Sometimes, it helps if people would simply do their research before spreading rumors. But then again, rumor-mongering is certainly a big draw on the Internet, so it's understandable.
There was a recent hullabaloo concerning some so-called evidence that Naughty Dog was looking for game developers with Xbox 360 experience. This of course sparked dozens of presumptuous forum posts and headlines across the web, all with the purpose of asking, "OMG, will Uncharted 3 be on the 360?!" Well, first of all, Naughty Dog has gone on record many times, saying the 360 simply isn't capable of handling the franchise and if they were to do it, Uncharted would "have to be a very different game." Secondly, the fact of the matter is that Naughty Dog is a second-party designer…there's a difference between that and third-party. This is why the developer's reply to this blow-up was as follows :
"Where is this rumor? Haven’t seen it. We’re also wholly-owned by SCEA since 2001, working on SCE consoles throughout our history."
This much we've known for a while. This much, most gamers should've known. They should also know that titles like Resistance and Ratchet & Clank can't go anywhere without Sony's say-so; hence, Insomniac won't suddenly bring both franchises to the 360 or other platforms, despite their recent announement of a multiplatform project. Simple stuff like this ought to be common knowledge…right?
While it is true SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) does and has done PC development (EverQuest 1 & 2, Free Realms, and yet-to-be-released The Agency, etc), but, of course, PC market isn't a direct competitor of the Playstation brand, nor is it comparable in terms of customer base (as of 2007, SOE's total subscriber base for ALL their games was 680,000, not sure what it is now). So, in other words, multiplatform development is possible, such as the Agency being both on PC and PS3 which seems to be the case, but I think you'd agree that it would be outside the realm of possibility that Sony would develop anything for the 360.
I'll agree that it's essentially impossible that Sony would take any of their highly acclaimed, top selling exclusives and bring them to another platform.
A less popular, less well known title? An MMORPG? There is an extremely slim sliver of a chance that Sony Online might, if the planets align and the world unites under one government, possibly consider thinking about the concept of putting a piece of software on the 360.
How's that?
Lol! I do agree!
I thought it was common knowledge that Naughty Dog was a first party studio owned by Sony… Uncharted will be released on the 360 the same day Halo is released on the PS3, in other words never…
Halo is on BluRay you know…
::flees::
Yeah, I forgot about that. And when the Uncharted movie comes out 360 owners will be able to play Uncharted on the 360, the DVD version of course not Blu-Ray. LOL
Its impossible for ND to go multiplatform and why? When Sony bought the company they bought a 100% stake in the company, that compared to MSFT how only bought a controlling stake in Bungie rather than the company outright.
I think Bungie had the option to divest themselves of Microsoft, they wanted out and Microsoft felt that they could take the Halo IP to another developer who had a better attitude.
Naughty Dog is more of a wholly owned subsidiary than anything else, I don't think that they have the option to do that, not that Sony would want them to. Unlike Microsoft, Sony appears to value their developers.
So desperate
Just buy a ps3 and level up to true next-gen already.
LOL, you just told the entire Xbox nation to "Man up."
Naughty Dog 🙂
if naughty dog went multiplat. uncharted3 would really suck compared to uncharted 2. it would have crappy graphics and way shorter story line. But i do not think they will do that,
yes, yes we have all heard the cock and bull story of ps3 games not being possible on the 360.
well may i point you to crysis 2?
well, there goes that PR BS!
same as the 360 cant do 3D again i point you to crysis 2.
shame it wont be out till next year, i saw red and almost literally exploded when i saw that!
figures the one game out of hundreds releasing this year, the only one that i was really interested for is the only one that gets delayed!
it could not be a game i dont give a sh*t about like vanquish, or MoH, or COD black ops.
no, it had to be the sequel, to one of the best games ever released!
buy me a Ferrari, than have it spontaneously combust why dont ya!
though common sense would tell you its not possiable, though common sense is something people are seriously lacking these days!
how can ND work on a 360 game when there owned by sony?
yea, sony are going to let one of their most famous titles go on the competitors machine.
i remember reading a article a few weeks ago saying mario might end up on the ps3 or 360, again yea right ninty are going to let one of their most famous titles on another platform!
its like Ferrari saying here is all our tech were using in our F1 cars today, enjoy and hopefully you can put it to better use than what we did!
Dude, you need to learn to relax more. Perhaps some fresh air and sunshine?
its hard to relax when your running around like a headless chook trying to get things done!
plus theres no such thing as sunshine here, for the last 3 weeks its been raining cats and dogs!
surprised we have not had a flood, or a blackout yet!
Forget the quality dropoff of going to the 360, if ND somehow magically went multiplat with UC3 it would feel like a scorching hot dagger straight through the heart. That would be worse then anakin slicing windu's hand off and joining the emperor. I mean, I have a special satisfaction knowing that we in the PS3 family have a game that's freakin off the charts (no pun intended) and none of those other consoles have it.
Don't fear. It's not going to happen. Sony owns Naughty Dog. Read the article again.
Ben, they are first-party devs.
Insomniac and Sucker Punch are second-party devs.
I've been calling for Sony to buy Insomniac for years before Price took them multiplat; so Sony better buy Sucker Punch before it, too, goes multiplat — without Infamous, of course, because Sony owns that franchise.
Hell, Insomniac has been a second-party dev since its Disruptor days on the PS1, as has Sucker Punch since Sly 1 on the PS2; so I don't know why Sony didn't buy them both when it bought Naughty Dog.
Perhaps ND were willing to be acquired and Insomniac and others are not?
Oh, I know that. But money speaks. Hence the transition to multiplat.
ND will never sell out to other platforms even if they weren't owned by Sony. They see the success of the PS3 and are smack happy with their success with their games.
