One of the most anticipated titles of 2010 is exactly one month away and now, you can chisel that date in stone.
Today, Namco Bandai has announced that Enslaved: Odyssey to the West has gone gold. It will release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 5, 2010; the production features "influences and contributions from top music and film industry talent" and focuses on a post-apocalyptic US where machines are now dominating what is left of the human race. 150 years in the future, war and destruction have razed the landscape and mysterious slave ships roam the land, capturing survivors and disappearing.
There are two main characters: the tech-savvy young woman, Trip, and the physically capable Monkey, and they'll need to combine their talents if they wish to survive. Players will control Monkey, who enters combat with a stick weapon (along with some ranged weapons) and is capable of running, leaping and – as we've seen in some gameplay – zipping around on a hoverboard-type thing. But Trip will be crucial in scouting the environment, offering intel on enemies, identifying optional routes, and upgrading Monkey's skills.
There are several pre-order incentives if you put a deposit on the game at participating retailers, and that includes some cool downloadable content. More DLC will be discussed down the road.

I hate being negative most of the time, but since we've only the video to go on, I'm not really all that impressed with how this game looks.
I'll wait for the review before really passing judgement though, it might surprise the hell out of me and Ninja Theory are a great studio.
This game just doesn't look great to me.
I find myself being negative of late as well. Trying not to be but all this attempt at appealing to a wider audience doesn't seem to be creating anything worthwhile lately. I can't see this as the next Uncharted ya know?
@WorldsEnd, I was gonna use your Odyssey to the East because the West is crap mantra, in there somewhere but didn't want to take the credit from ya.
But it's a very apt one to this current state of affairs within the gaming industry.
And no way is this the next Uncharted! Not a chance!
One of the most anticipated titles of 2010? Really? I haven't even given this game a second thought. And, it doesn't look that good to me either. Probably going to take a big old pass on this one.
couldn't agree more, shaping up to be a summer slump rental.
I'm interested based on some of the previewed thoughts I've read on this site. I'm definitely interested in a review, however.
Let's not forget that Castlevania comes out the same day and that looks absolutely epic!!! Plus I'll probably just get FIFA 11 over both of them because the online aspect. I just can't justify spending $60 on a 10-15hr experience right now. Got babies… I'll probably just gamefly these.

I just LOVE the statements they make.
"influences and contributions from top music and film industry talent"
Really? Were they the geniuses that came up with the names Trip and Monkey?
Don't forget Pigsy.
Monkey has a stick… a stick!
How many copies makes it Gold? 100,000?
I'd play a demo and I'm looking forward to Ben's review as always but I remain teh skeptical wun. I like creative characters like in Beyond Good and Evil, but this game seems to be based somewhat in reality and a monkey man (named Monkey) and a pigman (named Pigsy… oh dear. Kramer was right, the government HAS been experimenting with pigmen for years) doesn't bode well. I'll try to keep an open mind for the single reason that Ben seems excited about it. But if it came down to this and Castlevania, I'd go with Castlevania.
500,000? Thats what it is for record sales I believe, and 1 mil is Platinum.

In this case, gold is simply meaning that the game is done. They send out the game on a disc to start making the copies to be released. I don't know if it is true anymore, but before the games that "went gold" were called this because they were made on a gold disc (as in the bottom). Like PS1 games were black on the bottom, but the original "gold" copy would be gold on bottom.
I thought a game going gold just meant that it was completed and was ready to be written to disc. I know that a game only needs to sell 400,000 copies in the European regions to go platinum though.
Peace.
EDIT: jman beat me to it.

usually 1 milion
I don't want to post it here, but the forums are annoying me right now (I had to register there separately and I still can't post). I don't see any other way to let you know.
Duke Nukem Forever is officially confirmed.

All I have to say is HOLY F***ING S***! It's really coming.

