Business is business. If you want your game to sell, you had best let people know about it.
Namco Bandai has a big game coming up in October; it's Ninja Theory's Enslaved: Odyssey to the West , and everyone is expecting something mighty special. And whether it lands those high review scores or not, Namco will still throw its full weight behind an ad/marketing campaign. According to MCV , the publisher "will dedicate its biggest marketing" spending to Enslaved ; it'll receive even more help than last year's Tekken 6 . They'll be advertising on TV and they're targeting both print and online publications, too. Said Namco PR and marketing manager, Lee Kirton:
"Enslaved really is the cream of British talent uniting for an epic video gaming experience. Ninja Theory is a truly brilliant studio that has done a remarkable job creating a totally believable story in this futuristic post-apocalyptic world.
We really want this title to stand out amongst the crowd as not just a brilliant gaming experience, but also as one of the greatest stories told within an interactive universe – if it doesn’t win awards then I’m going to eat my joypad."
Just remember that we're talking about a UK source and a UK studio; all this advertising might be geared toward Europe, so perhaps American gamers won't see as much of it. But hey, at least Namco is pushing it and it's good to see they're confident. As for that last bit about guaranteed awards…well now, we'll just have to wait and see; the competition is more than a little stiff this year, you know…

The cool kids?
Maybe the drool kids?
I know a girl that insists on calling a controller a paddle. It makes me want to punch her in the face. "A PADDLE WAS FOR ATARI 2600!" I scream…but to no avail.
People who play PC, or their gamepad, since that's the options they set them as in the options menu. Or people who really like…LIKE….their vibrating controllers…
Well, I seem to be the only one who thinks it looks interesting LOL. I dunno, been looking for a nice action/adventure game and this seems to fit the bill.
Might even pre-order it, so there! 🙂
No, you're not the only one Jack, it's a d1p for me 😉
I find it quite a dilemma. Ever since the trash that was Borderlands I've written off Unreal Engine FPS. But then you have Batman, which is by far the best use of the engine I've ever seen.
Now NT, the guys who are basically crybabies, are using Unreal for a TPS. Will these guys get it right? Or are we in for more piss poor controls and frustrating hit detection?
I was excited for Borderlands, i thought the idea was pretty cool but the execution was pretty bad. The game wasn't that good in general but i do know what you mean.
I can't wait for the day that either Unreal goes through some reformation where its able to produce games with little to know glitches and prettier graphics. Sick of most games looking like oiled up plastic.
Let's also bear in mind that Heavenly Sword used formulaic enemies and single character action, I'm thinking the AI in this game might blow chunks.
LOL Borderland I almost forget about that crap , and psxtreme do two reviews for it! , because a bunch of people was mad with the low score xD.
I actually think this game looks alot of fun. It has a few features which i am sick of seeing in modern stories like the post-apocalyliptic world, but this one doesn't seem so terrible dark for once. Th eart style looks lovely and fresh.
Their seems to be a good sense of teamwork between the to characters but it does not look as tedious as RE5, is there a demo for this yet, i would like to play it.
At first i thought it was an adventure/platofrming game, but then the combat came in. I don't know about you lot but i'm becoming bored of gun games, they seem to be the onl answer nowadays, i'd like and adventure/platforming game which doesn't involve guns.
The best thing you are going to find is Ratchet and Clank, which still has guns, but they are awesome guns so its ok. Or not, idk. I just really love R&C.
See thats why i don't like Ratchet and Clank it made the platforming games shooters, then Jak II followed. i just did not find them fun. even if they were good games.
Ultimadream,
I wholeheartedly agree. How often do we see guns in great games action adventure titles? More than too often I think. I actually think Enslaved will offer a wave of fresh air for the industry. I just wish NT would put out more games. Loved Heavenly Sword btw and Enslaved seems to be shaping up to be another interesting title.
I definitely have my eyes on this one for games releasing later this year. The only thing that trips (no pun intended) me out is his weapon. A staff, really? Come on!
So far this game look so good, the visual is good, voice acting sounds good too.
Gameplay looks good, could be one of the year's best.

