With the news that Duke Nukem Forever is actually coming, we wanted to know: is it still "Hail to the King, baby!" or has Duke lost his sex appeal?
Well, it's somewhere in between. The majority of gamers think it's pretty cool that Duke is back, and a healthy percentage are quite excited. However, about 40% of those polled are indifferent to the whole situation, so it seems that his 13-year absence has taken a bit of a toll. Firstly, there's a whole new generation of gamers who have never even heard of him. Secondly, there's a large number who are just sick and tired of FPSs (especially those that don't appear to bring anything new to the table). Thirdly, there's the skeptical group, comprised of people who aren't 100% convinced that Gearbox can deliver a top-notch, must-play product. But even so, it's actually a little surprising to see how many gamers are just tickled pink that Duke is back, and they really can't wait for his return. Well, you know, people are probably going to be split on this issue until we get more info and media, and that's plenty logical.
This week, we're wondering if you're a PlayStation Plus member. If not, are you planning to sign up some time soon? Or does it not interest you? Plus is the new premium service available to Network subscribers; the regular service is still free, but you can land a few great perks for the price of $17.99 for three months or $49.99 for a full year. What say you?
Related Game(s): Duke Nukem Forever
It's cheaper for me to buy things piecemeal at this point. When I have disposable income maybe I will sign up.
Your name has changed back? Am
I going crazy or was it worldswillend for the last few days?
I change at will, like chameleon. You be careful or I change you!
Only liked his 3rd person game where he gives Laura Croft a call on a street phone 😀
But other than that couldn't care less 'bout Duke's new game.

Someday I'll get ps+, no rush on my part.
Could have probably gotten into the LBP2 beta if I was a + member though
I'll see, the great thing is that this is not mandatory.
I guess I fall into that third category. I definitely have my reserves about Gearbox. I'd rather just have fond memories than have a dev screw up the franchise. Besides, did you see the truck driving level? It looked like a level out of Rogue Squadron.
I still don't know what to think of Duke coming back. My bro and I experienced great times way back in the day by lugging computers together to play co-op campaign mode. It was a hoot then, but man, that was a REAL long time ago.
I don't know what to think of PS Plus. Currently I'm looking at it because I've been itching to try out all the Warhark expansions which appear to be FREE right now for PSN PLUS users (do expansion packs go away when inactive?) I also want to give those Soldner X games a shot and they discounted for Plus members.
I think I could justify buying a 3 month Plus membership to obtain the immediate value of Warhawk expansions, plus I want to play that GoW demo(patience Temjin it'll come free in time)..
I dunno.
Some things will disappear from the plus section. I'm not sure about the time frame and what items fit the criteria for removal.
If it was certain that i'd save money, then i'd go for it…Well, maybe after getting a larger hd from my ps3, since i only have something between 5-15 gigs left on my 60 gig.
Yes, anything you get from Plus for FREE is only accessible as long as you as have plus. Anything you get from Plus that you BUY, things that are only discounted, you keep forever. So choose wisely on what you'd end up buying/obtaining =)
I think he was wondering how long something will sit in the plus section for download before they remove it, not how long you can use it. But I could be wrong.
Well, if that's what he's looking for too, then well, I'm pretty sure they're in there completely, or they are for me at least I think. It could possibly be from whenever you start getting PS+ everything from that point and on stay forever. Not sure.
The sample gameplay showed drab environments with plain flat grounds. Heck, MGS3 had uneven terrain so I can't understand why in this age they still do things like that. Gear needs to step up to make Duke a worthy purchase.
Plus isn't my thing for now. It's quite a good service but I imagine its most beneficial to frequent purchasers (of which I am not).
The only time i will sign up when PS Plus has the Betas i want
I would probably just not get it, in your case. There's no guarantee you'll get into the BETA's you want to get into, so it might not be worth the risk.
Besides, I'm not sure you'd be getting your money's worth if you only want it for that reason.
