue from a friend in 10th grade and beat it in 3 days. I played from the time I got home from school until I could barely see anymore. My friend has the second one for xbox and it makes me want to buy an old xbox to borrow it since his system is fried.

The Crazy Taxi games being release on PSN is nothing like the Dreamcast game seeing how the real world locations and music have been removed. This is where I say thank god that I held original copies…

Wait really? How do you know this?

As long as they give us the option to use custom soundtracks I'm fine with that but if thats not in… well it wouldn't be crazy taxi without the Offspring :/

I don't think these are original games running in a Dreamcast emulator. They look more like the HD remasterings of PS2 games. The Japanese site for Crazy taxi (for example) makes specific mention that the game now has HD graphics.

Nice though they are, they are simply retreads.

But they weren't really given the chance, or wide audience they deserved. Now more people can experience it, many for the first time, and see the magic!

Yeah I think 2k2 was the last on Dreamcast, maybe it was just 2k1. Anyhow I found a flawless copy of NFL2k at the goodwill for $1.99… talk about a…touchdown.

I'm giddy right now. I actually was just playing Sonic Adventure on my Dreamcast yesterday, and I have Shenmue II but no conversion disc. Thank you Sega, but PLEEEAAASE put Shenmue I and II up.

Ecco the Dolphin; I've wanted to see an HD remake or new game entirely for a long time, especially since that was one of the best looking games of its time.

also wouldn't mind seeing SA2:Battle and House of the Dead 1!

'Jet Set Radio', 'Armada' and 'Toy Commander' all jump to mind.

Buying these would mostly just be for the convenience, though, since I already own them all. I just don't want to hook my Dreamcast back up and play on well-worn discs.

Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Soul Calibur (it's already on XBLA), and Typing of the Dead.
