If you're not planning on picking up the next Game Informer, you'll miss out on a big Batman: Arkham City unveiling.
But don't worry, because the info has been steadily leaking onto the Internet ; we've got both story and gameplay info. In terms of story, various notes of interest include the fact that Black Gate Prison and Arkham Asylum are unfit to hold inmates, Hugo Strange is in charge of Arkham City, Two-Face is plotting to execute Catwoman to gain some respect, and besides the poison in the Joker's system, there may be something else wrong with him… As for the gameplay:
Sounds good to us. The other element we know about is Rocksteady's toning down of the Detective Mode; they believe it was "overpowered" in Arkham Asylum . Do you agree? Although we have to wait a while – Batman: Arkham City won't be ready until later next year – we're still convinced we'll get another awesome game. Keep the good stuff and add more…nothin' wrong with that.

I want to drive the Batmobile.
Not if they use the same game engine, you'll only be terribly disappointed.
I guess you could drive it if there was a mission to fish the batmobile out of the river…, but since it seems like it will pick up where AA left off then the batmobile might not appear
kraygen is right. It'll drive like the turd vehicles in Borderlands.
Wow, apparently people would rather drive the batmobile when it is awful, than to drive it when its good.
Hmmm, strange. I would love to drive the batmobile in a game that does it right, but I don't see the unreal engine giving me that.
The Unreal game itself has vehicles in some of the game modes, and I don't think the handling of them are too bad, so why should it be so impossible to make it right also in the batman game?
The Borderlands car handling is a joke, a bigger joke than the car handling in Saints Row 2, but that could be more due to poor design than the 3D engine…
(Edit: Not to indicate that I think SR2 is using Unreal, it's not)

It is hard enough to control Batman himself without catching on objects. The batmobile would not work well. I loved the first game though.
I've always been a huge Batman fan, and I loved the places the first game pulled it's inspirations from (not to mention how very, very polished the game was), so I have extremely high hopes for the sequel.
What little we know is already enough to get me excited and likely keep me excited until the game releases.
Yes, as vicious54 stated, if you're actually in Gotham City this time around, you should be able to drive the Batmobile around.
can't wait for this game but i am not happy with the toning down of the detective mode. cause if i want to play the game with that on isn't it my right to do so. will just have to see what happens with that
exactly, it wasnt like you cant press a button to turn it off when you're playing.
Thanks Ben!!
i am hoping for the batmobile also but it doesnt seem like it will happen. i guess i just dont want to get my expectations up and if it shows up then i can be suprised and happy lol. this is sounding like its will be just as good as the first one and better.
Arkham Asylum was a great game. Definitely a detective game with the Batman skin simply thrown right over it. Detective mode was heavily used in Arkham Asylum but when you realized that it was, for the most part, mandated you didn't mind.
If hidden passage ways are still around for Arkham City, I'm not sure how they'll get around NOT using detective mode.
Game sounds awesome, looking forward to Arkham City soon.
Arkham asylum was the best batman game ever made by a long shot. However compared to other games it was just mediocre.
If they want Arkham city to really hit one outta the park they need to build their own game engine. Sadly tho, they're probly still using the unreal engine and we'll be set to have another bulky gorilla batman stomping around instead of a sleek and silent nightmare.
I honestly didn't care how bulky Batman looked. For a guy that can lift 800+ lbs, his build is as "realistic" as you could possibly get.
I wasn't actually referring to the way he looked. He looked fine, he looked like Batman. I meant he handled like all unreal 3 engine characters feel when you play.
They all stomp around, they feel like stiff bulks that have no flexibility. They get caught on every little thing sticking out, their is no give to it. If a character touches a wall or something, the walk in place until you back them up and go around.
I find it very interesting that people on here will bash the unreal engine all the time until you talk about arkham asylum. Arkham asylum is without a doubt one of the best unreal engine games, but it steal has some of the flaws that every game using that engine has.
Hm, I guess opinions vary on how clunky it felt to control Batman. Controlling Batman felt fine for me. I haven't played a lot of games that used the unreal engine, or at least I don't know if I have lol. So for me it was smooth.
the first release of the game was one of the best games iv ever played on ps3 i think ill pick this one on day 1
that reminds me to play the game again because of one miss-able trophy for the platinum i didnt catch which is the party thing
iv completed everything except for this one
That trophy is easy just beat everyone up before you go to joker. The one I need is get 24 medals on combat challenges.
