New Plus Incentive Connected To PS Protection Plan

It's another incentive to be a member of PlayStation Plus, as Sony has decided to connect it to their earlier announced PlayStation Protection Plan.

You can read up on the full details over at Sony's Protection Plan website but here's the gist: if you're a Plus member, you can sign up for an extended two-year PS3 warranty for the standard price of a one-year ($45). If you aren't part of Plus, you have to pay $60, and you also can't use the PSN to sign up for that coverage. Non-Plus members still have to call the toll-free number during business hours to get the extended warranty; those special Plus subscribers need only log into the Network at any time of the day, pay their discounted fee, and that's it. Just remember, only consoles that are within the first one-year limited warranty period are eligible for the extension plans; both plans kick in after that original one-year period expires. All warranties basically cover the same things, including shipping and repair charges. There are plenty of perks to being a Plus member already; this is just another one and considering the annoyance caused by a dead system (really, is there anything quite so frustrating?), you might want to consider the PlayStation Protection Plan.

What, you don't like $15 discounts? You don't like other discounts, free games, and early access to demos and stuff? Come on. Sure you do.

Not the greatest idea ever expressed. The interior of the PS3 isn't really user serviceable. Sure there are similarities with PCs, but the system is not designed to be opened and services by untrained people. The majority of people would not be better off opening the system.

PS+ and Sony's Protection Plan are perfect for someone like me. I got my first PS3 during Christmas of last year and I don't take advantage of purchasing stuff of PSN. So if I become a PS+ member all the games that they offer for free, or at a discounted price, are new to me. Plus, $45 dollars for a 2 year extended warranty seems pretty sweet to me.

I still have a few months to pick up both the PS+ membership and the extended warranty and not lose out on anything. RockNRolla.

Can I get a true recommendation here. I have a phatty so I can't get the warranty. I don't have any interest in PSone games, mini's, or early demo's. I rent movies from the PSN and buy games and also stuff in Home sometimes. I bought the full games for Wipeout HD and Brain Challenge off the PSN. I may buy more games maybe. I'm on the fence for PSPlus. Is it worth it for somebody like me?