Might be best to keep your dough.
i got plus on the 4th of july i think. since getting it i have played some games that i probably wouldnt have tried if not given to me. mushroom wars is a game i never would have bought, though when i fired it up and stared playing it i loved it.
wipeout i always wanted to try but could never bring my self to spend the $20 on it. i knew it would be worth it but just never did.
my cousin game shared warhawk with me and then they gave out all the dlc when he didnt have it. i shared that back and we have the full game.
critter crunch is a game that i never would have gotten but after i played a little i went to my buddies house and MADE him try it. we were both hooked and play it online sometimes.
cuboid i have been playing on and off very fun game and i got that for cheap during the sales and plus discount. all the dlc came with plus also.
my timing on my qore subscription ran out in june luckly and now i still get to see those. they may not be the greatest thing ever on the ps3 but i do enjoy seeing some of the stuff on there.
that god of war demo is really cool.
this doesnt even include the ps1 games or the minis i havent played yet.
i have over another year of games comin my way. so far it aleady has been worth my $50
I don't have any thoughts on Duke Nukem.
I purchased a plus subscription when it first hit psn. I understand not everybody is interested in plus, but I like it so far.
I think some people expect too much from plus for what it costs.
No real comment on Duke Nukem, but I will follow it as I do with any game I might be interested in.
With PS Plus, once something catches my eye, I'll be in for sure.
Signed up first day for the year (+3 bonus months) and totally love it. I've gottnen so much free Mini's, psn games, ps1 classics, and DLC that it paid for itself long ago, and thankfully I get to look forward to more free and discounted items each 1 to 2 weeks =) so, gotta say it was definitely worth it.
Whoa. Results are pretty even right now: 49% who are not interested in psn-plus at all, and 51% who are members or plan to be.
I hope Duke Delivers, it might not be a D1P for me, but I would enjoy it for some nostalgia.
Anybody remember Shadow Warrior with Lo Wang? That was another great comedic FPS.

Shadow Warrior was great. So were the two novels if you're lucky enough to find them now. Would love to see Lo Wang make a comeback as well.
Best quote from the game, IMO, was when you were in the bathtubs with the naked chicks and Lo Wang asked: "You want to wash Wang? Or you want to watch Wang wash Wang?"

hahaha
Duke. Yeah, I'm interested, but it'll have to net at least an 8.5 for me to get it. I'm really quite torn on the whole deal.
As for PS+, I don't have my PS3 hooked up to the net, so no. If and when I do hook it up, I still sincerely doubt that I'll get it as I just don't see the appeal of it. Sure you get a whole bunch of free games and discounts and whatnot, but it doesn't feel right to me, so, it's a not interested.
Peace.
What doesn't feel right about it? And how could you not have your ps3 connected to the e-net D=
Rereading my post, I meant for me, not to me. It's just that I don't have really see myself purchasing a lot of content online, so… yeah.
As for not being hooked up, I don't have broadband, thinking about it though.
Peace.
Ah I see, well =) hurry up and get some broadband, haha, when you do we can hit up the PSN and play some cool games together
duke is most certainly still the king!
simply because his attitude, its so funny, not embarrassed by anything and cocky as hell!
thats why hes had such a effect on people, this industry and me.
i mean i very rarely play old games, in fact ive still almost all my old PS1 titles but never play them.
except crash obviously, thats almost a weekly ritual i can never get enough of the bandicoot!
i love duke so much last night i was scrummaging the draw in the computer room, saw my old disk for duke nukem 3D and nostalgia hit in, i just had to stop doing what i was doing, and install the game and half at it all over again!
i never go on a random playing spree like that.
Started playing through my copy again as well. It's even better after you install the EDuke32 mod.
I've played and finished Duke Nukem on my PC before, although I forget which one I played. Anyway, I'm happy Duke is making a come back, but I don't think this game will be first day buy for me. With that said, I still want to try DNF.
same dude
I got Qore when it came out, and I'll likely do the same with PS+, but money's tight at the moment so can't really afford to go that route right now.
