Okay, so maybe you don't have a Best Buy nearby. Or maybe you just don't ever go in there. But you might want to take a peek now, as some stores have a Gran Turismo 5 demo on display.
To give you an idea of what to expect – as if you needed any more encouragement to purchase the game when it arrives on November 2 – here are some gameplay videos for ya. The first is an Audi R8 on the Rome Circuit, which gives you an in-cockpit view of a relatively competent driver. There's a ton of detail inside the car as well as outside but that probably doesn't come as any huge shock.
The next video features one of our favorites, the Nissan GT-R at the Toscana racetrack. The first thing you'll notice is the load time, which seems pretty normal and kind of…well, invalidates the rumors of immensely bad load times (way to go there, Kotaku). This video gives you a first-person view and the natural environment of a regular road; feels more like a Sunday drive than a race. But the road is narrow, a lot of the turns are blind, and you definitely need to pay attention.
Lastly, we get a look at the Arcade Mode and the Mercedes SLS AMG at the infamous Nurburgring track. The driver has some early difficulty and uses multiple viewpoints before settling on the third-person camera, probably to see the damage done to the front of the vehicle. Nurburgring is a bear of a course, remember.
So, heading to Best Buy some time soon?

Best Racing Game Ever Made – Gran Turismo 5!
Indeed sir. The feature list alone on this title proves that very statement!!
I like Best Buy, there's one a few miles away with a massive game section. I don't go in often because games are cheaper online, but I'd still like to get a 3D TV demo at some point. It's always occupado.
Gt5 looks as sick as a set of blue donkey lips, hope you race fans are satisfied when it drops.
I'll check it out the next time I'm there.
Will check it out…
Watched the vids. Yeah, not the best drivers…. but still good to see some racing.
Oh god, the dusk-night transition on Toscana was epic!
I hope all tracks have time of day (and weather)

i'm going there first thing tomorrow in the morning… they open at 10am right? haha
54 days! wow less than 2 months now. *drool
I'll officially get excited comes October 2nd.
Somebody stood in Best Buy and filmed these things?
What am I saying? Of course they did.
The driver was pretty good.
I'll be there this weekend. Got one minutes away from me!
im sooooooooooooooooooo excited for this!
only thing that has disappointed me is the damage effects.
saw a pic of some wrecked cars and they honestly looked like there made out of plastic which had been under a 1000 degree flame for 10 minutes!
i thought cars when crashed are suppose to look like crumpled metal, not melted plastic!
Keep in mind, this is just another demo. If it looks like that in TGS 10, yeah, you might have a point.
I have a hunch this game will be rather good. Sorry for the hyperbole.
Any word on a PSN demo?
Not to knock the demo, but in the third video, from about 1:41 to 1:49 did anyone else notice the track not being fully loaded and then bam, there's trees and a wall?
who knows maybe they will fix the load times on the track before release… they still have like a month and a half!
LOL, the track and the wall both disappeared. Wonder if it was because he was changing the camera angle? I kind of hope so, otherwise it would be rather difficult to choose the correct line through that corner.
They say that there's a new damage model in the Best Buy demos…
I don't know, honestly… I think it will be a superb game, but after seeing that there has been no improvement in the way cars react when hitting the barriers has disturbed me somewhat.
If I hit the barriers at a specific angle I would expect to dent the barrier at least and spin the car around. From the inside cockpit views we get the same nudge up and down movement when hitting the barriers at what ever speed…
I would think that the damage – if set to full simulated damage that is – would be more severe, especially in the Nuremberg track where the tire wall is hit pretty hard??? The first Dirt at this rate seemed to have a better damage model from the little I have seen of the GT5 damage model.
I am also concerned about the damage model for F1 2010… both games seemed to have tried to show the least of this feature as possible before their respective releases because maybe… the damage models are just not that good… I am concerned.
The other issue is the "nasty" spark "particle emitter" object used when ever you touch something… I understand that if you scrape metal againts metal at speed… you are likely to get a shower of sparks… but if you are tapped every so often, and if another care rests against your car – traveling at pretty much the same speed – you would not emit sparks uncontrollably, simply because the car is resting against you… you may have a quick "impact" spark shower, but not a plume trailing behind you all the way… as both objects are traveling at similar speeds…
Of course if the other care damages your body work and it drops to the tarmac and starts to scrape along the rood surface… a plume of sparks should be emitted until the body work either drops off, or is ground away after a few laps etc…
These games won't be a day one purchase for me until I read the thorough reviews here at PSXeXtreme… it will be interesting to see how good the damage model actually is when the game releases…
I am a nut for detail, realism and authenticity… I think GT5 comes close to perfection… but it never reaches it in totality for me…

