Castlevania Launch Date Emerges From The Shadows

The fall is typically the most competitive time of year for the game industry, and it's almost inevitable that several big games will go head-to-head on the same dates.

Today, Konami announced the finalized launch date for the hotly anticipated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow ; it'll be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 5. Developed by Mercury Steam with the help of Kojima Productions, the latest iteration in this long-running series "introduces a fresh and radical re-imagining" of the series. You will play as Gabriel Belmont (voiced by Robert Carlyle), a member of the legendary vampire-hunting Belmont clan, and you must track down the Lords of Shadow to unite the pieces of a relic called "The God Mask." If you can manage this, you will "purify the world" and have the power to bring the dead back to life. Featuring over 50 stages, over 45 different enemies, 40 possible combo attacks, and mammoth bosses, this one ought to be a blast. You'll also be tested in the platforming and puzzle-solving categories as well. The catch? It has to compete with Ninja Theory's Enslaved: Odyssey to the West , which releases on the very same day . Which one will you spring for? …how's about both?

We definitely want to play both. But if you really only plan to nab one, we'll be sure to let you know which is the better buy, in our opinion.

From what Ive seen on both ganes, this appeals to me more than Enslaved. Although Robert Carlyle has such a strong accent I wonder why they chose to hve him as the main voice actor. Still it's hardly a deal breaker I guess

I wasn't too excited about this game at first, but I'm looking forward to it more and more as time goes on. I'm still not too convinced about Enslaved, mostly because I hate babysitting AIs, but I'm not going to dismiss it just for that fact. I'm looking forward to the reviews for both.

Actually I was looking forward to buy this game until producer David Cox bad mouthed Uncharted 2, and now I'm not so sure.

Don't be stupid dude. If you're looking forward to the game, don't let some idiots comments be the reason you don't purchase and enjoy the game.
I get tired of hearing from the moral brigade when it comes to gaming. 'I won't buy an Activision game because someone did this' or ' I'm not buying a game because so and so said that'.
A good game is still a good game no matter who says what about something. Buy the game on it's own merits and enjoy it. Criticise after you've played it if it's not your thing.
Some of the most successful people in the word are real A-holes but they're more times than not successful for a reason.

It wouldn't be reason enough for me not to support a game but you don't have to call him stupid for having an opinion.

Let the man vote with his wallet. He should be allowed to speak without people calling him names.

I wasn't calling him stupid, I was asking him not to 'be' stupid. I respect his opinion. My opinion however is that I disagree with it and elaborated on why I disagreed.
But I most certainly wasn't calling him stupid. The only name calling I did was calling him 'dude'. Hope that didn't offend him.
If my opinion offended anyone in how it was presented, then I'll apologise.

LOL by asking some one not to be stupid is implying they are stupid to begin with.

Telling someone not to act in a stupid manner doesn't infer that they, themselves, are stupid. Just wanted to point that out.

Also, you're all stupid. :p

I'd like to support this game because it has the Kojima Seal of Approval but won't because i won't be buying anymore games that are gimped by the Xbox.

Actually this gonna be one of the best multi , the 360 version comes on 2 dvd's so they didn't care too much about dvd limitations.

gotta wonder when GAMERS will stop using this gimped by 360 excuse for every multiplatform game released. blame the devs, not the system itself. It may be true in some cases but to pass up a game simply because its not exclusive to your system of choice robs you of some great games.

Yup aroo , losing RDR on the PS3 because the 360 got the best version would be a huge mistake on gaming.

We'll stop using it when MS puts a blue ray player in their console.

The devs can only do so much with the tools their given. You should know that.

so please explain why games like bayonetta, red dead redemption, and mafia 2 look better on the 360. See the fault lies with the company and not because of the tools they were given with dvd vs blu ray.

I understand you have an never ending hate for the 360 but can you truly blame it for somewhat inferior to down right ugly ports to the ps3 in some cases? Is the 360 somehow interfering with the performance on the ps3? no? then stop blaming the other system when its the devs fault for not utilizing the ps3.

Give it a rest. I know you like to argue for the sake of arguing but its getting old. Multiplats will only be as good as the weakest link. Thats a fact.