Definitely psyched for Duke Nukem though, that was a household name when I was a kid…well, younger anyway.

Duke lost his crown years ago!
I'm happy Duke is coming back. Weather it's a good game or not is another subject.
I'm not the least bit interested in Plus. I'd have to spend a lot more money on discounted DLC just to feel like I broke even on the $49.99 up front price tag. And paying for temporary "free" games that Sony chooses doesn't interest me.
I think a lot of people here fall into the new generation who may have not heard of him.
Duke made such an impact with just one game, that he will forever be king.
Duke coming back is like an Elvis comeback for video games. Duke 3d is one of the greatest games ever made.
I never saw the poll though (ps3 browser) and didn't vote.
i had the duke games they were good for there time but now u can barely even remember him hes been gone way to long and i just dont think the new game will be able to combat the new wave of games this generation
No no no
Duke just wasn't really a console hero at all.
He was a v-game hero, but mainly with the PC crowd.
Others just followed him out of sheer curiosity for how explicit his games were (a lot of sex appeal/lots of women in his games, etc.)
Never cared for his games at all.
The voll is all the way at the bottom
I'm not interested in Duke Nukem or PS+ lol. I never played the original Duke Nukem games, though from watching some videos, it looks like I played several nearly identical games back in the day. The new game will have to have a lot more going for it than "It's been delayed for 15 years!" to pique my interest 🙂
As far as PS+, I very rarely buy anything from the PS store. The occasional DLC for a favorite game, that's about it. So it just doesn't offer me anything I'd find to be of value.
I will buy PSN+ when something or some things I want will be made free to download. Right now, I already have or don't want any of the perks they have currently.
I remember the 2D Duke Nukem game and the 3rd person one on the PS1. I had some pretty good times playing those, so I'm pretty stoked for DNF, just for reputation reasons.
And I just don't have the cash or constant high speed internet for PS+ right now.
Duke was the first shooter game i ever played waaay back in the day. and loved borderlands. I think this is what gearbox needs. something to raise the bar for themselves in terms of developing.
I am a PS+ user.. anyone who hasn't yet signed up for playstation + and are thinking about doing so, sign up it is and will always be worth your money. Just like frylock25 mentioned you might end up playing games you might not even considered..
Why bother with 3 months when you can get a full year? lol. It's cheaper in the long run to buy a full year of PlayStation Plus.
Not getting PSn+ just yet, maybe I will in the future im not desperate to get it now.
I hope Duke is a good game when it gets here 🙂 I loved Duke Nukem 3D. 🙂
Unless they MASSIVELY update it from its current form, DNF looks like a 2-3yo game to me so far.
Duke Nukem, if done right, will be lots of fun. A fun FPS with humor in the dialogue to add; when was the last time you played an actual FPS and not a wanna-be "real time" simulator?
THIS
DN was great because of his humor. His character. It's kind of why I found Beavis & Butthead the game funny and why Running With Scissors was just crazy! It's all about the main character. So it'll be a blast, a laid back game that'll probably have some challenges that'll be a surprise. Why not?
Already a PS+ yearlong member. With 3 free months for going with the 1yr, it only made sense. It's not a commitment! It's $50 for 1 whole year! I spend more than that on cigarettes every week and a half. Yea.
One immediate flaw that struck me with PS+ was the layout for members. Nothing seems inviting or… Welcoming. It's like the carnival jockeys just let you on a ride they turn their back to. I hope Sony will make the sections a bit more enthusiastic towards your membership. Login and see "Hey there buddy! Here are your perks! Enjoy!"
I'm looking forward to DNF
Damn, I just looked through my collections & found that I only have 1 DN game, Duke Nukem:Total Meltdown on my PS1.
So just how many other DN games are out there on consoles, and what are those titles & for what consoles???
As for PSN+, I'll wait a bit cause I'm more interested in using that $50 on a Move controller right now
Signed up for the full year on the first day. 🙂