Honestly I still won't believe it until I have the game in my hands. I won't believe it even when they confirm it goes gold. Not until a physical disc is in my hands and then I'll be sceptical until I am looking at the title screen and about to press start.
This game has been such a damn run around and vaporware for so long.
You 2, look at the link before you say anything. Completely different than what was posted last night. This is actual evidence and gameplay information, not an indirect slight possibility of information.
We've had demos and screenshots before, I still don't believe it.
What the hell are you talking about? I distinctly remember seeing running game code of this game multiple times. It is great news that this is going to actually come out but with the taunts and teases I just won't believe it till I myself am playing it.
EDIT: Thank you World you beat me to it. This game has even had release dates before. I'm not saying it is still just vaporware, and I would love to have it become a reality but seriously this game has been a bigger tease and laugh than a FFVII remake.

Apparently releases three days later over here. I know that the cool thing on this site seems to be to hate on this game, but I simply can't. Ninja Theory made one of the best 'early' PS3 exclusives, and with this game have collaborated with Andy Serkis for the mo-cap and Alex Garland (script writer for 28 Days Later, not that great an achievement, but still) helping with the script and production.
Not only that, but it seems to be a proper action adventure game, rather than having Hack 'n' Slash or TPS elements, which is just brilliant. I think that I've made up my mind on which game to get.
Peace.
Aw no love for the Rage virus? That movie was great.
Yeah, I didn't like it very much… Sorry.
I love the style of the game, or from what i've seen at least. But Castelevania catches my eye more. It just looks so fantastic. I'd take a script from Kojima over a script from Alex Garland any day.
hey guys guess what its real UPDATE over on gameinformer say DNF is real and its coming in 2011 its being worked on by Gearbox the makers of boarderlands.

Beat you to it lol.
lol ya i can't wait
I still don't believe it.
I'll wait for some reviews also. Pre-ordered Castlevania as well. Let's wait and see for Enslaved.
this and Vanquish are so gonna be bought… what else what else?????
Hmm, looks like we got hit by another Aaron Greenburg drive-by earlier in the day.
So many people are going to be so wrong about this game.
IDK, the game looks pretty good to me, the devs are using "journey to the west" as inspiration.
The characters names in that story are used in the game, Trip would be Tripitaka and monkey is the Monkey King even Pigsy is a name from the original story.
here is a link to information concerning the Chinese story.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_West#Main_characters
I think that using "Journey to the west" as a basis for the story of this game is a pretty good idea.
Heh, we used to have this real weird series called Monkey based on Journey to the West here in Australia. Unfortunately it was a bit before my time, but I have caught a few episodes.
Also, the original Dragonball was inspired by the same. Just more reasons to be interested in this game so far as I'm concerned.
Peace.
im tossing up between this or castlevania.
castlevania is looking like the game GOW3 should of been so im slightly leaning towards that, but than i loved heavenly sword so……..
god dam it why do developers have to release all there games in the same month?
we have had absolutely nothing all of June, July, August, September, and now everyone decides to release there game in October or November!
what, did i miss a law passing that states all video games are not allowed to release during June, July, August or september?
best game on the planet…no not Uncharted but Super Mario Brothers the real Uncharted….lol
Why is everyone being so negative about this game? Well…besides the fact that the names are lame, Monkey fights with a stick, and it's trying to BE like Uncharted? I think this game seems to be highly polished and coming from the studio that brought us Heavenly Sword I don't really see how this game can fail!
First of all, concerning the Uncharted look-a-like, besides the colorful world and landscapes shown in this game how is this in any way like Uncharted? Most people on this site chatter about how dry and washed-out most games look and now that a team is trying to paint something colorful it's compared to Uncharted's backdrop palette?
Now I personally can't say that I want this day one because I haven't seen enough gameplay to justify such reasoning. I do believe; however, that this game has the potential to be one of the best this year and I will stand by that when it releases.
Bad choice of release dates.. I mean, I really wanna play this.. and I'm hoping it will be good. But, If its between this game and Castlevania..
They should have at least thought this through.
I've waited all year for October.. Some of the best games hit from Oct – Feb. And this year, its gonna be awesome.
