Crysis 2 Strikes New Release Date

We knew Crysis 2 wouldn't make it this year (the team decided the game needed a "better release window") but we still had an ugly "TBA" for a release date.

Now, we have the date nailed down. Announced at the game's Twitter page , the highly anticipated sequel will launch on March 22, 2011 in North America and on March 25 in Europe. This allows the FPS to avoid competition with holiday heavy hitters like Call of Duty: Black Ops , Halo: Reach and Medal of Honor . The sequel puts players inside that nifty nanosuit again but this time, the suit has a few upgrades that really turns you into a true-blue super-soldier. Speed boosts, camo, physical enhancements, and more, plus the fact that instead of the natural jungle environments from the original, we get to blast away in New York City. Also, let's not forget that console gamers never got the first Crysis ; this sequel will be available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in addition to the PC. If you want a good look at the gameplay, there's a new trailer up on the PSN. It looks great but Crytek's claims about it being the "best-looking game ever" seem to be falling a little short in our eyes.

But anyway, it should be a fantastic shooter and it's probably a good thing that it distanced itself from the big boys in October and November.

So even Crytek isn't so confident in this eh?

Confidence has nothing to do with it, with the other 1083560134 games that get released in the fall it just makes more business sense to wait until the calendar gets a little empty.

It's a completely understandable business decision, but when you've got developers who speak from an egomaniacal point of view and claim that it's going to be the best looking console game of all time, genius level AI, etc. etc. etc., one can't help but laugh at them for running away and hiding from the competition.

Bandit has a point man, Crytek just felt it would be necessary to release the game further away from Black Ops, because with all CoD games, after not even a month, you get bored and wonder what you thought was so cool at first about the game. Plus they shouldn't worry about confidence, Crysis 2 is shaping up epically.

True, unless you only have an xbox and with no other games play on Live for months.

godslim, we get that you like CoD. To each his own. But i think the point being driven was that after a while, the action gets stale. I enjoyed MW1 and MW2 for quite a while as well, but after I got to level 70, the "flashbang" of interest wore off for me and wound up selling my copy. IMO regularly playing Uncharted 2, RDR and TWC keeps my interest in each of them (well, least for TWC..)

On topic– graphically, they can boast having the best. But i still want to see how gameplay and longetivity (2nd and successive playthroughs rewards, MP balance etc) before i decide on this.

It's just another game placed in a saturated genre that is FPS… It will probably sell well because for some reason, people love repetition. Don't people know Hell is repetition? I thought staying away from hell was a good thing, lol. A lot less boring as well xD

meh I still don't think it will look as good as they claim. Since I never played the first one, I'm not too excited about this one either.

Well, Crysis 1 wasn't the greatest story-driven game in the world, it was a FPS with benchmark most amazing graphx ever seen, and still yet to be seen imo, but then again that's only if you had the PC to play it on the ultra settings it's mean to be played on. And Crysis 2 just seems to be shaping up to be another lack-story game all about graphics so…who knows, maybe they'll actually put some thought into the story this time instead of aliens vs humans..

@ LegendaryWolfeh: That's really not what I'm getting from this launch, actually. Remember, Crytek bought Free Radical Design, before they went with EA. So, they should actually have better support with their storyline.

And while they may be pushing the envelope of what the consoles can do, I can already tell you it's not going to be anywhere near the jump up from what people were used to, and when Crysis 1 launched. They've already admitted to cutting things from the game that the consoles wouldn't be able to handle. (And before anyone says it, consoles couldn't do Crysis 1, and was one of the greatest looking games ever…) Unfortunately, I think in the process of bringing it to console, they turned away from allot of the innovation they used to create Crysis 1.

However, the plot may actually benefit from this too, so who knows, really. Time will tell. I still have my doubts, sadly.

Kraygen, it doesn't look as good as they claim. The PC version I'm sure will look as good as they claim but as for the console versions? It's just another multiplat.

You know, while I actually enjoyed the hell out of Killzone 2, I gotta say, Crysis/Warhead were pretty effin stunning too, for allot of the same reasons.

I think people also forget that Crytek bought Free Radical Design, prior to their deal with EA. So, Crysis 2 may well have a revamped storyline also. Say what you will about Haze, but Timesplitters and Second Sight were pretty well-known and received.

I honestly don't want to miss either game lol. It's one of those situations where, I'm not gonna choose one or the other heh. I'm gonna get them both.

I was going to get this but after i watched the most recent trailer on PSN its obvious this game was massively over hyped and is not going to be the PS3 Exclusive Killer people have been making it out to be. It looks like most multiplatform games. While this releases I'll be busy playing Killzone 3 so i say meh…

Hmmmmm…..while moving it to the first quarter of next year means it's not competing with MoH or CoD:BO, it will be up against KZ3, SOCOM4, Brink, Bulletstorm and Ghost Recon: FS. I know, for me, SOCOM4 is my first choice, and KZ3 my second, and then probably Crysis 2 my third. Hope they do well, but from my angle they've actually given it more competition for my $$, not less.

So it looks like we were all correct, just another multiplat claiming it will look better than an exclusive. Okay, throw graphics out the window and move onto story… not much there? Check. Fun? eeeeehhhh, not enough to take my money away from KZ3. Go back to PC where you belong.

I mostly enjoyed the first FarCry and you have to give credit to Crytek for their beautiful engines, but Crysis does't really capture my attention.

I have to agree with Jawknee; Killzone 3 will be the next FPS I'll be buying (once I actually finish Killzone 2, that is).

it avoids the big hitters this year, but it puts itself right in KZ3s firing line.
i have no doubt in hell that this will be 100 times better, im quite confident it will be even better than RAGE!
but, well, going up against one of the ps3s most popular series is not exactly a good idea!
its like releasing a NFS game alongside GT5, whos going to win?