We know how much you like facts though, so i suppose the point is moot.

U Mad!? get over it. you don't like what i say to you cuz i will bust your chops when ignorance comes out of you mouth, which is pretty often at times from you. But we are entitled to our opinions, no matter how fanboyish yours may seem at times

whats old is your constant bashing of anything related to 360, stop acting like the fanboy that all people here at this site know you are and use some common sense for a change. We get, you hate 360, they stole your wallet or something, who knows.

You're the same kind of fanboy that would claim Gears series is a must have if the game was exclusive to ps3 in its current state, and would find some reason to hate uncharted 2 had it been exclusive to 360 in its current state. I see right thru you.

But we all know how much you like to claim something as fact but can't prove it right? you couldn't even answer the simple question about the 3 games i mentioned.

Hahaha ok guy. What ever you say. I learned my lesson last time. It's pointless arguing with you because it never ends. It's like a child continuing to ask "why" after the question has been answered. So no thanks.

what did you answer? you're like the kid that claims he wins just because he says so. You 'claim' it every time you don't have anything left to add thats meaningful or when someone calls you out on the crap you say when you have no solid way of backing it up. It was a simple question that somehow upset you and you failed to answer it.

I've only played one castlevania game before and it wasn't really that great to me, just not into side scrolling.

However I'm still way more interested in this than enslaved. I have high expectations for enslaved, I highly expect it to bomb.

I love the side scrollers, but this new attempt at a 3D one should be pretty good.

@kraygen…WorldsEnd just beat me to it!
I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this one's a break from the side scrolling and more down the lines of God of War action genre. That's how it looked to me. Had it been side scrolling I'd be interested in it, but I'm not into button mashing games like GoW, so won't be getting this one. Can still appreciate that it looks like a good title though. Just not my cuppa tea!

Oh yeah, I know this one isn't side scrolling I just meant that's why I didn't like the last one.

Also that even tho I didn't like the last one, I'm still more interested in this new castlevania than I am interested in enslaved.

As a lifelong Castlevania fan, if this pulls down decent reviews I'll get it. I'm really into the God of War style of action right now and this is perfect timing.

And, really? Castlevania versus Enslaved: Waste of time in the West? Castlevania for sure. The only thing Enslaved has going is another sexy redhead. That Monkey dude is annoying and dumb as Megan Fox. There is gonna be a ton of AI babysitting, and I bet you are going to spend more than a few hours doing bothersome time trials where you have to save the other character before something falls on them or scrapes their elbow or something.

If Enslaved has good reviews I'll still only get it on the cheap, and I don't see the sales doing as well as Heavenly Sword.

This looks kind of cool, but at the same time, it just reeks of "been there, done that". I dunno, I'll keep an eye on it and probably pick it up next year if it turns out to be really good.

Seriously there is no catch. Castlevania will take one large dump all over Enslaved, sales wise that is. Quality wise no one knows yet

Oxvial, how do you know it's going to be on two discs. As far as the xbox goes, i never heard of a game other than role-playing having multiple discs for the xbox.
Well, i hope this game and Quantum Theory turns out to be good.

Sup Marcus!.

I already read about that on a lot of sites because I'm a huge Castlevania fan , just google castlevania lord of darkness 2 dvds , the funny thing it's one article of Destructoid – Jim Sterling reaction the dude got all MAD on Kojima xD!

also check on the Castlevania wikia.

Media Blu-ray Disc (PlayStation 3), 2 DVD's (X-Box 360)

If Enslaved sells more on one system than Heavenly Sword then I'll be completely surprised. Red head chick with a sword vs. simple grunt with a whacking stick…hmmm I'll take a piece-a-that red head please!

Oh, damn. How do I choose? I really liked Heavenly Sword, and Enslaved sounds like a good concept (to me), but this is Castlevania, with the involvement of Kojima, thus implying it will be another 'Hideous' game. I'm probably only going to have time to play one before GT5 drops, so it's quite a conundrum. Much review checking will ensue as a result of this. I must have the better of the two.
Peace.

There's only one game I'm buying at release in October and it isn't either of these.

Hint: there's a "3" in the title.
