Sledgehammer Confirms Call Of Duty 8, An “Adventure FPS”

Some time ago, we heard rumors about a mystery Call of Duty that wasn't in development at either Infinity Ward or Treyarch. It was apparently in development at Activision-owned Sledgehammer Games, although no official details existed at the time.

However, Sledgehammer has finally decided to make an announcement…of sorts. According to Industry Gamers , the studio has confirmed they are cranking away on Call of Duty 8 , "a game that will take the stories of actual servicemen and turn them into playable situations." The info comes from a few recent Twitter updates by studio co-founder Glen Schofield. It certainly sounds like it could be very authentic and very intriguing:

"Working w/ military guys- their stories will blow you away. Names/locations will change but some situations going in the game- real stuff!"

Schofield also mentioned that music composition for their new project would start soon: "Picking composers 4 the game. Fun stuff, think we found a great fit. Audio will be better than what we did in Dead Space." That's right; some of these guys at Sledgehammer are the same who helped bring you EA's stellar survival/horror title, which went over extremely well with critics and gamers alike. They're dubbing Call of Duty 8 an "adventure FPS," in that it's a spin-off from the standard series.

So yeah, that's three CoDs currently in development: Call of Duty: Black Ops by Treyarch and set for November 9, the third Modern Warfare by Infinity Ward and slated for some time next year (not yet official), and now, Call of Duty 8 . Well, maybe the latter will be something very fresh, and that's worth our attention.

At this rate, anti-vision will be running out of numbers for it's milked=dud franchises when I turn 100.

And that will only take me 42 more years to get there, so…..

let's say around the 1st week of November, 2052.

Wow, Call Of Duty 8.
And an adventure fps? Does this mean we'll be getting actual 'new' online game-modes, or will it still be death-match, team death-match, ground war, etc?
And what exactly is an 'adventure fps' supposed to be? In my mind, I am imagining a Crysis style of game, with the open-world environment.
Hm.. If COD 8 allows me to shoot at trees, like Crysis does, then I'll buy the special edition. 😀

Wouldn't this be Call of Duty 9? World at War was number 5, Modern Warfare 2 was number 6, and if Black Ops will be number 7 with Modern Warfare 3 following it, then wouldn't this be number 9? Or is this coming out before Modern Warfare 3?