I think it might be alot of fun swinging, gliding, climbing from building to building. Should be a great game again.
What about bat mobile and bat jet and bat bike?
I just got LYOD! I'm extremely sad right now! Although I knew this will happen cause two of my friends had the same with the 60GB PS3, so I have the money to buy a new PS3. Should I buy one now or wait?!
Another thing, can I use the HDD of my dead PS3 and put it in a new PS3 slim?? Plz help.
Anyway I loved B:AA and I'm looking forward for the 2nd one, I even think of buying a PS3 slim bundle with the dark knight bluray movie in it. 🙂
O_o you'll have to have had your PS3 HDD info backed up on an seperate HDD or pc. Other wise once you have your new PS3 and try putting your old HDD in the new system it will ask for you to format which will erase the HDD.
On topic though, the more I read about AC the more I want to play. But kind of only if its not to linear in game play, I want to explore the city Just a little.
even if you back up your files, copy protected files wont transfer to different ps3s. the choice is pretty much up to you though. if you want backwards compatibility and card readers get yours repaired. if not get a new one. if you get yours repaired, its gonna cost you $150 but they'll probably send you a refurb system so your old hdd will still need to be reformatted. what i do is i always keep a memory stick pro duo in my card reader so i can copy gamesaves. backing up your hard drive takes way too long and sometimes wont even restore correctly.
if you want to buy a new one, i would wait because they're supposed to be coming out with new skus and bundles like the move bundle. but if you arent caught up with playing all the ps3s great games, then its gonna seem like a pretty long wait.
Yeah, even if you have your PS3 repaired and get back THE SAME PS3, you'll have to reformat the HDD when you re-insert it. And your Backup file, if you have one, won't necessarily Restore everything either.
In short, you're probably f***ed.
If you can stand to wait, I'd see whether a price drop or bundle gets announced at GGC or TGS rather than buying a new system immediately. Plus, there are usually sales around the holidays.
i didnt think detective mode was overpowered. i pretty much use it to track enemy movements and plan my approach. it wouldve been a pain in the @$$ if they limit it especially when they were blowing up the gargoyles and you cant get a good view of the area. since they are modifying it, i wouldnt mind them doing it like how the solid eye was in mgs4. add a battery life on it and let you pick up extra batteries to lengthen duration.
kinda off topic but when i try to go on this website with my ps3 browser, i get a javascript error. it just stays on the site and gives me continuous javascript errors. anyone else have the same problem?
I do. Before you go on press triangle, go to tools and put javascript on.Its slower but you have to wait to finished loading.
Wait I think is javascript off. Try both, btw when its off is faster but I cant leave comments, reply, or thumbs people so I leave it on.
Nothing worse than a great detective beat-em-up game being fractured by the occasional driving around level. Just give us more Batman up close and personal. That's what was great about the first one.
*Exactly*. It's very, very rare that a game is able to handle "diversions" like that. A game should stay focused on it's formula, I say.
d1p for me 🙂 The last one was great and I see little to no reason for this one to be worse
Very excited about Batman:AC
I think I did pretty well in Batman:AA and I'm very much looking forward to play AC, but hopefully we get to play it some time next year.
2 things they should change over AA is 1 the enemy variety and 2 the amount of gadgets.
the enemies in AA were so similar, they really did not pose a threat or a change in gameplay it was block there attacks than counter when possible from level 1 all the way too the end!
a game needs to introduce new enemies, that change up the gameplay, make me rethink my tactics, this stops the game from getting repetitive and boring.
than theres the gadgets, what batman is famous for.
batman without his gadgets is like spider man without his web ability!
AA really did not have enough gadgets to change up the gameplay, it had lots of abilities but they were so similar to each other.
this again made the game repetetive, every level was almost the same.
if i was not beating up enemies by counter attacking, i was using my detective vision to solve a puzzle.
a little variety would be nice guys!
not create 2 levels and cut and paste for the whole bloody game!
they were good fun levels no doubt, but i can only play the same crap so many times before i get bored and loose interest!
Cant wait for this game. Arkham Asylum was brilliant.
The storyline was great. The voice acting sublime. Loved kicking a load of inmates a$$ as fighting was spot on.
Bosses were challenging without being repetitive!! All in all a sturdy game.
If they can add more without losing what was great before we could be looking at another game of the year!!