The one thing you need to keep in mind before making any conclusions is that we have to see a demo that showcases everything. We have seen a demo with the physics engine, one with scratches, one with deformation, etc. Just never all together.
When it comes to damage and the comparisons to Dirt and others we must remember that Dirt does not offer the features that GT does. There is only a fraction of the cars of the cars on track. GT will have 16 vehicles on track after all, with all of them racing on the most detailed virtual courses on a console.
I am not sure how you can justify being concerned over GT5's damage model when you should be more excited that it finally has one. I am not saying that due to it's premiere on the series it is automatically given a free pass, because I am not. However, I believe you should hold judgment until the game is released or in the least a statement showing that the damage model is indeed complete.
Are you currently playing any racing games? Have you in the past?
Thank you for your insight maxpontiac… however; I quote from my original post, "These games won't be a day one purchase for me until I read the thorough reviews here at PSXeXtreme… it will be interesting to see how good the damage model actually is when the game releases…"
Yes, I will wait before passing final judgement on how good and realistic the damage model is…. however, plumes of sparks that keep on generating when a car is resting against your car is uber unrealistic because there is not much grating taking place between the two car surfaces that are traveling at similar speed… different if you are dragging bodywork on the road, or slumping against a barrier at 200km/hr…
I had Dirt before I swapped it for another game. I swapped it because I felt Dirt wasn't good enough. Whilst Dirt2 and Dirt3 would probably be a worthwhile addition to the collection because the EGO engine has been improved that much.
I also swapped out Motor Storm. I didn't like the shadow map artifacts that were generated in the crash cam view. Seeing debris roll away from the crash with horrible chunky blocky shadows when the camera zoomed in… it looked pretty bad. They should have simply omitted the shadows all together if they can't be rendered properly and crisply…
I gave away Ridge Racer too… I didn't like the game even though it looked fantastic with its 1080p visuals.
The next racing game I would like to purchase is F1 2010, but I am concerned the damage model will be a let down… the best damage model I have seen to date is Burnout Paradise… but I have never owned that game, or played it extensively…

No problem. Thanks for discussing it in a detailed and respectful manner. Yes sir, I read that paragraph you quoted, but I was just trying to ease your concerns and perhaps explain a few things you might know. If you have never played a GT game, this is the one you should not miss. There is something for everyone.
Judging by your response, you seem to only play arcade style racing games. Not that that's a bad a thing, but Gran Turismo is much, much more. The tuning alone is a mini-game itself. I can remember spending weeks on end just shave off a second on my "Ring" time. It's one of the big three reasons I love GT over all others (others being driving and tracks). I have personally enjoyed all of those games, but they were all short lived. GT5 represents a game in where I will play for years and invest a 1000 hours in so in. Yeah, I know, but what can I say? Well other then Thank God for a cool wife.
It's staggering when one considers the mass amount of things happening on track at any given second. The physics, car tuning, weather, time of day, wind speed, tires, AI drivers, and of course you, are all taken into account. Keep in mind PD has a goal of 60 FPS for the game too.
It's why I believe GT will never be the best at more then a few things (outside of the car models and driving that is). It's best to view GT5 as a sum of parts, and not focus one individual issue. Doing so will ruin the users experience. I understand if damage is an issue to you, and hopefully PD will not let you down.
Anyways, I have heard that GT5's KART racing may have 32 vehicles on track! WOW!!

Thanks maxpontiac for your points… actually, I don't play arcade racers generally. I prefer simulations… I made purchasing errors with RRacer and MotoStorm… Dirt was ok, until I realised how better Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 were going to be. I have skipped Dirt 2 completely simply because Dirt3 will be where the EGO engine should be at in terms of its evolution.
On the PC i play a game called LiveForSpeed. Do a search and check the home page out, and the screenshots. Probably the racing game to play if you want something realistic.
However, i agree, that GT5 is the best racing game for consoles bar none.
To the persons who thumbed me down… how odd, I was merely stating a technical observation that I feel is unrealistically implemented in the game… that is all…

I guess you really got to be into racing games because there wasn't anything real spectacular in the videos. It will definitely be a hit, but a system seller? I'm not so sure. Maybe I need to see more.
I know I'm already getting this game so I'll just keep my sanity by avoiding Best Buy. Thanks for the videos, though.
Yea, ill be avoiding BestBuy until Nov. too.
I'll get it from ye'old Play.com… Cant believe I havnt preordered this yet!?!?
Only 2 months away now, cant wait.
But ive now started A-levels, and sadley dont think i'll have much time to play it :/
i'll have to give up sleep or somethin so i can fit this game in my life.
Can't wait to get my hands on this masterpiece.
I have never played GT to death like some as I have never actually concentrated my time and effort to any of the previous entries, but I will definitely pick up GT5. Game looks promising, though nothing about those videos have me excited…pretty dull if you ask me, but that is not an overall judgement of the game itself. Games looks great and can't wait to play a realistic driver again. Dirt 2 has lost my interest, so I need a new racer. Need for Speed and pretty much ever arcade racer doesn't keep my interest for to long…looking at you Split/Second (great rental though).
So I just picked up FFXIII and I love the story, but do all the other FF's have poor voice work and cheesy simple dialogue?…Never played the others while growing up so my interest in FF is not that high, but I do like this game.
