Rock Band 3 Lets Players Export RB2 Tracks For Free

Sure, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock hits first but there are plenty of loyal fans for both huge franchises.

Rock Band 3 is due out in October and a recent RockBandAide interview with Harmonix's John Drake should be of interest to ardent followers. Feel free to listen to the entire interview if you wish; the most important tidbit is that RB3 will allow you to export RB2 tracks for free. This was expected, as RB2 let you do this in regards to the original Rock Band but still, it's good info to have. Then there's something else to take from that talk: the now-standard price for extra songs via downloadable content is $1.99. However, Drake stated that any songs for Rock Band 3 's new Pro Mode will likely be more expensive than that, although he wouldn't provide a number. He admits that Harmonix has plenty more work to do on those tracks, and they don't intend to increase the cost of the regular tracks, which should remain at $2 apiece. If you aren't familiar with Pro Mode in RB3, let's just say that it'll require some definite dedication and patience.

The new Guitar Hero may invariably win the sales war but it's highly probable that Rock Band 3 will perform well on the charts.

*Pretends to care*… *Gets tired of it*

I was bored with it, but now that they have real chords I may have to try.

Side note: the only reason I got into RB at all is cause I tried it GameCrazy and I sucked at it, then I thought, I'm not gonna be made a fool of by some damned machine, not again!

Why would you have to pretend to care? Do you have a reputation among music game-loving friends to uphold?

No but I feel bad all that hard work of Ben's is going to this kind of garbage.

Ah, I see. Well there are still people that do care about these games, so don't feel obligated to pretend to. I relieve you of your duties.

I'm getting GH6 because quite frankly the GH mechanics have always worked better for me, and the setlist is better than RB3. But I might pick this up some day just cuz I can.

When you say the setlist is better, are you referring to the songs only included on the disc?

I only ask this because maybe you aren't aware of the extremely more vast selection of DLC on RB.

I am aware that Rock Band has expansive and amazing DLC, but my favorite ones (Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed) are on GH aswell now, plus I can import Smash Hits songs, which I love.

I have to say this as both Rock Band is one of my favorite games, and Avenged Sevenfold is one of my favorite bands. These are the songs Rock Band has.

Avenge Sevenfold has Afterlife, Almost Easy, Critical Acclaim, Bat Country, Scream, Seize the Day, Nightmare, and Beast and the Harlot on disc on RB3.

Disturbed has Down With the Sickness, Indestructible, Inside the Fire, Perfect Insanity, Stupify, The Game, Stricken, Meaning of Life, Asylum, The Animal, and Another Way to Die.

Guitar Hero:

Avenged Sevenfold has Bat Country, Beast and the Harlot, Afterlife, Almost Easy, and Scream.

Disturbed has Stricken, Indestructible, and Down with the Sickness.

So with GH, you are missing a couple good Avenged Sevenfold songs, but you're really missing out on Disturbed.

Good thing you bothered to post about it; I anxiously await an update on every game you won't be buying in the future.

If you're not interested in a game, don't read the article. You don't see me on a SSFIV article pronouncing that I won't be buying it because it's "trash" in which I have no interest and that Capcom shouldn't be making games unless they're what I want to play.

Rock Band is a PHENOMENALLY good game made by a developer who cares about doing things the right way.

@ Fane1024 – I don't like this game so I comment that I'm not buying it.

You don't like my comment so you comment that you don't like my comment.

What's the difference? Blow it out your ass. I've been giving my opinion here for many moons.

If you're thinking of getting this for the keyboard, try Synthesia, (it was originally called piano hero). You can plug in ANY music you want, and you use a full size keyboard with it … Check out this vid:

While I understand people are tired of music games (not me, I still play RB2 almost daily and eagerly await 3), I wish people wouldn't mindlessly insult a game they obviously don't know anything about. With any article I see about RB3, people are always like "really, another one?" or "doesn't matter, it's the same thing". RB3 adds the keyboard, plus Pro mode which I'm looking forward to. I don't like to brag, but honestly there hasn't been a single song on guitar, bass, or even vocals that I can't beat on expert. On drums I have a few songs that I can't beat, but they are the insane ones (mainly death metal).

With the introduction of pro mode, I get to play actual songs on a real guitar, while still enjoying the fun of RB. Now, I can't play guitar very well at all, but this will be one way for me to both learn more, and get better. Drums will be fun again for a challenge on even some of the easier songs, and with the cymbals actually being there, I'll actually be able to transfer my hand movements to a real drum set.

I'll admit I'm one of the people that bash music games. My biggest reason has been the unrealistic movements needed to perform on the instruments to the beat of the symbols on screen.

What you've said about pro mode and your ability to play the game on real instruments does make me not want to bash these games anymore but rather congratulate you on what clearly makes you happy.

LV, I appreciate your conciliatory tone, but I honestly don't understand what you mean by "unrealistic movements".

Playing guitar/bass in RB is roughly analagous to the real thing, though greatly simplified, and playing drums and singing (and likely keyboards) is almost identical. And in Pro Mode, all are identical.

I was referring to my limited experiences with GH and the limited information I have on the genre. I'll never forget the South Park episode lampooning GH nor old roommates that would "click" their guitars for hours while lying on a couch.

This is awesome. Thank you, Harmonix.

Honestly, I thought that after RB2, there really wasn't anywhere else they could go with the franchise. I was quite wrong.