I'm predicting Alpha Protocol all over again. So far into development you can't abandon it, even though you probably should. So they advertise the hell out of it with cool commercials and then once it's flopped at least you sold some copies to unsuspecting fools. 'sigh' good to get that off my chest 😀
yeah I was surprised to see Alpha Protocol commercials at all but there they were.
I really like the look of this game, and I do want to get it. But then, Castlevania dropping on the same day and GT5 and LBP2 just around the corner makes it very difficult to decide which multiplat to get. I wish that there were fewer great games so I could distribute my time better.
Onto the topic at hand. I have never seen a game get a real marketing campaign here in Australia. I mean, I've seen a few TV ads for PS3 and Wii games and posters galore for all types of games (only in games and department stores though). I want to see a blitz. I want to see magazine space and an ad at every break. I want more. it's not going to happen any time soon though. Aus. is too small a portion of the market for companies to bother with. Now, I must go see who the Prime Minister is, the parrot, or the budgie smuggler. See you at the next update.
Peace.
Castlevania will slaughter it.
Dunno world,
Castlevania certainly looks interesting, but I doubt that GOW3 owners will even be slightly interested in it.
The expectations of a 3D Castlevania game are rather high, let's see if they'll be met.

Kojima=good, and I'm tired of the whiners. If you like GOW gameplay why would you piss on a game that uses it well?
Because there is no guarantee that CV will use it well. When it releases we will find out for sure, and I'm sure that more peope will get excited. But for me personally, playing through the four iterations of GoW over a two month period, I need a good long break from that style of play.
Peace.
most GoW3 fans i know of love the castelvania games quite a bit, just not the 3d versions as much
Ro kurorai,
Why would GOW3 owners not be even slightly interested in it? I own GOW3 and I think this 3D Castlevania game has quite a bit of potential. Now I doubt the game will match the quality of GOW3 because 1.)Santa Monica perfected Kratos and his world to the utmost degree 2.)They were only able to pull that off because they were working solely on the PS3 console.
However, I'm interested to see how a 3D Castlevania game turns out. It seems interesting to me because the main character actually has a soul. No offense Kratos! The game also seems to revolve around an interesting story. Plus, did you not check out that trailer that hit the net! They revealed seemingly, like the whole game, enemy-wise!
Well, whatever the case, there are two good-lookin' multiplats about to be released and I'm pretty excited to be a gamer!
exactly. Otherwise its like saying "Fans of FPS1 won't care for FPS2 cause it's about shooting stuff in first person"
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I mean the monetary aspect of course ^^
If you have enough money to afford 5 games this fall then sure, go ahead. But if you're like me and don't sh** money you think twice before getting a game that's similar to a stellar title you already own 😉
I was not questioning the game's quality, sorry if it sounded that way.

I don't have enough money lying around to buy every game I want when they come out anymore, but I think this looks very good and will try to buy it when it slightly goes down in price. I don't understand why the majority of you guys are saying how generic it looks…
Yeah chedison,
It doesn't look generic to me. Don't see why this game is getting so much hate. It might not be a D1P as of right this moment but I'm definitely interested in it. Babysitting might suck but hopefully the way they implement it doesn't dissolve the fun factor from the gameplay.
im really looking forward to this, if its anything like heavenly sword ill be raving on about it for years to come!
i just hope it sells well so i dont have to put up with NT b*tching because the game did not sell well!
please, NT, please give us a heavenly sword 2!!!!!!!!!!!
they won't give us HS2, as Sony owns the IP 😛
That way NT wouldn't make money as they cannot go multi-plat 😉
they would make pleanty money they seem to forget the ps3 had such a small install base as it has now!
plus, they sold 2+ million units on it so i find it extremely hard to believe they did not make a decent profit off it.
