So a package showed up yesterday that really didn't look as if it held a game. As it turns out, it was Power A's new controller, the Power A Pro Elite Wireless Controller.
As you can see – and feel free to check more pics at Gizmodo – it's basically the Xbox 360 controller design for a PlayStation 3 owner. Maybe you prefer the 360's gamepad but would rather play your games on the PS3; if so, this is the perfect accessory for you. It features the motion control of the Sixaxis and Dual Shock 3, dual rumble, glowing buttons (in case you get lost in the dark…?) and custom L2/R2 buttons. It also has a specially padded set of grips, which extend further downwards than the standard PS3 controller. Just bear in mind that Power A didn't bring across the triggers from the 360 controller; we still have the standard shoulder buttons with which the PlayStation crowd has been intimately familiar. As that Gizmodo analysis says, they do feel a little "mushy," but they work just fine. Personally, I've always thought the PS controller is the best available, even though I don't really have any complaints concerning the 360 gamepad. Well, I do think the face buttons aren't anywhere near as sensitive as they are on the PS3 controller.
The Pro Elite Wireless Controller is pretty darn comfortable and retails for $49.99; you'll be able to find it at retailers starting next month. If for some reason you'd rather have the wired version, the Pro EX, that will go for only $19.99.
I always like my thumbs next to each other. No hate on the 360 controller, but my DS3 is as comfy as I need.
Glowing buttons is stinking cool though.
Well this is different. I prefer Sony's gamepad. 10+ years of the Dualshock, and I don't want to play with anything else.
I guess if I wanted to use a 360 controller, I would buy a 360.
I been using it for 13 year the best controller ever.
I have no desire to hold a 360 controller, not because im a fan boy but it is to big in my hands. It feels fat and clunky,. While compared to the DS3 its a nightmare of a controller in my opinion. I know some people like em' but I just can't stand em'.
I might had looked into this when I first got my PS3 but now it doesn't matter. I've gotten use to the analogs where they are at plus I don't have a 360 anymore so I only have to stick with one style.
Plus the controller looks a little cheap as with all 3rd party controllers.
Overall, I prefer the DS3 to the 360 controllers. So getting this doesn't interest me. Also, I haven't had good luck with third party hardware/controllers as it is.
Same here. No 3rd party accessory has ever been as good as the original. Thats my experience at least

I saw this in a magazine MONTHS ago.
We didn't have it in our hands "months ago."
Burn.
I'm not trying to like be a downer or anything, I was just saying that I saw it a long time ago so I kinda assumed it was already out.
lol
For trying not to be a downer, you really came across as a total downer.
Does it register a button push ten minutes after you hit it too? I hope it at least doesn't work on batteries. I'd rather have another DS3.
The DS3 is just that perfect design that you can keep improving if you want to but isn't necessary.
An Xbox 360 controller for my PS3? Why not ask if I want to use the Atari 2600 Joystick, and black and white Tv in my garage too? Im not a fanboy but this is like putting a Ford engine in a Chevy Camaro.
I'll pass on this, but its great for all those migrating to the PS3.
New Xbox controllers are MUCH better than the old monstrosities, but I'm still not a fan. I'm sure somebody will like these though.
I just never understood having the analogs at different levels. That's like having half the keyboard on the desk and the other half in my lap.
I love the dualshock style with it's Kung Fu grip.
Anybody notice that developers are always working with heavily used controllers?
I recently bought a new DS3 and found that certain joystick movements in games are impossible with a new controller. The intricacies of Heavy Rain and tiptoeing around in Nier couldn't be done. So I turned on my tired old controller and it was way easier. Just a tip in case your new controllers don't seem to be hacking it. Gotta break em in.
exactly. it saves u money 2
I always thought the 360 controller notvonly looked, but also felt pregnant too(not near as much as my Jaguar, Saturn, or Dreamcast controllers though).
Anyways, my comparison…..
360 controller = frumpy old maid
PS3 controller = sexy young thang
in reality amigo, its the other way around…
dualshocks older
🙂
im still waiting on that Nyko Raven controller.
its gunna be the first third party controller ive ever bought…
btw, don't send ur console to sony 4 repair, and don't be so quick to go buy a new controller when yours breaks… i fixed both myself! for $30! i just saved $120!
Booze,
She may be older, but she's still getting sexier by the day.
Just remember that there's more than a few 40something's out there that will STILL give any 18 year old a great run for her money.
Well, at least this controller doesn't have the HORRIBLE D-pad the 360 has
I remember seeing reviews for this and people were happy with the comfort level but I did see a couple complaints about responsiveness. I'll see if I can find those but it's all relative to the user, I think.
The only thing i want from the 360 controller is the softness of the triggers. The PS3 R2 and L2 buttons arent the best for long term button pushing on a game.
Interesting idea, not horrible…but I don't want one.
