Okay, so he wore a cowboy hat in "Legends of the Fall" and "Thelma and Louise." …is that enough to qualify him for this role?
Well, whatever. As much as we hate to admit it, the guy's a darn good actor, and he might fit in rather well, provided he does something to his voice. The big rumor today, courtesy of ShowbizSpy , is that Brad Pitt is in the driver's seat for the role of John Marsten in the upcoming film version of Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption . Various sources say Pitt "is the hot favorite" for the part right now; as one source said:
“This is an exciting project with a great character at the center of it. The idea is to make this in the style of an epic Western movie but with a few modern touches. Brad is perfect for the role and he is being given first refusal."
The game's story is very film-like in its style and presentation, and the plot would be pretty intense if done correctly on the big screen. Of course, Hollywood is notorious for screwing up movies based on games, so we're not exactly holding our breath…we're just trying to remain optimistic. You know, in retrospect, I should've just posted a pic of Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie…or both. I mean, that's Pitt's true legacy.
Related Game(s): Red Dead Redemption
I think mickey rourke would be a good choice for this role. He's about as rough as you get and his voice fits pretty well. Him or Bruce Willis. Maybe not… Just my 2cents i guess.
Viggo Mortensen. He made a pretty good cowboy in Hidalgo. But seriously, I don't want a Red Dead movie, the game wasn't really cohesive enough I think. Too much Mexico, not enough point making. They'd have to cut the guts of the movie in a huge way and that would just kill the spirit of the game.
Peace.
I'll go with Mortensen. He's got the right look and style, I think.
Yeah Vigo could do it! I like that! And Hidalgo was good!
I guess Brad Pitt is not a bad actor, but I can't really imagine him being John Marston, and no, I don't have any casting suggestion. I guess I'll wait and see if any new candidates will be select.
Maybe someone like Hugh Jackman?
I sure hope not.
While Pitt has been in several great films, the only exemplary performance I've seen him give was in '12 Monkeys.' Almost everywhere else he seems to be playing some variation of the neanderthal.
As suggested by Lawless, I believe Viggo Mortensen would be a far better choice for the role.
RDR has the best main character in any video game to date. You can't just throw up Pitt to play him on the big screen. They should do some serious talent hunting and give us someone fresh and accurate.
"Last kill. Heh heh heh."
They need a big name to carry the film. If they want it to succeed they gotta bring in a audience.
That's only what Hollywood believes. What ever happened to the good old days when a nobody by the name of Harrison Ford came on the scene and made a legend out of Indiana Jones?
The same can't be done for Marston ?
No im not saying the movie cant be good with a big name actor. It really can. But Brad Pitt would bring an audience is all im saying.
I like Brad but I think that guy "the butcher" from Gangs of New York, and There will be blood would be a perfect fit. I think his name is Daniel Day-Lewis.
He could do it. That guy is a bad-ass.
That's the best suggestion yet! I love it.
Rockstar gives us John Marston, Hollywood replaces him with Brad Pitt. I wonder why my PS3 gets about 500 times more use than my cable box.
Brad Pitt's a good actor, no doubt.
My pick for playing John Marsten would be Christian Bale…
Ugh why? Whats the deal about Bale, hes horrible…
i would prefer no red dead movie period.
those hollywood, southern californian bums would kill it… even though R* san diego made it
I don't have anything against Brad Pitt, but I'm not sure he's the right person to play John Marsten. He definitely doesn't do accents very well, not that it would matter much in this case.
I wonder if some movie directors' intended audiences are people who don't play games. If I like a game, I don't want to see someone's alternate take on the storyline.
Maybe some of these guys could fund the re-make of certain games we've been asking for instead.
They first off need to get Clint Eastwood to direct the movie, then pick up a lead character which I think Pitt would do great in. Without having a good film director especially for the time period the movie is doomed anyways.
Call up Eastwood asap!
Pity Clint isn't 40 years younger. Could have made Red Dead Dollars.
I thought Christian Bale or Sam Worthington would have played the role good. Don't know how Brad would be.
Is the movie actually confirmed or just a rumor?
Sam worthington?
Oh nuoooooo…he's a terrible actor.
Brad Pitt is the same in all his movies. The last good movie he made in my opinion was Fight Club.
I'm with the guy who said Daniel Day Lewis. He's a way better actor.
You are nuts, he made tons of good movies after Fight Club! And Fight Club was more Edward Norton's movie.
Go rent "Burn after Reading", "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" or "Snatch"… All after Fight Club and great movies
I can't recall the name of the movie, but Brad Pitt was pretty good in it, where he was ordered to go to Mexico to retrieve that rare pistol. So I'm sure he could do a western.
But since I haven't played RDR yet, I haven't got a clue to who would be a great fit for it.
But I nominate both Powers Booth, and Danny Trejo, to play "at least some body" in the upcoming RDR pic, since they're both well known bad-asses.
Name of the movie: The Mexican.
Also James gandolfini, Tony from the Sopranos, plays in that one. It is indeed a good movie.
They should use Josh Brolin
I reckon he'd actually nail it… although if you really wanted.. add george clooney as one of the other characters.
I'm not a big Brad pitt fan but if he can't pull that role off then who else would they get. It would be interesting to who they'll get to step up if the deal with brad doesn't go smooth.
I know I'm going to get a lot of heat for this, and personally I don't respect the guy… but I think Tom Cruise would be able to pull of a damn good John Marsten. If he had a look similar to his look in "The Last Samurai" and changed his voice a bit.
This is a waste of time and energy. Hollywood should leave the games alone, and gaming should stop producing games from film. There are infinitely better writers out there than what was produced in RDR.
I like brad pitt and vidgo mortensen both great actors they both could pull it off. I would of also said James Elliott but I think he's a little old for the part.
