It's one of the most well-received racing series ever, and the ultra-speedy, super-stylish Wipeout franchise is making its next-gen debut on the PS3. Sony UK made the announcement today, along with the added news that this new installment would take advantage of the Sixaxis' motion sensing capabilities.
During an interview with Develop magazine in the UK, Liverpool internal development director, Clemens Wangerin, said the original Wipeout team is preparing a PS3 version. Furthermore, he made mention of the Sixaxis, as well as the possibility of "online multiplayer and downloadable content." We fans have been hoping for another Wipeout for quite some time, and although rumors have been flying regarding a PS3 version, this is the first official piece of evidence we've found.
Sony hasn't come clean about this new game just yet, but after being queried by IGN, they responded- "We'll be making a full announcement about Wipeout on the PS3 at some point in the future." We hope it'll be soon, and with it, at least a vague release date estimate and some more details concerning that "downloadable content." But either way, we're plenty happy for now. Wipeout is coming to the PS3!