I would like to see what Sony would come up with, in making some improvements to their controller. It has been around for a really long time, and there's always room for improvement in the tech world.
to me the ps3 controller is fine. i know people who have big hands always say the ps3 controller is to small. its like the bk commercial with McDonalds hamburgers being to small and bk hamburgers being just right. i have big hands i find ps3 controller fine with me. 360 controller fits just as good. its just a controller, people shouldn't nip pick at the little things. i play the games to enjoy the games not to worry about how the controller fits.
Yuck, the ugly 360 design now for the PS3.
the only way ill ever buy a controller like this is if it's officially licensed by Sony.
gnaw, I still won't buy it.
I hate the 360 controller, I hate that there analog stick ain't next to the other. It just doesn't feel right in your hand.
Sony's DS3 is the perfect controller, It feels perfect in your hand and I'll won't have a different controller until the DS4, which most likely won't come until the PS4… GT6!
i have 2 buddies that have had controllers like this for months. i have pics of it and it is not the same controller. the one they have has red ps lettering instead of the home. its also shapped more like the xbox controllers.

Best Buy has their brand, RocketFish, controller that was a 360 controller for PS3. I bought one when I first got my PS3 but returned it a few days later cause it would shut off on me and didn't respond that well.
All I have to say is that I do not like the 360 controller. But I do need a new controller. I've got three Sixaxis' and they're all varying degrees of broken… I'm going to say it is the result of overuse and leave it at that.
Peace.
I never play with xbox controllers so I'd say my ds3 is just fine.
I have one complaint about the DS3 and it's not the triggers (which have honestly never bothered me) or the symmetric analog sticks (which I actually prefer). It's a very simple complaint and it would be so easy to fix I can't understand why they don't. Why do the tops of the analog sticks have to be convex instead of concave? I want a nice little depression to rest my thumb in. It drives me nuts when I'm holding down one of the sticks and my thumb starts to slip. Sometimes it is just not convenient to let go and recenter your thumb (say you're running from something in the game) and the stick ends up sliding further and further up my finger until I'm steering with the joint of my thumb or something. That's dumb.
Even though I didn't know what two of your words meant I knew what you were talking about. To be honest this problem RARELY happens to me. It's because the top of the analogs have a rough surface to keep your fat thumb in place. Unless you wore it out over the years or you get sweaty thumbs it'll slip. To be honest after readind your comments of a few ppl in PSX i starred at my Dualshock 3. It's design is simply … perfect I mean it's just perfect. ( Im typing using my Dualshock 3 on my Ps3 ) .
Theres a reason why it's been around since Ps1. I would never change my controller. I know it since Ps1 was out. It's just perfect in its design & everything, nothing needs to change! Thumbs up if you agree?
Kevadu, I have the same concern. Why Sony is sticking with that is beyond me. In this day and age where control is of the essence you'd think they'd have reevaluated those thumbsticks. It doesn't have to be as deep as the 360's, but damn, FLAT would be better.
The 360 controller is comfortable in the hands. But for me nothing's better than the duelshock 3….with those L2 R2 trigger caps on!
SWEET! now i can kiss goodbye those stupid cramps the DS3 controller gives me after using my 360 one for so long.
it feels so small and awkwardly shaped in comparison to the 360s.
the 360s controller rests in your hand and is shaped to fit your hand, unlike the DS3 with straight edges pushing out the center of your hand causing it to cramp.
That's weird, I never had cramps with the DS3. And I play fighting games. Really intense fighting games. Alot. And my hands are HUGE.
you switch between the 2 after a while?
if i use my ps3 controller i dont normally get a cramp, its uncomfortable but no cramps.
i only get a cramp when i play my 360 for say 2 hours a day for a week straight than go back to the ps3.
its because of the extended use i get use to the nice tapered shape of the 360s controller.
My hands cramp up using the 360 controller. there's a reason the DS has largely remained unchanged all these years.
I own the DreamGEAR Shadow controller which blends the dualshock controller feel with 360's analog stick layout. Concave L2/R2 buttons, awesome controller, go with that rather than this ugly thing.
Hey, this is actually good for tournaments of a game (fighting games, usually) where the game is on more than one platform, but the tourney organisers can only use PS3s.
Repulsive, i'll never undestand why the 360 has and analogue button where the D-Pad should be, just to be different i suppose. I only buy official controllers anyway, more trustworthy.
I'm fine with my Lightning Dual Shock 3 thank you.
I'd rather not, I really, really dislike the xbox 360 controller, since it's friggin' heavy and clunky and I can never get used to the button layout, while the dualshock contoller has this nice light feel, everything is beautifully symmetric and my thumbs can reach everything, yes even the L and R 1 and 2 buttons o.O, I kid, unless I turn the controller around of course…
Anyways, nothing for me and my Asian hands.
